so we're happy that we have access for free to the crypto bloatware browser that charges users to de-bloat?

I fucking hate brave, I fucking hate Brendan.
But I have to say, having a browser with a built in rust adblocker that can use the same requests as uBO even without MV2 existing since it's part of the browser, is so damn good.
And it's really ironic how Brendan chose the OBJECTIVELY better language (rust) that was actually made by Mozilla (his #1 enemy for some reason), instead of using his own stupid ass language (javascript) that he literally created himself lol.

MV2 literally adds attack surface, i don't know why you would want that
5
u/YTriom1 Arch Catgirl 🏳️⚧️ :3 1d ago
it adds attack surface when an extension use it, if you truest all your mv2 extensions you should be good.
also having it opt-in in chromium flags can be nice but of course it's Nooo, because chromium is made and moderated by the biggest ad company ever so it makes sense

check ungoogled chromium. you can install uBlockOrigin there and stay as happy.

Waterfox is free. Librefox is free. They're not bloatware, don't offer crypto bullshit, and are privacy-first (Librefox moreso than Waterfox but it might be a tad too much for some people).

*librewolf is my daily driver on PC, wish they had a mobile app but waterfox does the job there

You forgot about Zen and Helium

u/JaskaCB450 1d ago
Haven't tried them yet. Do they offer mobile options? Its the one thing bothering me with Librefox.

Do waterfox and librewolf fix the Firefox memory leaks?
0
u/JaskaCB450 1d ago
I honestly don't know, but I can tell you Librefox on Desktop runs flawlessly for me and I haven't observed any massive leaks at least.
I currently only run waterfox on Mobile and am looking to change that honestly. Waterfox is OK but it doesn't tick all my boxes.

Windows - can run Microsoft teams
Mac OS - can run Microsoft teams
Linux - can run Microsoft teams
Temple OS - cannot run Microsoft teams
Conclusion: Temple OS wins

Linux driver support has gotten better over the years. Also if something's missing you can just write the driver yourself in most cases.
Linux supports every game if you're talented enough to use the tools available.
My kid uses NixOS BTW
There's also CoPilot and chrome on Linux if you really want spyware. Librewolf and opencode are better alternatives tho.
Open office is literally Microslop office 2011 without any of the bs.
Linux is also used by Millions of people, and a disproportionate amount of servers that run the entire internet.
🤷 sounds like a skill issue tbh, I endorse this conclusion.
But uh that's why windows exists in the first place isn't it?
Linux also has a bunch of other open source software that's like "if you can build it from source you can have it for free, otherwise it's gonna be $5"
I call it skill-based freemium tier.

I’m using a reverse engineered driver for elgato capture cards and it’s legit better than the official one on windows.

I have a driver for my microphone that I yoinked from the kernel source tree. It enables features from the next better microphone the the manufacture's product line because the hardware supported it.
So I bought a $80 mic on sale and got a $300 mic that wasn't on sale because of a driver update.
I've never looked at drivers the same way since.1
u/DBilly_69 1d ago
You’re writing your own drivers? That sounds cool but also difficult, no? If you respond with ‘skill issue’ that’s valid, just seems brutal to have to be a coder to get everything out of the OS

fair point, librewolf is top tier though

u/julkkis666 I use Arch, btw. 1d ago
sometimes certain videos won't play on reddit, but i assume it's due to tracking stuff being blocked 🤔

Some things are missed on Linux
- Driver support is almost parallel
- Game support is on parallel with the exception of anti-genes. But that's a temporary problem.
- Easy to use
- Nobody needs co-pilot or Edge
- This is also a temporary problem
- Used by millions of people

If you count servers used by everyone, most servers including game and website run off Linux

Op: posts circlejerk quality content on a circlejerk subreddit
The post: ratios upvotes/comments
Theres been so many "this is my unironic setup what do you think" posts here I think people forget this is linux circlejerk. The sub is becoming the thing its supposed to be circlejerking.

The fact you have to add that last line just for people not to think you were being serious is sad. It's like walking on eggshells here.

Being an anti ai while using a browser that sometimes use ai generated image as the background is crazy.

u/Juan-More-Taco 17h ago
What's crazy is you having no idea how a circle jerk sub works.

- such great driver support that I did a fresh install on a ThinkPad using the OOBE internet bypass and now there is no touchpad driver
- I don't want or need to play every game, in fact the ones with kernel-level anti cheat are the kind of games I avoid like the plague
- so easy to use they made sure to drastically change the user interface with every single release for no fucking reason! Now we have two settings menus because we can't make up our fucking mind
- copilot and edge are absolute fucking garbage
- *the microsoft OS supports microsoft's office apps
- McDonalds is eaten by millions of people every day, doesn't make it great food.

Windows is NOT easy to use they want everything to be proprietary they make it hard as hell to install and use the directX sdk they hate when you use the terminal and essentially punish you for using any other APIs but their own literally windows: you want to draw a triangle, install visual studio, climb a mountain, perform in the circus and use rocket science meanwhile linux: would wanna draw a triangle? Here's the x11 documentation and code samples, dont worry you dont need to download anything extra just do it
