Depends on what you are looking for.

If you want Excessive telemetry, built in crypto wallet, ad replacement, user facing link obfuscation, affiliate link injection, BAT crypto shenanigans and built in subscription services then use Brave.

If you want a web browser use Firefox.

All that can be disabled though

Why disable bloat when you can just use a browser that doesn't come with it in the first place?

That's a fair point, just a correction since you made it sound like you get a bad browser when its a good web browser when you disable some settings.

Use what you want.

The point is, do you trust a company that tried to pull numerous shenanigans, got caught, and had public pressure to roll back these "features"? The CEO is an absolute asshat as well.

If you don't care about any of that, and only care about the current state of the browser, then the choice simply becomes chromium vs firefox. To me the choice is rather simple. At the end of the day, I just need software to serve me web pages...

I don't really keep up what a company behind a browser do, I just, you know, use it. If it has something that bothers me I just move on to a different one.

For one, brave verifiably has zero telemetry. Every point against brave is either a lie or exaggeration. For the other, firefox is an unsafe mess of a browser, especially on linux and android. Also watch out so that firefox doesn't install you extensions without user consent like they did last time with the mr robot extension scandal.

Anyways, read rknf404's browsers guide.

Firefox is inherently insecure. This is especially true on Linux where the sandboxing is very poor, and Android where there is no website sandbox at all. The current Android implementation of the Firefox sandbox (Fission) is very weak (was recently enabled by default in v147), out of the box it does not use Android's isolatedProcess flag, which ensures that subprocesses are properly isolated and cannot trivially escalate privilege within the application.

GrapheneOS devs:

Avoid Gecko-based browsers like Firefox as they're currently much more vulnerable to exploitation and inherently add a huge amount of attack surface. Gecko doesn't have a WebView implementation (GeckoView is not a WebView implementation), so it has to be used alongside the Chromium-based WebView rather than instead of Chromium, which means having the remote attack surface of two separate browser engines instead of only one. Firefox/Gecko also bypass or cripple a fair bit of the upstream and GrapheneOS hardening work for apps. Worst of all, Firefox does not have internal sandboxing on Android.

Firefox is always the answer when compared to Brave.

FF. Make sure to install their repos, too, for the latest build.

Not the biggest fan of mozilla these days but they are 1000x better than brave.

Why does OS matter for selecting a browser?

I like both but FF is there out of the box.

I use Brave.
Brave has containers now. This makes it unbeatable.
