Question/Help How would I know if there's a game on this development console? RVT-005
Just need help to see if there's any sort of data on this console. I'm not sure how it works or if there's a way to dump whatever is on here.

You should reach out to the Game Preservation Society or similar before doing anything, ask for guidance. You have a piece of history right there.

There's almost definitely something on this system unless it was wiped. Crave released so many random Wii games some of them might've been cancelled and only exist on your console

If it is games that got canceled it's either gonna be poker or pool lol

The lost media bros will get hyped about a 3 second cut of a cancelled Spongebob stage play from a Nickelodeon commercial. Don't underestimate people being hyped about anything obscure

Also to note.
- This is not my system, it belongs to a game store I work at.
- There is no SD card, but from what I'm reading it has a internal drive.
- My boss doesn't want me modding the system. Is there a way to dump without modding?
Thank you all for the recommendations on what to do, I will do more research.

Why don’t you buy it if your boss doesn’t want you modding it?

Nintendo silenced them for thinking about potentially extracting a cancelled game

So youre going to take it from your game store, move to Monaco, change your name and enjoy your new life with your Devkit Wii

They give game dev pre-production models before release so they can launch with games. Otherwise they’d only have Mario Kart and maybe Zelda at launch.
Given that it says it belongs to Crave, it’s probably a pre-release dev kit.

Im willing to bet dev consoles are effectively already modded. That said as others are saying there actual experts you should consult here. Possibly even help with the financial aspect of just buying it from the shop. Then boss is out of the picture (or just do it anyways if you can sneak around him. Depends how bad you need the job ig could be real history here.

Hook it up without internet - just video, power, and controller. If it’s not already locked/deactivated, likely boots into a developer home screen with a bunch of settings. I’d expect somewhere would list any installed packages.
Also possible it’s configured to boot into retail mode, in which case you just get the normal OS and can look for installed games there.
Third option is it’s locked, and you’d need more sophisticated approach. But booting it up costa nothin.
*gamedev who’s used other devkits, but not nintendo

Holy... This takes me back. I worked at Crave Games as QA Tester when they shut their doors. I bet anything there is a few games on it that we worked on. (I dont ever remember wiping them)
From what I remember on the Switch we had:
Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion - Cartoon Network Smash Bros
Man Vs Wild (I believe)
Deadliest Catch (Also I believe)
Some Karaoke game, Maybe something called Sing
That's all I really remember though, I also worked on PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS games.

TALK TO AN EXPERT!! DONT DO ANYTHING YOURSELF.
Also, please for the love of god, do not listen to any armchair enthusiasts. They don't know their way out of their own ass.

Super neat. Would talk to the professionals, that genuinely could have a lot of unique history in it.

i had a RVT-H briefly a few years ago. There is something calle rvthtools on github, you plug the console in via the mini usb to a PC, use the tool and it will dump all the data.

There are multiple options:
Boot it up, check all "disk" ports and then use the built-in tools to dump everything on an external drive.
Take out the drive and from there you simply need to handle it like a regular Wii drive.
If there is anything interesting on there I highly recommend contacting various preservation structures and uploading the data anonymously left and right.
