X, Meta, and CCP-affiliated content is no longer permitted

49.3k Upvotes

Hello, everyone! Following recent events in social media, we are updating our content policy. The following social media sites may no longer be linked or have screenshots shared:

  • X, including content from its predecessor Twitter, because Elon Musk promotes white supremacist ideology and gave a Nazi salute during Donald Trump's inauguration
  • Any platform owned by Meta, such as Facebook and Instagram, because Mark Zuckerberg openly encourages bigotry with Meta's new content policy
  • Platforms affiliated with the CCP, such as TikTok and Rednote, because China is a hostile foreign government and these platforms constitute information warfare

This policy will ensure that r/antiwork does not host content from far-right sources. We will make sure to update this list if any other social media platforms or their owners openly embrace fascist ideology. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I’m young and fit and my body’s still aching from the worst shift I’ve worked as a nurse

I arrived at 6:45pm for my 7pm-7am shift and immediately answered 4 call lights as I couldn’t locate any CNAs. Then a family member started shouting at us at the nurses station during shift change because her husband had not been changed all day and was completely soaked, covered in BM. I’d obviously be angry too. That CNA had been there since 2pm, and admitted to me at 8:30pm she changed him at the start of her shift and that was it. I assisted with his shower since he’s a hoyer lift transfer and answered all of this CNA’s call lights while she was doing his 1.5 hour long shower, all during my already heavy med pass. Almost every patient informed me they had not been checked on all day and I assisted nearly every one.

Obviously informed the house supervisor. I don’t even want to go back to work tomorrow. My knees should not be hurting this badly at 28 years old🫠

Gen Z Got Work-Life Balance Right, and as a Gen Xer, I’m Here for It

This quote hits especially hard: "Gen Z watched all three generations exhaust themselves for diminishing returns. They saw the social contract break—parents losing jobs despite loyalty"

God Bless the young.

Gen X checking in. In the beginning of my career, I bled, sacrificed, and worked so many late hours and weekends (salaried employee), under the hopes of moving up the ladder.

Gen Z gets it. I admire their drawing boundaries and realizing so quickly what took me years to learn: your employer is not your friend, and they'll lay you off if they have a bad quarter, or a good quarter with record profits if some MBA or executive thinks it will make things look better.

I have 2 young kids at home. I have told them time and time again, "your employer is not your friend" and "work hard for yourself, but realize that companies will take advantage of you."

We haven't received our salaries for two months, and because we are not going to work, they sent this to all the shifts workers. Why? I don't know. I didn't go.

Why is every job either 20 hours a week or 50+ hours a week?

Sorry I don't post often but I'm just here to complain and rant. I always find myself in part time jobs that I like but it's only part time so I can't live on it. Then when I get a "full time" job it's always over 50 hours. I've had different experiences where I'm either getting yelled at for getting the overtime or getting yelled at for not wanting the overtime. Like I have a fucking life and I live with in my means so I don't want the fucking overtime. I just want to do my 40 fucking hours and get paid. I don't have debt, I don't have kids, I'm single, and I manage my finances well enough. I just want to go home and fucking relax. Fuck this I applied to a new job today. I try to like my jobs and make the most of it but I don't like it enough where I want to fucking live there. "What you don't like money???" Fuck you not everyone is trying to work themselves to death. I'm not a piece of shit for wanting more than 4 hours of sleep at night. Why is every job stupid like this?

There needs to be a real alternative to conventional work altogether

Capitalism got way more aggressive since the fall of the Soviet Union. This is no coincidence; Keynesian economics and FDR’s new deal were in part drafted to ensure that people didn’t get upset with the government and start a revolution to get socialism. The entire logic was that they need to stay slightly better than communism and can never let quality of life fall below that

It made me think: shouldn’t we also have an alternative to conventional workplaces?

Right now, you really have no choice but to work unless you’re already rich. However, if you’re a rank and file person, I’d argue you have literally no choice but to work, which is inherently coercive. If you don’t work, you won’t be able to afford rent or a mortgage (or property tax or anything like that). If you don’t pay for your home, you will be homeless. Homelessness inevitably leads to imprisonment, which in turn leads to forced labor

There needs to be an alternative. It’s like how when communism and capitalism coexisted, it caused capitalism to have to reign back its worst impulses so workers wouldn’t get any ideas. Why not that for work in general?

Like imagine there was an alternative option. Work could only be as bad as that alternative option, before people start moving to the alternative en masse. You wouldn’t be able to pull off 80 hour weeks and $4000 rent and slop meals, cause like… I’d rather just work somewhere where all my work goes to benefiting the community and myself. Fuck it. When you’re working like that, you don’t even feel alive anymore

I’m seeing too many PIP stories where petty managers are just using them on employees they don’t like

• Upvotes

I hate it when someone makes your life hell at a company because they dislike you over stupid shit and don’t think you’re a “good fit” somewhere.

Some managers put their employees on PIPs, leave the company “suddenly”, a new manager comes in, looks at the PIP, wonders why it even exists and then destroys it.

Seriously, cut the “I don’t like you, therefore I don’t vibe with you” crap as a reason to target people for termination. If they’re good at their jobs, leave them alone and let them work!

You honestly don’t deserve to be manager if you’re in your late 30s and still acting like you’re in high school. Grow up!

Music so bad it feels like it’s a human rights violation

The whole playlist sounds like the music they’d play for people on repeat at Guantanamo Bay. Plus often they’re covers of songs that are near and dear to my heart.

Think gym music, but somehow worse and only about 20 songs.

Both the guests and the employees (including myself) have complained about it and it has even hurt the reviews of the place.

It feels like intentional torture and I really need this job for now.

This is such a common experience I genuinely think there should be legislation against it.

Two days ago I felt like I had a really bad cold and asked my SM if I could go home. SM threatened to give me a 3day suspension if I left.  Told me it didnt matter if I felt horrible, I still had to stay.  Tested positive for covid last night and reached out to my boss today.  This was in the work gc, for context.  This was his response.  Yeah no.  I’m gonna quit and be out before December.  This is BS.

Who the f*** wants to live this like this!!

Very few jobs pay off your debt, you spent 8 years in high school and college to get nothing for it… told it’s all in your head when the gas price is 50$ for a tank and 3$ for a small bag of chips from a vending machine. You can’t afford anything out here and there won’t be a house nor an apartment in your immediate or even 5 years from now future but you must keep working that JOB!!!!

Appreciate the upvotes guys. If anyone wants to talk I’m here.

Take time off now when your healthy, don’t wait for retirement

(take time off if you can afford it or subsidize it with PTO) that being said, I wanted to share a former coworkers story

Hana, was a great man that worked his tail off and immigrated from Cairo, Egypt to find better opportunities for himself and his families. While he was serious and firm, he had a gooey heart that would show when he would crack a joke or when one of many people would stop to talk to him. He’s the type of man to make sure your day is good and always greet you. He worked for 40+ years 5/6 days a week, providing for his family and was extremely proud of his daughter going through a rigorous anesthesia program where she had recently graduated from. He would share pictures of his family and his main hobby Ocean fishing. Which was his passion that he was excited to continue when he finally could retire, family and fishing was his drive to keep working hard.

Hana Died 2 years from his retirement in silence, he was diagnosed with a cancer for a year before he passed. He told no one. He suffered in silence in hopes of overcoming his battle but sadly he didn’t. He worked 40+ years. No days off, no sick days off, vacation to Egypt maybe once every 3-4 years. He didn’t get to experience a second of retirement, not one second of a retired day with his wife or kids. Not one. He worked his whole life to retire but was sadly taken before he could enjoy the fruits of his hard and long labor.

That being said, take time off now, take care of yourself and your mental health, your physical health, your families health and wellbeing. Take a day (hopefully more) to absolutely nothing, start a new hobby, write loved ones a note filled with encouragement and love, take a walk, sit outside and look at the birds and trees sway in wind. Don’t wait till retirement, do it now.

RIP Hana.

Another story, I met a man who suffered a stroke at 65 (literally months from retirement), never got to spend a minute of a retired day. Being with his wife and daughters, son in laws, grandchildren. He’s stuck in a retirement home, coherent and frustrated he can’t spend retirement with his family and wife, having independence to do what he wants. Everyday, someone wakes him up, someone helps him get dressed and shave, (a little TMI but needs to be said to show how degrading and detrimental it is to take time off and reinforce my point) someone has to shower and change his brief Male or Female with no say as to who can do it. He’s told when and what he’s doing for therapy, trapped in a facility with no end date of when it’s over, nurses giving him mountains of pills and drinks, told he can’t go outside for extended periods of time, told he can’t do this and that without help. He spent his whole life working and paying bills, just to be teased of a retired life. A carrot on a string you just might get if peddle fast enough on the wheel, just to die without even a sample of it.

I am so tired of seeing couples, individuals busting their ass, scraping penny’s, budgeting, sacrificing for their retirement. only for it to be taken away once they get there. This system is bullshit and I’m sick of 50+ years of bloodsucking, demeaning and painstaking “work and careers” only to get 10-20 years of “freedom” when your at your physically weakest point in your life.

Please, be selfish and take time off. You deserve it and may have to work till you die, even die on the clock. Take. Time. Off.
