RiiConnect24's Guide is great for that!

Wiiflow Lite

  • Some versions of Wiiflow Lite come with default settings that cause a black screen on load of Wii games.
  • Consider updating to the latest version!

1) Open Wiiflow lite settings.

1) Go into NAND Emulation settings (it's got 3 pages of settings about NAND emulation) and make your settings match this:

``` Page 1- Select NAND: default NAND emulation: Partial Select Saves NAND: default Saves NAND emulation: off
Page 3- Saves NAND Partition: SD Use Real NAND Config: On Use Real NAND Miis: On ```
  • Try to see if WiiFlow will play any of your wii games again.
  • If it still crashes/black screens:
    • Load WiiFlow again
    • Press HOME on the Wiimote
    • Select Reload Cache
    • Try playing a Wii game again
The Guide Wii Recommend
  • still RiiConnect24's guide is the best out there
    • its very well maintained
    • if this changes, we'll change our recommendation
  • do not use out of date guides
    • this doesn't mean all video/youtube guides are bad, just most of them
    • most print/web page guides are wrong/outdated in some way too
    • if you're adamant on not using RiiConnect24's guide please find someone who knows what they are talking about to verify that the one you use isn't wrong BEFORE you start to mod your Wii
To Change a Drive From GPT to MBR
  • To change a drive to MBR on Windows
    • open disk management.
    • If you're on Windows 8 or higher, do Windows key + X and click on disk management.
    • Once you're there, find the drive you need to convert to MBR and right click on the area where it says "Disk" and then the number of the disc.
    • If it's not already MBR, you'll see an available option to convert to MBR disk. Use that option.
  • has a much more complex interface (command line, unix-like)
  • it does work on Gamecube images
ISOtoWBFS
  • Command line
  • no collection management
  • no complexity
  • it simply does one thing; ISO to WBFS
  • there is also a WBFStoISO, but it's less useful
The Wii and Wifi
  • Your router must support 802.11 b/g
Show-n-Tell Something every Wii owner need to know
You can actually play DVDs on your Wii with this setup:
  • you first need to have a modded Wii with the homebrew channel installed on it
  • you have to put WiiMC either by using the homebrew browser or finding it online
For people who have bought a Wii possibly before 2008 (so theirs is not a family edition Wii):
After you go into your Wii and then to the homebrew channel, go to WiiMC, put your DVD disc into your Wii and then click on the DVD icon, and the DVD will just start up!
If it doesn't load immediately and gives you an error like "DVD playback is not supported on this Wii" or says something like "unknown disc format" turn back to the homebrew channel menu, then load WiiMC again, wait a minute, and then load again the disc. It should work
For people who have bought a Wii after 2011 and so it's a family-edition Wii or also for old models that doesn't support DVDs (or has a vWii, that is the Wii inside the Wii U):
Family-edition Wiis (the ones who also don't have GameCube support) but also some old models can't play DVDs on their own, so you'll need an External CD/DVD reader and burner with a Y cable and connecting it to the two rear USB ports. If you don't have one you can also find it on Amazon for example. They're really cheap, between 4 and 9 euros/dollars. Now after you have everything set up, after you go into your Wii and then to the homebrew channel, ensure you have put into the rear Wii USB ports the Y cable and that it's connected to the DVD reader. Go to WiiMC, wait a minute and then click on the DVD icon, and the DVD will just start up!
If it doesn't load immediately and gives you an error like "DVD playback is not supported on this Wii" or says something like "unknown disc format" turn back to the homebrew channel menu, then load WiiMC again, wait a minute and then load again the disc. It should work
A way to see if your Wii can read DVDs on its own is to go to Wii Drives site and put the personal Wii serial number. It will analyse the serial number and will give the information you need. If it says it has a D3-2 / D4 chip that means your Wii can't play DVDs on its own and that you need an external disc reader. If it has older chips (like D2A, D2B, D2C, D2E or D3) that means the DVDs should work with WiiMC.
I wanted to say this because a few people may know that you can actually play DVDs on your Wii.
Discussion Anyway to hide Usb Loader GX loading screen?
30 Upvotes
This loading screen has been bothering me for a while now, I understand why it's there but I always prefer my modded consoles to feel like they're stock (hence why I use a forwarder for all my games). But seeing this loading screen which is also quite frankly just ugly, really bothers me
If there's a way to replace it with just a blank image so it just a black screen while the games load that'd be great
Important Discord Info r/WiiHacks Discord Compromised
WiiHacks Discord Down
The server owner of the old Discord server fell for a scam, their entire account is gone. They transferred server ownership to a new account and kicked or removed roles of all staff and admins.
The Scam
The scam is simple, you receive a DM asking about joining a modded Minecraft server. If you go along with it, you will be sent a modpack .zip file containing malware. If installed, a token stealer will take over every single account you own. The messages are then deleted so you can't report them. We recommend not interacting in DMs or downloading anything in the old server.
Working on it
Support has been contacted, but chances are pretty low of them doing anything at this point as even the owners email was thoroughly compromised.
Going Forward
I don't know what's going to happen to it next, but I would highly suggest leaving the old server. We started to lock things down, but with owner permissions, there's not much that can be done without intervention from Discord itself. As for right now, there is a new server https://discord.gg/QqQDeCXcGY
It's pretty empty, please bear with us as we set things up.
If you see any subreddit links to the old server, please let us know!
I’ve been using this USB stick in my modded Wii for around 3 or so years, but from what I recently learned, most USB sticks don’t last 3-5 years on average. So is it time to replace the stick since apparently it’s on death’s doorstep?
Discussion Trying to get physical GBA games to play on Wii
Thumbnail
video
174 Upvotes
Hello everyone! I recently acquired an Advance Game Port made by Datel. It mimics the functionality of a Gameboy player for the GameCube. I have tested this device on my GameCube and works perfectly fine (quality isn’t great, but it works) given that it uses the memory card slot of a GC as a serial port, it SD geckos its way into the GC and works. I am trying to use a similar process for the Wii.
Given that the Wii has software that blocks 3rd party discs such as the AGP and action replay (both made by Datel) I had to backdoor my way in. I homebrewed the Wii and I’m using Nintendont to bypass the Wii and load the disc. I get it to launch, however, this is where things change. Once the title screen transitions to the insert game screen, the whole screen shifts slightly to the bottom left (which it did not do on my GC). It does not read my game or respond to my controller (using a GC controller).
I have thought of 2 possibilities why I’m having issues:
1.) it’s dumb luck which units will work because it’s third party and QC is inconsistent. Causing it to just not read or potentially freeze the console.
2.) to my knowledge there are 3 versions of the AGP and I do not have the “latest” version (I am able to verify this because the latest version has a action replay built into it and upon start up gives you the option what to boot into)
Any assistance would be helpful!
Discussion Is there any way to cleanly unmount or spin down a USB hard drive before powering off the Wii?
30 Upvotes
I've noticed that when you turn off the Wii, it cuts power abruptly.
This forces the external hdd to emergency-park their heads using back-EMF power every single time the console loses power.
It feels like a massive gamble with disk longevity—not to mention it messes up SMART data and increments the load/unload cycle count on drives that are only rated for a very limited number of cycles.
Constantly forcing emergency head parks accelerates wear and tear on the actuator arm and spindle motor.
FAT32 partitions are at a much higher risk of suffering allocation table corruption when power drops instantly.
Is there any homebrew tool, setting, or method to safely unmount or spin down a USB drive before shutting the console down, or are we stuck with this behavior?
I spliced two NES classic controllers together so I could plug in two nunchucks at the same time and get inputs on both, somehow we ended up with tank controls. The exact effect seems to change every time they're unplugged and plugged back in. Having two wiimotes breaks everything and everything needs to be unplugged then plugged back in
Show-n-Tell QR Mii, Make Mii QR Codes on Your Wii!
Thumbnail
116 Upvotes
I made a Wii Homebrew app where you can create Mii QR Codes from your Wii! You can save them to your SD Card and scan them on Your 3DS WiiU or Switch 2. I think its cool because now you can send miis directly from your Wii To your Switch 2 Without an Amiibo, and share miis online. obviously you can just use check mii out channel to share miis online but this is still a cool utility.
You can just download the mii-qr zip from github under releases and put the mii-qr folder in your apps folder on your sd card.
I'll put the github link in the comments if anyone wants to try it out.
Discussion Other controllers on the Wii
22 Upvotes
As a preface I'll list the methods, that I know of, others controllers can be used on the Wii.
Fakemote converts the input from the DS3 and DS4 controllers to Wiimotes allowing them to control Wii interfaces and games, this may be done by directly connecting these controllers to the Wii USB ports, or by using a Bluetooth adapter like the MAGIC-NS.
Nintendont allows many controllers to be used to play GameCube games, this may also be done wired or wirelessly.
*For these two methods there's are very useful video guides by Below Average Gaming on YouTube.
Ninterpreter is a quite makeshift solution that converts the Nintendo Switch Pro USB-C connection to a Gamecube port on the Wii.
With Fakemote it seems plausible that you could use other controllers, besides the DS3 and DS4, to work on Wii games through some adapter that converts input to PS3 or PS4. Has anyone tried this, or achieved similar results with a different method?
I am particularly interested in a way to make controllers work as GameCube inputs on the Wii.
Discussion I NEED HELP WITH MY UNIQUE BRICK WII
1 Upvotes
ATTENTION: I need help with my BRICKED WII. So long story short, i have japanese console, which i modded an region changed to ntsc-u, and it was fine, after several attempts i also succefully installed USB Loader GX. After using this for some time i read about what you can region change your wii to output RGB signal by switching to a pal. My diy scart cable was working fine (it got red tint for ntsc because of region but it was soldered well) and after changing my region picture got correct colors but only in homebrew channel (in moment of change i use this rgb cable). After i quit channel its just got black screen and never changed after reboot and all attempts to fix this. Also my wiimote work strange because i can turn on console with this, but blue sync leds after wthi immediatly turning off and after pushing buttons just blinking and can not sync. On my screen i dont even have banner message or sound, so i guess i got very lucky got so bad brick, please help
304 Upvotes
Hello all!
Me and a few others have ported both UNDERTALE and DELTARUNE Chapter 1 to the Wii!
The ports run very well, both Undertale and Deltarune stay at a steady thirty and they are both the full, complete game, with sideways Wiimote, GameCube controller, Classic Controller, and 240p support.
You can get and play both the ports via the download on our GitHub, and you must also have a Steam copy of the games.
Undertale Wii: https://github.com/Project-Sunshine-Native/cinnamon/releases/tag/v0.9
Deltarune Wii: https://github.com/Project-Sunshine-Native/cinnamon/releases/tag/V0.9
We also have a Discord server for porting UTDR to other consoles like the Wii U, 3DS, and GameCube!
You can join in here: https://discord.gg/undertale3ds
Show-n-Tell After 10 months on and off, this project is finally back on track!
Thumbnail
76 Upvotes
10 months ago, I've posted about my SNES to GC controller I've built using a Raspberry Pi Pico (original post here) , and talked about how I wanted to make a 4P adapter. Well, turns out I'm almost there! The first version had occasional ghost input issues on the Wii and would constantly disconnect from the Switch, making it basically unusable. Now, I've fixed the timing issues so the controls are much more responsive on the Wii (no more ghost inputs), it works perfectly on the Switch as well (no more disconnects, tested on NSO SNES Classics), and theoretically supports 4 players simultaneously. I have to wire a second SNES and GC cable set so I can test multiplayer. Since I don't have 4 controllers, I won't be able to test it to its full capabilities, but the firmware and wiring instructions will go public as soon as 2P functionality is confirmed working
