Discussion Anything I can take to help me STFU?

I have a problem with oversharing and regretting it later (worse when drunk). I also have a problem waffling on when talking and filling in the silence. I was wondering if there’s anything I could take to calm my mind and not have the urge to talk. I just want to sit in silence but it seems impossible to do in social situations for me.

This sounds like ADHD. Have you talked to a doctor about this, by chance?

This sounds like it could be the cause. NAD but I would start there. I don’t have any nootropics recommendation because honestly, if you have ADHD, medication is the only thing that will truly treat it (speaking from someone who has it).

Since I started medication for it, I feel like I can control my words as they seemed to move quicker than my thoughts to not over share or interrupt. It also immensely helped lessen my anxiety and depression.

What meds are you on exactly

I don't think people are excited to post their medicine stack, but I'll share, just not too specific. Adderall, Bupropion, Effexor, Creatine, Glycine, NAC.

Classic ADHD symptom. I had the same problem, especially when drinking. I've been treated for ADHD, and it makes everything interesting. So you're more likely to listen than talk.

I will say, ADHD meds are a game changer and a pain in the ass. It's a huge commitment. No refills. Your doctor must send a new script every month. If you lose health insurance the medicine costs way more.

Also a pain in the ass when they are out of stock. Calling 10+ pharmacies that may or may not tell you if they have it in stock

Excellent point. And rarely do they say what they have.

Also see a psychiatrist, not a general physician. Most general docs don't like prescribing controlled substances.

I mean logically it makes sense that they don't want to tell people what drugs they have in case of addicts or robbers but it's such a headache. Especially when you have to get your doctor to send the prescription then they'll tell you if it's in stock or not. It becomes an all day event as I'm sure you know.

Maybe cut out some of the drinking. I think the problem with taking stuff that calms you down might be that it makes you more likely to talk/overshare.

You could try mindfulness meditation. This could help you to be more aware of your actions, thoughts, and what you are doing in the moment. Any substance you take to help with this will be a short term fix tbh.

In the morning a cup of coffee and journaling might help your psyche and for the evening or before bed switch to tea and journaling. The act of physically writing will help release those thoughts but I don’t think you should stfu. Honestly sounds like you should gather your thoughts and then go talk to a mental health professional.
