Discussion Loose, CIB, CIB+ or Sealed. How do you collect?
I prefer CIB+, but will buy a sealed copy if the price isn't much higher than a pristine copy that comes with all the inserts.

How is CIB+ different from CIB?

Case/box, manual, and game is enough for CIB for most people’s purposes. CIB+ means all inserts included. Registration card, promotional material, map(s), etc

So what people are calling complete isn’t necessarily that? That’s called “includes box and instructions”. If it ain’t got the obi or registration card then it isn’t complete

CIB is just recognised as manual + whatever actual gaming extras came with it. Not a bullshit generic Nintendo booklet or whatever. The shit that actually mattered for the game and was there across multiple print runs.

I disagree and won’t be using the term CIB+ as it’s redundant. To me that’s like calling the GameStop display copy that some employee took home with the big sticker on it instead of the shrink “new” but calling actual sealed games “new+”. If you’re referring to that copy of Alundra as Complete in Box but it doesn’t include the map, you’re lying.

I might be going insane but it sounds like you’re arguing with me but you are agreeing with me?

I don’t think so. I’m saying if you’re selling a GBA game as CIB but you don’t have the generic consumer safety booklet, you shouldn’t call it “complete” even if it’s a generic insert. Throw in a generic insert from another game but it’s identical? That’s complete. The thing was replaced. And no, we’re not counting the shrink or security labels as part of “complete” because collectors don’t really care about that but hype stickers? Absolutely. I’m sure I’m yelling at clouds here but I don’t like calling something complete if it’s conspicuously missing something

Loose for my Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, & N64. I plan to do loose when I get in to Super Nintendo & games. I've done CIB for Nintendo DS, 3DS, PS4, PS5, Switch, & Switch 2.
Those old CIB are just way too expensive also I enjoy the 3rd party vhs/cassette cases I found on Etsy for the old Nintendo games

If its cartridge then loose. I often go for the strategy guide.
Disc then CIB is a must, I don’t care about registrations cards, but I do want a clean copy if I can. Strategy guide?
Sealed games I don’t seek, but will sometime happen upon.
Strategy guides. 👍

Depends on platform.
I don't care much about cardboard boxes, they were often tossed away and the games they came with are mostly robust cartridges that I find satisfaction in collecting as loose carts.
I do however want covers for disk based platforms as the disks needs the protection. I also want covers for systems with small carts, like DS/3DS/Switch. The cases are compact as well, so more people kept hem, and when you have the cover you kind of want the manual as well.

CIB, CIB+ when possible. That said I’m fine with building up from loose, game & box, etc.

Collecting loose work only on N64 and older , PS1 and saturn and beyond loose collection is just ugly

Game, box and manual. If the insert is cool like a poster or a note like the Mike Tyson or startropics, I’ll put the effort(money) into getting it. Registration cards and Nintendo power insert, I could care less.

Disc based games, pretty much complete in case, needs the manual but I'm not fussed about warranty cards or things like that. For cartridge games that had cardboard boxes (e.g. SNES, N64), I'm cartridge only. Life's too short and space is too tight to keep boxes. I don't collect PC games.

If I can get CIB+ then I'm going with that, but otherwise CIB is my way to go. I don't like loose, and I want to play the games so I don't care about sealed

CIB GBA and sealed Switch. I had other smaller collections that I decided to sell to focus on the Switch.

Typically, loose for cartridges and CIB for discs.
Cost is my biggest factor, though. I got more CIB games for N64 over ten years ago when it costed only $10 extra for a box and manual for some games. I also picked up Skies of Arcadia and Marvel vs Capcom 2 for Dreamcast for about $40 each when both are easily $100+ CIB.

For disc based games I always look for CIB+.
For cartridge based games I always get them loose, but if CIB is not that much more expensive I would go for that. I think at some point I might get repro boxes for a few cartridges I’d want to display, but I honestly don’t know where to find good quality ones.
I only ever get sealed if it’s a good deal and it’s something I think is cool/worth displaying.
I have MGS4 PS3 sealed and the PS2 GTA trilogy sealed.

CiB, and not very picky about condition. Sealed is great, but I enjoy checking the manuals every now and then. Relics of a past.

CIB and if a sealed comes up at a good price I’ll pick it up but I’ll never own a sealed game without owning the unsealed version too. Anyone that “collects” exclusively sealed is not a collector they’re an investor.

Pretty frequently it's disc only, or game and case without manual. One of the best things about the collector market going nuts is that people pay insane prices for the plastic and cardboard while the discs and cartridges that contain the game I want to play cost a fraction. This is the most gaming and collecting I've done in years. Also, all those greatest hits copies of games collectors skip are great to snatch up. Someone not liking Red or green on the collection shelf has hooked me up.
