Dell Vostro 3520 running Debian 13: Looking for fixes for deep sleep, touchpad, and keyboard quirks
I installed Debian on Dell Vostro 3520 as dual boot along with Windows 10 may be an year ago. Now it has becane my primary OS, logining to Windows may be once a month. I love it except for two reasons:
- If laptop goes to deep sleep (while on battery) it never wakes up. I have to press power button for close to 1 minute to hard reset it.
- Mouse left click stops working all of a sudden and works fine on next boot. Sometimes auto scroll kicks in without my intervenion and that is annoying.
- Keyboard sometimes registers multiple keys with a single key press.
Have tried a number of solutions and monitoring tools to diagnose keyboard and mouse issue to no avail.
Fiddled with BIOS power settings to resolve deep sleep issue but no relief.
Perhaps I have to live forever with these ailments. Would be thankful if solutions are pointed out.
Here are details of my system:
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie)
Kernel: Linux 6.12.111+deb13-amd64
Architecture: x86-64
Hardware Vendor: Dell Vostro 3520
Firmware Version: 1.42.0

Double check that swap is set up correctly for deep sleep. What desktop are you using? That may give a clue on the input issues. I would not mess with the kernel yet.

I'd test one older kernel before touching the touchpad settings; if deep sleep changes, it's probably a kernel regression rather than the BIOS.
