Giving away surplus milk and water kefir grains (Location: Kothamangalam, Kerala)

Hey guys,

I have extra milk kefir and water kefir grains at home that are growing fast. Instead of throwing them out, wanted to see if anyone around Kothamangalam or nearby areas wants some to start brewing.

Giving them away for free. If you want some:

  • Bring a small clean glass bottle/jar.
  • Bring a little milk (for milk kefir) or sugar water (for water kefir) to carry them home safely.

Pickup will be near Kothamangalam town (we can coordinate a public spot). Comment here if you're interested and I'll reach out.

ah man if i was anywhere near kerala id jump on this in a heartbeat. my milk kefir grains went nuclear a few years back and i ended up giving fistfuls to the barista at my local coffee shop. she started making kefir smoothies for the staff and now half the neighborhood has a jar bubbling on their counter

water kefir is so underrated too. people get obsessed with kombucha and forget about the fizzy little sibling that takes like two days and tastes great with just a splash of fruit juice

hope you find someone close by. kerala fermentation crew represent

I'm new to this and just started experimenting with milk and water kefir. Water kefir grains are simply multiplying. That's why I posted. Hoping for someone's DM 😅

How you manage to grow the grains? Mine one are not growning at all. Instead of growing, they are breaking apart in small chunks. Though Ferment Smell awesome sweet.

I only bought my water kefir grains a week ago (50g). From the first batch itself water kefir grains started to multiply. Yesterday I strained my 4th batch and when I scaled it it was around 190g. I'm not using any jaggery, Shop suggested to use "Organic Tattva Brown Sugar 1kg" which you can get from amazon or some supermarket. The shop which I bought water kefir grains recommended to use 1 litre of water with 50g of grains with 50 grams of brown sugar. So I'm maintaining that only. I moved the rest of the grains to a small plastic container with some sugar and water, kept in freezer (suggested by the same shop).

Milk kefir won't multiply in this pace. After around 10 batches only it started to grow. But the growth is very slow. But still multiplying
