Bread/Rice/Corn/Oats/Barley Day 2 of sourdough starter

Post image

This is my first time starting a sourdough starter, I don't really like sourdough but I do like how universal the starter is and I also wanna prove that I can make one

I started off with way too much starter and wasted it unfortunately 😭, but I kept 64g to start off with.

Good luck! What kind of flour are you using?

It can work with all-purpose, it just takes more time and more diligence! It definitely doesn't have as much natural yeast as whole wheat flour, or as much protein as bread flour though. You might not notice any activity until day 8 or 10 even.

Yes, especially if using all-purpose flour. It is less forgiving in terms of growing mold more quickly if you forget about it than if using whole wheat or bread flour.

The jar's looking a little lonely in there with just that bit at the bottom, but that'll change fast once it gets going. I respect the "prove I can do it" motivation, that's how half my kitchen experiments start.

Yeah that's what motivates me to step out of my comfort zone, also I think i don't like store bought sourdough so that's why I'm trying it

Pro tip: if you take a little piece of sourdough bread and soak it in water for a day, then start a starter with that water.. it will be ready in a couple days instead of a week +
