GW lifegain is insane in reality fracture limited, i didnt even think i had that good of a deck, but here we are!

I was very lucky in my 6th game though. My opponent had 1 card in his library, and a Fblthp, Impossibly Lost in hand, and the blue Arni on the board. He also had blue chandras emblem. If he would have just played the Fblthp he would have won, but for some reason he activated Arnis ability to draw a card and THEN cast Fblthp, triggering the emblem and milling himself out!

Question Surveilling on an empty library

I just lost a game of limited because I surveilled on an empty library and it didn’t turn off [[Surveillance Phantasm]]’s defender. Is that the way it’s supposed to work or is that a bug?

Edit: changed “survived” to “surveilled”

Do people genuinely enjoy playing Hare Apparat decks

I have played this same deck 3 times in the last 5 competitive brawl games

I genuinely don’t get it, we play this game to have fun, is it actually enjoyable to play the same card over and over and over again

Either I draw one of the few card in my deck that completely ruins your game (and you concede) or you keep playing the same card until I concede out of boredom or I lose

There is zero skill, zero excitement, zero anticipation, what is the point

Rant over

Bug Any word on when we'll get the allied Portal Lands for real?

Thumbnail

It was advertised in the FRA card gallery as an arena cosmetic, there's a bundle named "Portal Lands", and it would complete the set from SOS (where the same style was used for the enemy-color lands), but instead we got Innistrad art. The same Innistrad art appears in the collection view twice making it clear that this is not just Innistrad art being randomly bundled in the FRA collection but that the wrong art was uploaded. Has anyone from WotC acknowledged this, or better given an ETA on a fix? This is the one cosmetic from the set I was excited to pick up.

Discussion Goyf

I have been watching a ton of fractured reality constructed content and I’ve noticed that most content creators are playing goyf in graveyard centered decks. That’s obviously a natural home for goyf, but was never really the point of goyf. Maybe I’m just old, but tarmogoyf was strong because it rewarded you for playing the game and letting things occur naturally. I’ve been having some success with a GB midrange deck that has no graveyard synergy, just plays good value cards, and goyf has been a fantastic finisher. (I’ll send a deck list if anyone cares, but not the point of this post). So I’m intrigued, has the overall mtg deck building philosophy shifted and people are trying to turbo power goyf because it’s the optimal way to play goyf now, or have enough people exited the game since goyf was last relevant that they don’t remember what made goyf so dominant?

WotC Thank you to Wizards for Creating Brawl

I've been an on and off player since the late 90s, and I have just had the most fun I've probably ever had playing magic. Yes, ever. I lost but it doesn't matter because the game was so much fun. In unranked brawl I was on UW Control w/ [[Teferi, Time Reveler]] and my opponent was on Mono-blue Affinity w/ [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]]. After a lot of back and forth my opponent was able to ultimate their [[Ugin, Eye of the Storms]] before I could answer it, and dealt lethal after attacking me on turn 38. Funnily enough I drew [[Stifle]] between those 2 turns which could have kept the game going if I had it the prior turn.

A few observations about what made the game fun for me in priority order:

  1. Both players had agency
  2. The game featured many meaningful, non-obvious decisions for both players
  3. Both players attacked each other on almost all axes in the game: the board, card advantage, graveyard tricks, stack interaction, life totals, poison counters, and towards the end of the game even threatening to mill out the libraries.
  4. There were moments where I was ahead and moments where my opponent was ahead

So a big thank you to Wizards for supporting both brawl and competitive brawl.

I have to say the contrast with Standard right now is rather stark. There are so many games in Standard these days where the players have few (if any) non-obvious decisions to make. So I think I will be taking a hiatus from Standard until that changes and will stick with Brawl.

Discussion Does the opponent also hear the sound effect? If so, isn't it broken to have a cosmetic that does sanity damage?

Jace walks into a bar, than Jace walks into a bar, than Jace walks into a bar. The three of them sit and the barman draws a card. Afterwards, all the Jace leave the bar.

After the update I had this rectangle appear in the bottom corner and I don't know what it does or what its from? I click it and it appears to do nothing at all. This was not here until the latest update with the new set. Does anyone else have this or know what it is?

Deck Azorius Midrange Standard Homebrew with an... underused wincon. :D

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

The deck that finally made Azorius fun for me, finally actually making one of my favorite pet cards usable.

Homunculus Horde! I love these silly little goobers and self duplicating properties. :P
But they were never really that good because of their cost, their stats, and the aggro heavy badgermole and prowess meta a couple months back. But with the recent release of Reality Fracture, this deck got two very shiny, new toys to play with!

Anyways, time for a deck explanation! Or skip to the end for a Moxfield decklist.

Firstly, the deck requires a lot of ways to activate horde on the first turn it enters. If you can achieve that, then 4 mana for 2 2/2s is actually a decent deal. Cards that enable this are Malcolm, Enduring Innocence, and the recently released Great Gilded Boat. Each has their individual strengths, but they all draw a card without any additional mana, allowing for a turn 4 Homunculus Horde activation.

Besides that, most of the deck is dedicated to stack interaction. Love or hate it, its Azorius' best strength which is why this deck has 12 pieces of it! Horrid, absolutely horrid, but it's necessary to protect the little homunculi babies. 🥺
No More Lies is a classic Azorius counter and Spider-Sense can is also a great hard counter that can especially deal with those Sunderflock triggers, grrrr... While this deck seems like it lacks spot removal, it's actually made up by the recently released Fatehold Charm! And Aang... he's there too. All of Fatehold Charm's abilities are absolutely cracked with this deck. Cantrip, bounce spell or creature, and a boardwide buff for the homunculi in case of red sweeper.
There's also a boardwipe in the deck, Expel the Interlopers! Allowing you to one side boardwipe any scary green decks that try to trample the children.

And to tie it all together, The Theorist, Jace! Homunculus Horde goes crazy when you can trigger on both yours and opponent's turn, and Jace's passive ability makes it so much easier, drawing a card on the opponent's turn rather than yours. While it doesn't mean he can't trigger it on your turn by himself, there's already plenty of ways that the deck can do that.
Besides that, Jace is just... good. Card draw and token generator and can bounce? It's a 35 dollar mythic for a reason.

Lastly, this deck runs 25 lands, this deck desperately needs its land drops and I might run even more. A notable land includes Agna Qel'a for it's looting ability for 3 mana. If you got nothing else, this'll do. I'm also considering Fountainport since it can draw a card for 2 mana by sacrificing a token. Not an uncommon requirement to have with Boat, and Jace, and... the homunculi 🥺, but I'm kind of biased against colorless lands because this deck has a lot of colored pips on its spells. Thank you Reality Fracture for Deserted Beach! (Cavern of Souls... never again...)

Anyways, enjoy some fun screenshots of fun wins against some decks, and of course, the Moxfield link: https://moxfield.com/decks/fM7dRMufVUieC6vBfIFDSw

New Brew- Legendary Booties with Ghalta the Unmoveable

Thumbnail

If you are like me and have been thinking about Ghalta the Immovable ever since it was spoiled, then this deck is for you. It is very much a rough draft (and I've made some edits since taking these screenshots, could go down on lands and use some more card draw, and mana base could be worked on). But I present *Booties of Legend*. Unfortunately not rotation proof. However, there's a lot of high roll potential here. Caelorna on turn 2 guarantees Ghalta on turn 3. You can even get Ghalta out on turn 2 with a combination of aegis turtle, toughness pump spell, and you're attacking for 8 on turn 2, or 13 on turn 3. Tetsuko is an all star in giving your board of big dumb idiots unblockable. Armadillo is super important, as it allows you to pressure life totals while you're waiting for a booty attacker (bedrock tortiose or ghalta). Hull Clade is not a good card, however it is templated like original ghalta, caring about total toughness, so can come down when the Immovable might not be able to. Other all star cards in this deck- acrobatic leap giving +3 and flying is great for getting around enemies. Chlonian tackle is a maybe- it is a huge power boost but it's in the splash color, and doesn't actually kill anything because Ghalta only changes combat damage, not fight damage.

The deck stonewalls mono red, and especially lizards which is the new aggro hotness. It can even perform decently against control, with all the creatures unexciting targets for removal, and bedrock tortoise protecting the board on your turn, or ghalta coming down fast enough to put the opponent on the back foot early.

The deck is ruined by side boards almost certainly, so it's probably destined to be a best of 1 meme deck only. But tell me, what would you add/remove? What would you do to make it best of 3 playable? The core of the deck is one drop booties, caelorana, ghalta, and the rest is how you want to run it. Post rotation it probably becomes abzan, to get doran into the deck, but the deck then loses its most aggro draws.

Question What constructed formats are you enjoying?

Used to play a lot of standard and standard brawl, but then took a break once U.B. became standard legal. Coming back, standard is..... unrecognizable and I feel no incentive to get back into it. Instead I've been really enjoying drafting in-universe sets. It takes me back to kids-at-the-kitchen-table magic which is the dragon a lot of us are chasing when we play this game. I just grind starter deck duels for coins which I spend on pick-two or quick draft. Earned gems go back into buying drafts but I'll also throw in a fiver ~once a week or two to keep the machine rolling.

I miss underpowered, thinky-crunchy magic and I'm only finding that in limited formats. Does Arena offer any constructed formats that provide that? Are you enjoying the current state of standard?

Hello guys, I just built one of my first custom decks after seeing Seth from MTGGoldfish playing a similar list in EA.

It's a mono blue control list that aims to end the game with [[Jace, Reality Sculptor]]. I'm looking for a bit of guidance on the list starting from its viability, as my standard knowledge is limited and would like to also start playing it in BO3. Any kind of suggestion is appreciated!

Deck

Lands:

20 Island

4 Theorist's Sanctum

Non-creature spells

3 Spell Snare

3 Aetherize

3 Three Steps Ahead

3 Into the Flood Maw

4 Long River's Pull

2 Waterbending Scroll

4 Countersculpt

4 Jace's Machinations

3 The Theorist, Jace Beleren

3 Jace, Reality Sculptor

Creature spells:

4 Theorist's Proxy

Please help me not mess this up! Pretty insane set of rares and mythics. Looking to get opinions on the build and even colors. I have played 2 games so far and won both with the deck you see. Game 2 I played nothing until turn 5, then garrick, uptick to untap and play brutality to kill one of their creatures. Drop to 2 life, play ajani next turn, wipe the board, make a beast with garrick. Next turn use ajanis haste and garricks overrun with the hoard of tokens ive made plus constrari to swing for lethal in 1 turn. Ajani is gross and with garrick hes even more gross haha. I appreciate any input and help!

Thanks!

Was just checking out the new stuff in the store and came across this "Those sure are nice words" line for Garruk. Why does it sound like he's getting donked on the head at the start haha. Like he starts it off with a Homer-esque D'oh or something
