A GREAT DAY FOR BEER — Named for the fearsome and toothy mythical beast said to terrorize the region at the turn of the century, Snallygaster is a celebration of craft beer, fine food, music, and more.

It's beer festival season in Maryland and around the world. Rumors suggest beer festivals are declining, but we don't want to believe it. What do you think about beer festivals? Care to share your thoughts? https://marylandbeer.net/journal/maryland-beer-opinions-sept-2026

Good morning all,

Just a question on availability of the EVO assorted 12 pack that has the #3, #6, and Pinehopple.

My wife loves this assortment, and prefers to drink from bottles, but we've been unable to find them in our local liquor stores at all this summer (Sussex County, DE). Any ideas why they seem to be unavailable? We have been able to find 6-pack bottles of #3, or Pinehopple in cans (6- or 12-packs), but otherwise no luck.

TIA for any info!

First I’ve seen of this. Lots of good Maryland beer and food!

Howdy everyone! Oktoberfest season is here again, and we’re fortunate to live in an area with so many amazing breweries and communities that embrace their German roots.

Here’s the Oktoberfest & other Fall Festivals List:

I’m still waiting to hear back from a few breweries and groups to confirm if/when they’ll be hosting their events this year. They are listed in the TBD section at the bottom (in red).

I’ve also added a few local-ish festivals to the list, and I included a Google Maps version for anyone wanting to plan a road trip!

If you notice anything missing or need an update on the list, feel free to comment or send me a DM, and I’ll get it updated. Prost!

Anyone planning to attend HopFest at Max's Taphouse in Baltimore on August 14-16? I've not attended HopFest before, but if it's anything like their Belgian Beer Fest, it was excellent.

They were doing an anniversary event at the brewery. These little art prints were random giveaways. Really wanted this, but you had to buy a specific $20 pack of beer for a chance at one random print.

If anyone out there has this and would be willing to part with it, let me know!

We’ve got a heck of a month planned, so I figured I’d hop on Reddit and post our event banner for the month of August (and our great selection of beer).

Hope to see y’all out on the Maryland’s first farm brewery!

In Part 2 of What the Barrel Remembers, I contacted Paul Davidson, co-founder and head brewer at Elder Pine Brewing and Blending in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Not particularly related to Maryland beer, other than that Guinness is in Baltimore. Someone mentioned to me that Guinness is brewing their Foreign Extra Stout in Philadelphia to help meet U.S. demand, but I can't find any reference to back up that claim. Anybody know anything about that?

In April 2026, I sat down with Matt Furda, brewer and more at Mayan Monkey Brewing in Gaithersburg, Maryland, to talk about the brewery, the beer, and all things Mayan Monkey. Matt Furda's journey into brewing is as intriguing as the beers he creates. With a degree in chemical engineering, Furda's initial foray into fermentation began with home brewing in college, alongside a burgeoning interest in fermented foods such as sourdough and sauerkraut. This early passion for science and hands-on creation laid the groundwork for his career in craft beer. Read more here.

Welcome back to the bar.

Tonight’s beer is a collaboration between two newer MD breweries, Guilford Hall of Baltimore, and RAK of Frederick. An atypical style for both breweries, this takes pilsner to a bolder level with the addition of classic WC IPA Hops. 5.6 %, great for summer heat.

8/10

I write the Maryland column for the Mid-Atlantic Brew News. What’s happening with the Maryland Beer scene in June 2026? The Maryland Craft Beer Festival returns to Frederick, RaR opens Chessie’s Campus in Salisbury, we say farewell to Wico Street Beer Company, and more. https://marylandbeer.net/journal/maryland-beer-updates-june-2026

I write, read, promote, and share about Maryland Beer. Here is my latest piece, part of a 3-part series on barrel-aged beer titled What the Barrel Remembers: Secrets of Aging, Blending, and Tasting Barrel-Aged Beer — Part 1. I talk with Mike Tonsmeire about the Sapwood Cellars Brewery BA program. I hope you like it, perhaps gain a greater appreciation for these creations, and share your thoughts. https://marylandbeer.net/journal/what-the-barrel-remembers-part-1
