Remove Background
Is there any way to remove the background faster? Even my iPhone can just crop a person out from an image after pressing on it .... even free AI tools do it in seconds. Is there a function im not aware they added or is gimp on that point still in 2020?

Unless you're doing it manually, it's AI, you're just choosing between algorithms.

An algorithm is just a sequence of hand-coded instructions. It has nothing to do with neural nets.

Neural nets are a subset of machine learning which is a subset of AI. All neural nets are AI, but not all AI is neural nets.
An algorithm is a series of steps which are not necessarily hand-coded since they could be arrived at by AI. If there are decision points in an algorithm where a choice is made based on an environmental input, it is AI since "intelligence" is being used to make that decision and it is not human, but created or "artificial".
To be clear, AI is rules as part of an algorithm. It doesn't matter whether those rules come from a human hard-coding them or a machine learning them itself either using neural nets or another method.

Sorry I misspoke. Should've said: A sequence of encoded instructions.

Your quote from the GIMP homepage correctly says genAI. You said AI. It's a very important distinction.

The context is clearly the crop feature of the iPhone which IS genAI, so stop being so pedantic.

It's not being pedantic once you are necessarily talking about different flavours of AI. You can play fast and loose with your terminology when talking about it in the general sense but once you get into whether using one type of AI is fine for removing a background and another makes you the anti-Christ, then you need to be more careful with your terminology. Even talking about genAI isn't necessarily enough of a sharp distinction for some conversations since that's what resynthesizer and seam carving are, but they're not neural-net based. Or within neural nets, there are going to be some techniques which fall way short of Stable Diffusion etc. It's a case of using language as precisely as is necessary for the conversation.
It is absolutely an important distinction to make in this case since the iPhone app is going to be genAI as you say, but the video I commented on is also AI (which the person incorrectly says it wasn't), it's very arguably genAI, but it's not neural-network based genAI. Thinking that "AI" is a sufficiently precise term in this case is suggesting you can do brain surgery with a pipe-wrench. People have objections which apply to various levels and categories of AI and we need to use the right language to be able to make appropriate delineations.

The thing is AI automates some activities you could do, but much faster. So although as you say, there are ways to do it in GIMP, it's usually slightly less neat and a lot more time consuming in GIMP because it is always at least semi-manual, as opposed to fully automatic.

To do it semi-manually you use "Foreground Select" tool, which works fairly well but is not a one-click solution.
To do it automatically you need a plugin like this one.

Try this one:

uses rembg : https://github.com/danielgatis/rembg

U can use local models and then it depends on your hardware. U can try LocalBG to test local background removal

The closest is told in this Video, but you may need a better pc(not for potatos)
Or you can make it more fast using python-fu automations.
