Event I just won my first collector booster sealed event!
GW lifegain is insane in reality fracture limited, i didnt even think i had that good of a deck, but here we are!
I was very lucky in my 6th game though. My opponent had 1 card in his library, and a Fblthp, Impossibly Lost in hand, and the blue Arni on the board. He also had blue chandras emblem. If he would have just played the Fblthp he would have won, but for some reason he activated Arnis ability to draw a card and THEN cast Fblthp, triggering the emblem and milling himself out!

Discussion Does the opponent also hear the sound effect? If so, isn't it broken to have a cosmetic that does sanity damage?
Jace walks into a bar, than Jace walks into a bar, than Jace walks into a bar. The three of them sit and the barman draws a card. Afterwards, all the Jace leave the bar.

Fun
These cards are so fun together. Turn two 5/5 indestructible in standard is crazy.

Bug Any word on when we'll get the allied Portal Lands for real?
It was advertised in the FRA card gallery as an arena cosmetic, there's a bundle named "Portal Lands", and it would complete the set from SOS (where the same style was used for the enemy-color lands), but instead we got Innistrad art. The same Innistrad art appears in the collection view twice making it clear that this is not just Innistrad art being randomly bundled in the FRA collection but that the wrong art was uploaded. Has anyone from WotC acknowledged this, or better given an ETA on a fix? This is the one cosmetic from the set I was excited to pick up.

Question Surveilling on an empty library
I just lost a game of limited because I surveilled on an empty library and it didn’t turn off [[Surveillance Phantasm]]’s defender. Is that the way it’s supposed to work or is that a bug?
Edit: changed “survived” to “surveilled”

Deck Finally, I can eat
Finally got around to building a food deck that I’ve been wanting to, and it’s funky but fun. This board wipe is an insane combo if it’s allowed to resolve. Trying to figure out how to better gear this deck to flow a little better. Any card suggestions that work well in a food deck with Ygra commander?
Cards like [[Midnight Snack]] and [[Heroic Feast]] have worked well so far, so any cards similar?
Edit: Here’s the deck list. Forgot to include it

Do people genuinely enjoy playing Hare Apparat decks
I have played this same deck 3 times in the last 5 competitive brawl games
I genuinely don’t get it, we play this game to have fun, is it actually enjoyable to play the same card over and over and over again
Either I draw one of the few card in my deck that completely ruins your game (and you concede) or you keep playing the same card until I concede out of boredom or I lose
There is zero skill, zero excitement, zero anticipation, what is the point
Rant over

Limited Help Crazy Sealed Pool
Please help me not mess this up! Pretty insane set of rares and mythics. Looking to get opinions on the build and even colors. I have played 2 games so far and won both with the deck you see. Game 2 I played nothing until turn 5, then garrick, uptick to untap and play brutality to kill one of their creatures. Drop to 2 life, play ajani next turn, wipe the board, make a beast with garrick. Next turn use ajanis haste and garricks overrun with the hoard of tokens ive made plus constrari to swing for lethal in 1 turn. Ajani is gross and with garrick hes even more gross haha. I appreciate any input and help!
Thanks!

Question Experienced TCG Player Going Down a Rabbit Hole of Questions
Hi r/MagicArena, I've gotten into MTG the last month or so after a hiatus from TCGs. While I'm really enjoying the game, there are so many modes, cards, ways of gaining cards etc that I'm becoming a bit overwhelmed with questions and thought this sub could help me collect my thoughts.
For a bit of background, I'm not new to the world of TCGs. I've played competitive Pokemon for a while, played a decent amount of Hearthstone in the past, and mainly spent a few years playing Legends of Runeterra (even hitting top 500 NA on the ladder) before giving it up due to lack of support for their multiplayer. So I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of the basic concepts of Magic even if I haven't played a TCG in a while.
I'm aiming to be FTP for the most part. I bought the new player bundles as my "seed money" into the game to buy the new mastery pass and have a few gems for various purposes. I did pretty well in the first 2 quick drafts I played (5-3, 4-3), so I have about 1k gems remaining at the moment.
So with that out of the way, here is the aforementioned loop of questions I have been stuck in regarding how to best proceed:
1) What is the best way to build my collection? I've seen from other posts that packs are better for wildcards and draft (pick two or premier) are best for gaining cards of the latest set, getting a bigger collection, and converting gold into gems. Most of these posts aren't by those who are looking to be FTP, so is there an option that is best for limited investment into the game? Is one method or the other better for building decks for different modes?
2) I've seen others say that playing draft paid for by coins is a good way to get enough gems for the next mastery pass and remain FTP. Seems like a sound strategy, but what if I end up enjoying draft more? Is it worth it to invest any extra gems back into drafts? Or would they be better off going into packs for more wildcards after reaching the 3400 gem checkpoint for the pass?
3) In order to get the gold for drafts to get gems to get mastery pass to remain FTP (see what I mean about rabbit hole?) it seems like the best strategy is to net deck a good standard deck to climb the ladder and finish dailies. Is this still the best strategy to quickly and reliably finish dailies and farm the most gold? Is it worth the first and only batch of rare and mythic wildcards that I will get for a while?
I have tried just playing standard with with slightly updated versions of the B/W and B/U starter decks and I can get some wins against ok decks, but there are some decks that do things like have 8 lands by turn 3 and just win the game from there. I feel like my deck is just not strong enough to compete with those meta decks even if I pilot it well.
4) If so, what deck(s) would be best to play? From what I have experienced with starter decks as well as dabbling in making some homemade Standard Brawl decks, I'm trending towards some combo of W/U/B. Probably more towards dimir or orzhov. Unless any esper decks are good?
5) Are there any decks in these colors that aren't one of the top 10 meta decks, but are still competitive and fun to play?
6) After making my first deck to play with in standard, what is the best mode to build a deck for next? I've had a bit of success in making Standard Brawl decks off of commanders that look fun in my collection (probably because it is matching me against similarly low powered commanders and decks). I think the idea of a singleton format is very interesting, but so far I have liked limited formats the best since everyone is on the same playing field. It just doesn't seem as feasible to continuously play limited as an FTP player unless you are godlike and can truly go infinite in drafts.

Bug What is this rectangle?
After the update I had this rectangle appear in the bottom corner and I don't know what it does or what its from? I click it and it appears to do nothing at all. This was not here until the latest update with the new set. Does anyone else have this or know what it is?

Beginner friendly matchmaking
As someone who is relatively new to Arena, it would be nice if the matchmaking algorithm took into account games played. If there was another place for people with less games to play. To be fair, I don't know if it is or isn't.
I have been playing standard. And most of the decks I run into are 70-80% rares, alternate arts and I just don't stand a chance. Now, Wizards may say, well buy more cards, which is absolutely fair. However, it makes it hard to earn xp and coins for cards when you are just so outgunned.

WotC Thank you to Wizards for Creating Brawl
I've been an on and off player since the late 90s, and I have just had the most fun I've probably ever had playing magic. Yes, ever. I lost but it doesn't matter because the game was so much fun. In unranked brawl I was on UW Control w/ [[Teferi, Time Reveler]] and my opponent was on Mono-blue Affinity w/ [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]]. After a lot of back and forth my opponent was able to ultimate their [[Ugin, Eye of the Storms]] before I could answer it, and dealt lethal after attacking me on turn 38. Funnily enough I drew [[Stifle]] between those 2 turns which could have kept the game going if I had it the prior turn.
A few observations about what made the game fun for me in priority order:
- Both players had agency
- The game featured many meaningful, non-obvious decisions for both players
- Both players attacked each other on almost all axes in the game: the board, card advantage, graveyard tricks, stack interaction, life totals, poison counters, and towards the end of the game even threatening to mill out the libraries.
- There were moments where I was ahead and moments where my opponent was ahead
So a big thank you to Wizards for supporting both brawl and competitive brawl.
I have to say the contrast with Standard right now is rather stark. There are so many games in Standard these days where the players have few (if any) non-obvious decisions to make. So I think I will be taking a hiatus from Standard until that changes and will stick with Brawl.

Question What constructed formats are you enjoying?
Used to play a lot of standard and standard brawl, but then took a break once U.B. became standard legal. Coming back, standard is..... unrecognizable and I feel no incentive to get back into it. Instead I've been really enjoying drafting in-universe sets. It takes me back to kids-at-the-kitchen-table magic which is the dragon a lot of us are chasing when we play this game. I just grind starter deck duels for coins which I spend on pick-two or quick draft. Earned gems go back into buying drafts but I'll also throw in a fiver ~once a week or two to keep the machine rolling.
I miss underpowered, thinky-crunchy magic and I'm only finding that in limited formats. Does Arena offer any constructed formats that provide that? Are you enjoying the current state of standard?

Question BRAWL Guide
I finally decided to give up on Standard. I want to get into Brawl but I have no idea where to start.
What stables should I craft and what commanders to play?
Should I play Casual or competitive?
I prefer Golgari/Sultai archetypes. What do you guys suggest?

New Brew- Legendary Booties with Ghalta the Unmoveable
If you are like me and have been thinking about Ghalta the Immovable ever since it was spoiled, then this deck is for you. It is very much a rough draft (and I've made some edits since taking these screenshots, could go down on lands and use some more card draw, and mana base could be worked on). But I present *Booties of Legend*. Unfortunately not rotation proof. However, there's a lot of high roll potential here. Caelorna on turn 2 guarantees Ghalta on turn 3. You can even get Ghalta out on turn 2 with a combination of aegis turtle, toughness pump spell, and you're attacking for 8 on turn 2, or 13 on turn 3. Tetsuko is an all star in giving your board of big dumb idiots unblockable. Armadillo is super important, as it allows you to pressure life totals while you're waiting for a booty attacker (bedrock tortiose or ghalta). Hull Clade is not a good card, however it is templated like original ghalta, caring about total toughness, so can come down when the Immovable might not be able to. Other all star cards in this deck- acrobatic leap giving +3 and flying is great for getting around enemies. Chlonian tackle is a maybe- it is a huge power boost but it's in the splash color, and doesn't actually kill anything because Ghalta only changes combat damage, not fight damage.
The deck stonewalls mono red, and especially lizards which is the new aggro hotness. It can even perform decently against control, with all the creatures unexciting targets for removal, and bedrock tortoise protecting the board on your turn, or ghalta coming down fast enough to put the opponent on the back foot early.
The deck is ruined by side boards almost certainly, so it's probably destined to be a best of 1 meme deck only. But tell me, what would you add/remove? What would you do to make it best of 3 playable? The core of the deck is one drop booties, caelorana, ghalta, and the rest is how you want to run it. Post rotation it probably becomes abzan, to get doran into the deck, but the deck then loses its most aggro draws.

Fluff I did the thing! In draft!
Only my second draft in the set, and this is a bit of a random pile, but I tried to pull together a decent Dimir self-mill, ajd splashed green for the Something Worth Savings(x3) which definitely helped. I didn't have enough finishers and I dont play mill often, so there were probably piloting errors... only got the one win lol
But it was a super fun win!!! And one of my losses was from a noobie mistake, misunderstood the card and thought I could auto win with Fblthp on the board and mo library. Not the case obviously!
Anyways, I never get to do the thing so I wanted to share.
