A some point I had around 200 days of uptime on MacBook, that’s not a stereotype lol

Auch Linux kann man kaputtfrickeln.
Da müssen nur genug Stümper ins Repo kotzen, und dann is Essig mit den Commits!

Arch experience: New update? Fuck I hope it doesn't break anything

Get timeshift

Takes up too much space

Yeah hoping 1990s specs can run something that fulfills all modern feature demands. Deserve doing it the 1990s way of being forced to fix things manually.

get more space then lmao ez 🤷

btrfs snapshots might solve the issue (I think? Haven't actually needed to recover from it so far)

1

u/valerielynx 1d ago

honestly ive never used btrfs snapshots, i store all my important stuff on a reliable external ssd and if that dies im just gonna kill myself that's the backup plan 🙏

1

u/AG99871 Arch GNU/Linux 1d ago

Well btrfs snapshot is really there to save my ass incase an update borks my system (but last time it got borked, it didnt even help lol)

How do you know if ur ssd is reliable? I got a bunch of important shit on an external ssd and it kinda stresses me out too

I guess it comes down to TBW metrics and brand as well as overall reviews for it, mines an MSI M450, I've had it for 2 years or so and it's been pretty smooth sailing

I've had mine for about the same time too but you never know when it dies....

Also some apps report that ssd as an hdd so istg if linux thinks that the drive is an hdd and is secretly killing it 😭😭😭

1

u/valerielynx 1d ago

yeah mine is in a usb enclosure and even though it's an nvme it's reported as sda

I almost always had this issue on linux, especially on fedora and arch, so I can relate

Ubuntu based Mint was the breakiest for me, but I also used it when I wasn't as experienced. I've had Arch for like... 1.5 years or so now? and it's been smooth sailing. Only problem I have is that the PC, which is a laptop, can't be put to sleep when there's a display attached (I just yank the cable and it works) and that the display brightness buttons don't function (software slider still does)
