this level of openness from devs is S tier

agree this is how you dig out of shithole reforge was

only thing i see here, it is clear team is small, so RoC/TFT DE is long long long way off

It only takes a small team to get it done if they are competent.

Which is a bummer because I was hoping it'd be ready for the two week break between Forever's beta ending and it's launch on November 4th.

u/Lionhearte 3d ago

Not necessarily. I looked into the numbers of unique models that need to be done and with the assets they've already finished, they've actually covered about 3/5 of the models necessary for the entire game - and they might have already begun work on the Campaign models before the release, but just weren't able to finish them as a set (why release half of the Naga updated if the other half aren't finished?). My guess is that they're still a couple of months a way because they're adjusting things based on feedback as well, with new terrain appearance and fixing some unit animations, but it'll probably be the next patch after this one.

But would they also need to improve the cinematics, in terms of the cameras, as well as add new body and facial animations too? Otherwise it would look very wooden compared to FK.

Not to mention improvement in map details and lighting to match that of FK.

I'm not so sure they can get away with just models.

It is cool and I hope they don’t get fired. Many companies have policies against talking about development publicly unless authorized to do so.

Hoping they are good to keep sharing updates!

Damn they admitted to rushing. Actually like this kind of transparency from the devs. They probably had a tight dead line because they needed to release it for blizzcon and didn't want to cross contaminate the release with wow forever launch.

u/thought_youd_stop 5d ago

rushing to meet an arbitrary date has always been a terrible way to release software. "whatever is ready by this date than by god that's what the public will get no matter what bugs may exist"

u/Odd_Technology_8926 5d ago

No shit it's not optimal, I'm assuming Blizzard's priority is WoW Forever and they aren't going to postpone the release date for WC3. It had critical lore in it that they wanted released before WoW forever.

They were obviously trying to hit a strategic deadline.

Glad to have bought back reforged and bought the new campaign on day one. That’s how you get customers happy.

It would be really nice if they also added back some of the oomph of unit projectiles too!! Gryphon hammers for instance feel super small/light compared to how hard they hit.

God bless shareholders and management for making every product rushed and its reception ruined, thereby limiting its long term potential - all for the sake of extremely short term profit....

While I won't say that this isn't one of three things ruining the games nowadays, there is the opposite ends of the spectrum to consider - a development hell that never ends until someone comes along and tells the devs to have it done by a certain point or else.

u/Nihillo 4d ago

Yes, but to be fair, that really doesn't happen as much, there are some notable examples that come to mind, like Duke Nukem Forever of course, or Star Citizen for a more modern one, there are more, but my mind is too tired atm. I feel that it is something that can and certainly does happen, but it tends to be a bunch of exceptions rather than a predictable pattern in game development.

3

u/MrAudreyHepburn 4d ago

99% of the time this is true, but it could be in this case the devs themseleves also were reaching for the blizzcon shadow drop.

3

u/betaraybrian 4d ago

Have a look at Star Citizen for how projects with 0 overhead and 0 responsibility goes.
It's not so black and white.

u/CommissarPravum 3d ago

That game is becoming an artwork, finished or not.

1

u/betaraybrian 3d ago

Sure, like Merda d'artista or Fountain.
I'm a 2012 backer. The game is a buggy, shitty tech demo held up by a cult of personality and a dev team who clearly realize they're essentially scam artists at this point, but have no idea what to do about it. The recent livestream shitshow was absolutely cathartic to watch.

1

u/CommissarPravum 3d ago

YES you catch my vibe!!

1billion dollars btw, 14 years btw. God i love that project so much.

You really tried to make a complete thought here. So close

5

u/GuiEsponja 4d ago edited 4d ago

Idk what do you mean, seems more like a skill issue on your part tbh, the only problem here is a minor typing error in "same" instead of "sake"

-2

u/MobileVortex 4d ago

lol what?

5

u/GuiEsponja 4d ago

I'm replying to your comment implying OP "didn't form a complete thought", by asking what do you mean, since they wrote a valid and normal comment, sans the typing error

0

u/MobileVortex 4d ago

I replied to a deleted comment..

3

u/Various_Necessary_45 4d ago

It's not deleted, you're probably blocked.

2

u/MobileVortex 4d ago

Well I can't see it to describe how it's not q complete thought. From what I remember it had like 6 commas a hyphen and 100% did not have a complete thought.

3

u/Various_Necessary_45 4d ago

Here you go! It has been edited.

God bless shareholders and management for making every product rushed and its reception ruined, thereby limiting its long term potential - all for the sake of extremely short term profit....

0

u/MobileVortex 4d ago

Very different and they used AI great lol

2

u/passwordlostnoemail 4d ago

Just one comma and one hyphen, and one completely asinine and incorrect response made by you that you haven't retracted at all in three more responses.

2

u/MobileVortex 4d ago

They edited the response then lol

3

u/Daunteh 5d ago

Makes sense. The Huntress was a copy paste of the Reforged animations.

3

u/mini_lord 4d ago

Keep up the good work

2

u/nutzergeloescht1 4d ago

Hopefully they fix the teeth of the abomination. The DE version orbit just looks like a uglier version of „Drachenlord“…

4

u/ozusteapot 5d ago

Nice! One thing I dislike is how poorly optimized thr new graphics are, hopefully they can inprove on that in the coming months too

3

u/Qwester0 5d ago

Does anyone know if they'll fix the ghouls? They look awful.

1

u/whitecoathousing 3d ago

Let me ask my brother-in-law that works on the Warcraft 3 team /s

1

u/Qwester0 2d ago

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing the updates after the next maintenance. 😎👌

1

u/SafironDracolich 4d ago

In light of this news, I will say only one thing: "Humanity restored."

1

u/googi123 3d ago

Keep it up! I really like DE gfx and look forward to replay the campaigns again in DE!

1

u/StrengthLower997 3d ago

Can they remake the unused Chaos Orc Ranged too please

1

u/Fit_Drawer_1446 3d ago

What about the melee units and heroes with only one auto-attack animation? Garek (all forms), Landen (human [lol even non-playable undead Landen has 2 auto-attack animations]), Forsaken Paladin tavern hero, almost ALL of the Forsaken campaign bosses, Siege Golems, Dragonspawn creeps (missing an attack animation compared to classic graphics), and probably more.

1

u/Dorazion 3d ago

Pretty incredible to hear this level of day-by-day update.

I mean... I can only assume they are reading this. So I understand you have a backlog of changes, but please prioritize the readability of "top of units head" visual buffs like Speed Scroll or when a unit is afflicted by Shadow Strike poison.

The level of readability is very small in both of these cases.

Oh, and please for the love of everything. The Shadow Hunters attack animation needs to be adjusted! The glaive is too damn big!

1

u/Dazz9 2d ago

Freelance animator contracted by Blizzard - there corrected it for you.

1

u/hypespud 5d ago

It is true, people just accept unfinished products

Easier to apologize than just do it properly from the start

Weird praise going on in here, people should be expecting it to be ready for release on release

Why is the bar so low?

3

u/whitecoathousing 4d ago

People seem to have forgotten that StarCraft 2 released incomplete without clans or chat channels.

Blizzard has been releasing unpolished products for over 15 years now. They haven’t released polished products since the era of WC3/SC/D2

2

u/Nihillo 4d ago

Yeah, I think it just became too normalized. My stance is that the developers themselves, like this animator, working their ass off to catch up to a bad management decision, isn't themself to blame for this practice, but corporate management, on the other hand, is.

I find it reasonable to acknowledge and respect the efforts of the people trying to clean it up and give us a good graphics package, but also agree with you completely that games should be in a state that is more or less good to go (room for error, of course) on launch, rather than shipping whatever and fixing it over time.

2

u/Chonammoth1 4d ago

Didn't they release Wc3 without the full rexxar campaign?

2

u/Chonammoth1 4d ago edited 4d ago

Guy blocks me. only 1/3 missions was available on release. the other 2 were on versions on patch 1.13 btw.

-1

u/hypespud 4d ago

It came out with TFT, wtf are you talking about, it all released at once

Dumbass Blizzard fanboys choking on Blizzard's dick I see

2

u/GuiEsponja 3d ago

It did not, I was there watching it unfold live lmao

The first map was out with the launch TFT, the others were added later with patch 1.13

Same for a bunch of the tavern heroes. Firelord, Tinker and Alchemist didn't come until some patches later

1

u/betaraybrian 3d ago

Frozen throne was out in July I think, and Act 2 and 3 of Founding of Durotar was out in December or so.

It was very weird at the time. One of the first examples of freelc, but years before any of those terms existed of course. This was before the Oblivion horse armor even.

Just google stuff before commenting next time. I know we're not all old enough to remember these events, but you have the ability to inform yourself at your fingertips.

1

u/lupask 3d ago

the thing is that by the time it's actually all finished, it's already old. you have got to draw a line somewhere

0

u/Lionhearte 3d ago

look imma be real with you fam, the alternative was we got fuck all and the game left in the shitter. Apparently the new campaign was green lit but afterward the team decided to do new models, and they thought they could get it done before Blizzcon, and they missed the mark on a handful of units, big fucking woop. The game is back, we're getting DE version of campaign, and potential for new campaigns in the future, it's more than I was expecting and I was expecting nothing.

1

u/rubensosaortiz 4d ago

any chance for unique models for each unit like reforged?

-1

u/mrakobesie 4d ago

The other day someone posted a conspiracy theory about WC3 new dlc related threads being botted and now after a few weeks since release these threads still having uncharacteristically high upvote counts I'm starting to believe.

-1

u/Burgerfreakish 4d ago

if u had to rush them to release... then u didnt really release it, did you?

And WHY did you...

1

u/whitecoathousing 3d ago

The reason is obvious
