I just installed bspwm a few days ago and I love it, but sometimes my touchpad just doesn't work. Each boot it seems random (although I tend to have a streak of boots with a functioning touchpad and streaks without). The trackpoint works fine 100% of the time. I'm using FreeBSD 15.1 on a ThinkPad T14 Gen1. I have libinput installed and up to date. Thank you soooo much to anyone that can help

I built Sliverbar as a compact native C17 panel for X11. This one-minute video shows its launcher, workspace state, timer, native weather forecast, saved Wi-Fi menu, brightness and volume controls, and power menu - without narration. Repository: https://github.com/thomastuul/sliverbar. It is GPL-3.0 licensed. Feedback on usability, compatibility and missing panel features is very welcome. Wallpaper: Water Drops by Michael Kuhn (kuhnmi), CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons; cropped, resized and color-graded.

I have tried both Polybar and Lemonbar. Polybar is very easy to set up, but it did not fully meet my requirements. Lemonbar, on the other hand, contains no logic of its own, so with enough effort it can be adapted entirely to your individual needs.
That led me to develop my own panel, sliverbar. If you are going to invest the effort anyway, why not build your own panel that does exactly what you want?
Anyone interested in using it can find it on GitHub. It is licensed under the GPLv3 and, like most Linux applications, is free software.
I would be pleased if you visited the project:

The panel is a new development called “Sliverbar”; see https://github.com/thomastuul/sliverbar

I'm trying to run a Kitty terminal with cava as a desktop background. I need this window to be completely fixed — it should not be resizable, and it should not change its state.
Here's what I have in my bspwmrc:
bspc config focus_new_window false
bspc config ignore_ewmh_focus true
bspc rule -a '*' desktop=work follow=on
bspc rule -a cava_left desktop=main state=floating layer=below private=on follow=off focus=off locked=on border=off rectangle=1920x350+0+730
bspc rule -a cava_right desktop=misc state=floating layer=below private=on follow=off focus=off locked=on border=off rectangle=1920x350+0+730
bspc rule -a kitty desktop=term
but this rules not working
Thanks in advance!

Hey, hope you are doing well.
Actually I have a silli question but it means a lot for me. in the journey of Ricing a linux window manager or DE where do you look for color schemes?
I mean I can use pre build things like catputtchin, gruvbox evergreen and so on but I want to make some which is apart from this also I can use matugen or any other packet which can extract colors from a picture but I also don't want it
I just want to go from scratch soo could you help me to find a website or blog maybe video tutorial or anything which shows something about the color combinations?
I hope you understand my English is not so good but I tried what I can also thank you for your time
I will wait for your answer...
Bye have a good day ❤️

Hello guys. I have added 3 additional layouts on top of bspwm. Renamed it to nex. And here is this workflow.
Might be slow in a 2gb ddr2 ram with screen recorder on. Else it is fast. Consumes 440 - 543 Mb RAM at startup, slowing increasing and stabilising somewhere near 600Mib. CPU @ idle is 10% (mine is very old, yours may be even less)
Current layouts :
- binary (bsp) (scheme : alternate, spiral, longest side)
- monocle
- tall (variants normal, reversed)
- wide (variants normal, reversed)
- grid
Any suggestions?

Hello guys. I created a window manager based on bspwm, which you can call it an extension. Previously, it had tiled and monocle layouts, I extended to include wide and tall, renamed tiled to binary layout.
I am planning to do a major refactor on the entire codebase (of bspwm -> nex). Give your suggestions, on what to add, how, etc.
Definitely -> the code base was hard to understand with functions spread across many files. So I used claude to help me understand what every function does. But still, I was unable to grasp.
I am going to write it from scratch. With inline comments and documentation. There will be no AI used in this rewrite I am gonna do.
If you people are interested, tell me what name I can give it. Also currently we are using sxhkd for keybindings. Standalone unlike other WMs. I am planning to integrate it into the wm itself with some command syntax like this :
`ipc keybindings [super + alt + c + h] { shell commands seperated by ;}`
Something like this.

This is new pomodoro module I made for polybar in C. Uses unix socket for communication - pomod is the daemon, pomoc is the client. Have two bash scripts to integrate into polybar like this.
Repo : https://github.com/cobra-r9/pomoc
Would like people to try and tell their experience. Any suggestions on what to improve it on?

Hello everyone. I want to use bspwm. But I’m looking for a good rice and dotfile. However, I can’t seem to find any. Do you have any rice or dotfiles you could recommend? Could you help me with this?

I wish someone can join me. Try this shell?
r/bspwm • u/rudv-ar • May 15 '26
Here it is. From my previous post.

Hello guys, successfully I have ported "some" looks of caelestia combined with end 4 to my x11 shell. I named it aevum shell (previously it ws rudv-shell, now migrated to this new repo). It would be better if someone is able to join me in creating this. I first tested it in bspwm and works pretty well.
Here is the link to the repo : https://github.com/rudv-ar/aevum-shell.git
I will be adding the images ASAP.
