Discussion "Official Hindevado Seal": People using AI enhancement on their phone cameras is making it harder to discern authenticity

Thumbnail

Anyone else seen with this?

For example in this image:

"Official Hindevado Seal"
"Race mother plage: through costom-made reatle rooms in percun mode!"
", or your enemies will oever die"
"MADE BH JAPAN"

And numerous other garbage text.

I mostly think this copy is legit but after I requested this person to take a real photo without enhancement, they blocked me - go figure.

I have also seen Ai image enhancement do strange things to the "GAME BOY ADVANCE" embossing on GBA cartridges, making legit cartridges look off to people like us who know how to spot fakes.

How can we combat this?

These are the most convincing repros I’ve seen. Case and label look good but the board is a no go. I’ve only seen hg and ss so far but I’m sure b/w and sequels are coming if the shells look/are real.

Such an interesting fake.

The colour is significantly more accurate than the common fakes, as is the inclusion of a save battery, it even has letter stamps. They have a flat base on the screw, but it's hexagonal not circular.

On the rear they've copied not only the Nintendo text, but the squares and even the contacts on the right.

But they have done it in such a weird way, the text is in the wrong orientation, the position of things is all over the shop, it's just such an uncannily weird fake with so much attention to detail, yet super glaring errors.

Discussion How Many Ways Is This Fake?

Thumbnail

Tldr: I already know that this is fake (the cartridge not being translucent and the micro SD slot being the big giveaways for me) but what other big indicators are there on this that it's fake?

Long version: I bought this on eBay. It was listed as both 'Used' and 'Mint'. It only had a picture of the front, while also in a DS game case. I'm currently trying to get my money back, and I know the seller is going to make me to pay for shipping if I return it. If I escalate it for being 'counterfeit', I'd like to be able to point out as many ways as possible that this is not an official cartridge. This, if you guys could point out as many ways that this is clearly a reproduction and not official, I'd be insanely grateful. I already know that it's fake since it isn't translucent, and of course due to the whole micro SD thing, but the more information I have the better. Thank you.

Discussion Why does this sub only respond to Pokémon games?

I ask for response on a ps2 game 5 days ago, zero response from the people that verify/run this sub. Yet Pokémon games can seemingly get a response in 1 hour of posting. I swear its been like this for years and just seems so weirdly biased. You cant tell me these posts are not being ignored when you have 5 days of responses to Pokémon games yet all others nothing, im in no way trying to be rude but if this is the case then there should be another sub for ALL games.

Anything and everything can be faked. Claiming otherwise is a shitty excuse, that has been debunked again and again over many years.

Counterfeiters will produce anything to make a quick buck. Never assume that they wouldn’t because a game is worth less than five bucks.

It’s also one of the reasons why the valuation of a title has no bearing whatsoever on a verification.

I'm not really wondering whether or not this is real or fake, as Pokemon Green was never released in english. I'm here, even though this is an obviously fake cartridge, because I can not find anything like it on the internet. Searching english version recreations of Pokemon Green- nothing looks like mine. This was actually my first pokemon game, and it was given to me as a gift, having been bought from a yard sale.
When played, the game has the sprites as they are in the japanese version of Pokemon Green.
Does anyone know anything about this cartridge?

note: I'm not NF, but if you are, that'd be kinda cool.

I thought the community might like these two fake ones from my childhood. I'm positive I was around 6-8 years old (1994-96) when my father got the Yoshi one. They still work btw. Also, anybody knows if I should handle them carefully, as in can they release some toxic stuff? Thanks

Discussion Posting Guidance Question?

Probably most appropriate for mods to answer. I made a post yesterday where I had posted two pictures of a ds game, but the back of the game had a sticker covering most of it. I wanted to update the post with a new image after I had removed the sticker, but I couldn’t find how to add a photo to a post. I tried to quickly google it as well and only saw that you can’t add photos to an already posted post. So next I made the mistake of deleting the post to make a new one with the new photo without the sticker next. Only after reading the sub rules did I see the rule saying you should add additional photos in a comment and that I can’t make a new post of the same game I already posted. I don’t want to get banned and I’m not trying to circumvent anything or gain priority over other people’s posts, so I wanted to ask if I would be breaking the sub’s rules by making another post after I deleted my own post already- without realizing I didn’t need to in order to add another photo. Any input is appreciated.

What is this in the back of my N64 cart? It appears to be a thin strip of metal covered by electrical tape. The game is StarCraft 64 if that makes any difference. Thank you!

Seems like it has all the signs of being real to me but the listing price is decently lower then what emerald goes for and they have two listings at this lowish price. One of the two listings has it inside of those clear plastic cases that the copies usually come in.

Discussion Why do these fake cartridges get so much traction on ebay?

Thumbnail

I'm sure there are a lot of points to consider. Like perhaps the majority of the views are people like me. Just noticing a fake and stopping to take a look. But I mean people are bidding real money? Does all the views and bids kinda trick the less informed individuals to join? Like surely the person who gets this realizes it isn't genuine.

And also. It could be fake bids hoping to get an actual person to try and snipe it. Idk I just see a lot of these on ebay and it frustrates me.

Discussion Question regarding pcb Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

I checked on the website if this cartridge is legit but I‘m totally not sure. Personally, I would say it is real. The last five digits are correct for this game and I don‘t see anything off besides the first two letters DB. Why? Because on the website it says that DB was produced until 2009. This game was released in Europe november 2010.

So the question is: is the website wrong or inaccurate and room for speculation possible since it says that dates need to be further researched? Or do have here a clear fake?

Discussion Real v. Repro?

I keep seeing things about how they are not reliable in the longterm, but others who say they are an affordable way to play old games on the real system without having to pay a lot or download sketchy links to play on emulators.

What is the actual difference between real and repro games, does it really matter, and is there actually a high likelihood of the game crashing?

I have had my set from gen 1 through ultra sun and moon since they were new for most with a few pawn shop buys before the fake flooded the ds market. For later gens. I was just curious why everyone was so concerned about Pokemon here it's almost every post. I'm not trying to offend just curious. I'm willing to submit pics of my games if anyone wants to see them

Discussion Difference between I and K on GBA cartridges?

Thumbnail

Was looking online and comparing my legitimate copy of Pokemon Ruby to some other copies for sale and a website of legitimate pcb’s taken apart to help identify. I noticed that my cartridge has the letter I on the back, but multiple pcb’s and cartridges online have the letter K. Why is there a difference?
