Beware of scams!

During the sale(...and literally any other time) be vigilant of scams!

Want a tip on how to get wallet funds on Steam? Pay for it. There is no such thing as free wallet funds or free game codes. Never login to a 3rd party site if it asks for your password or authenticator code.

If someone adds you as a friend and sends you a website or says they are from Steam/Valve or says you've been reported, they need to check your items, they're an admin, there's a ticket about you, etc.: block and report them, it is a scam.

Steam Support or anyone else associated with Valve or Steam will never speak to you directly through e-mail or via chat on Steam, Discord, or anywhere else. They will only talk to you via a support ticket, and Steam Support will never talk about you in a ticket someone else has made.

Secure your account and educate yourself on scams!

I didn’t know that he was this influential that they would do a bundle based after him. That’s funny.

Includes: Quasimorp, Intravenous 2 and DLC, and Pathologic 3. All games he reviewed before and one today.

Discussion Steam's NEW streaming codec - Pyrowave - LAG tested (and image quality tested) on my Laptop and Steam Deck (how fast in latency and Netflix's VMAF score on the quality) - How's it performing for your setup?

Thumbnail

Steam's new codec sounded very cool so I decided to enable the beta and test it out with a 240fps slow motion lag test (in pics)! I also figured out a way to test the image quality with the same test Netflix uses. Here's my setup and the results!

Lag / Latency

Client Connection Latency / Frames (median)
Steam Deck HDMI cable (CONTROL, no streaming) 0 frames
Steam Deck Ethernet - Pyrowave 17 ms · 1 frame
MacBook Pro Ethernet - Pyrowave 25 ms · 1–2 frames
Steam Overlay report Steam overlay "display latency" 10.3ms

Steams "display latency" vs my "240 fps lag test latency"

The overlay's "display latency" is good for debugging your setup, but it doesn't capture the full end to end from the gamer perspective. So my lag test will always be higher because it takes into account EVERYTHING including display refresh and is closer to the actual "feel" of the lag.

Depending on your refresh rate (60hz LCD deck) and setup you might not notice a difference in lag, but you you may notice a difference in fast motion scenes.

Image Quality
I ran Netflix's VMAF stream testing tool against a gameplay / desktop clip that was streamed vs the original. It scored 85.2 for the gameplay and on the scale this means "Very Good - most people won't notice a difference". Still working on improving this test, it's a good data point, but not perfect.

This used about 200+ mbit/s on my test over local ethernet - so it's not a good candidate for Wi-Fi. Also no Steam Link support at the time of writing, but Valve says "coming soon".

My opinion:
Worked great, looked great! Tied for the floor of ethernet latency that I've tested. But will only be useful to people with the right setups.

  • My setup: Cat8 ethernet cables (shielded)
  • 2.5gigabit ethernet switch
  • PC and Deck (and Laptop) connected to to the ethernet switch via the cables
  • Ethernet to USBC adapter (this is the 1gigabit bottleneck, but still plenty for Pyrowave)
  • Pyrowave beta codec enabled - default resolution / settings
  • I validated the throughput with iperf3 between devices at 940mbit/s - Pyrowave used around 200mbit/s in my testing

Never did i think this would be released on steam. I grew up with this game and every now and then I think about it. I tried installing it from downloads off websites in the past to relive my childhood but never got it working. Then when I googled where to find it once again trying to get it working it came up with a steam link. Thank you ZOOM for letting me feel young again. Never give up on games from the past. You never know. One day your favourite childhood game could be on steam too

Discussion AI reviews is a problem

Thumbnail

A negative review that was recently posted on my game caught my attention, so I started looking into the that user's profile. As you can see in the pictures, this account posts reviews about games using short, concise sentences, and it’s been doing this for a very long time.

Among these are some that are long and detailed (one of which happens to match my game). At first glance, the content seems reasonable, but after giving it some thought, I realized that what was written was a mix of Steam announcements I had published and the early access survey.

Metrics that are easy to track, such as Steam achievements, have also been included in this.

The funny thing is that the AI that wrote this review seems to have looked at both the positive and negative aspects of my game, compared the metrics, and concluded that the game should receive a “negative” review (Of course, this is just my own guess).

I was already wondering how someone who wrote the phrase “multiple endings, secrets, and character routes” could have come to that conclusion after playing the game for only 10 minutes.

Also, because of this one negative review, my game is now listed as “mostly positive” instead of “positive,” which is unbelievable.

I didn't see a specific button for AI accounts in Steam's reporting section, but they should add one in the future.

Discussion Would be nice to have a range price filter. Min to Max

Thumbnail

Sometimes I like to check the cheapest games, but that means that if I later want to also check slightly more expensive games, I still have to go through all the cheaper ones that I've already seen.

Having a range selector would allow for a better filter.

Question Is there a way to extend chat history?

• Upvotes

I’m mot talking about retaining weeks of past chats but sometimes I send a message to someone and by the time they reply to me I cannot see my original message anymore and vice-versa, can’t they like retain the last 2-3 messages max for each chat? How much would it weight on their server or keep it stored in my local client since I never restart my pc anyway 💔
