How to Randomize & Revise Shiny Rates for Pokemon 3DS HARDWARE

Things you need,

Physical Modded 3DS
Any Physical 3DS Pokemon Game Cartridge
USB MicroSD Reader

Programs you need,

Universal Pokemon Randomizer
PK3DS

Notes: This was a ton trial and error, and was the only possible way I found that had absolutely 0 issues, 0 errors. I have no idea if this works on installed versions of the game, I’ve only tested it on physical cartridges. In theory it should work for installed versions but with different steps, which I won’t go into, however feel free to try and let me know.

1 - Enable Patching on Luma3DS.

2 - Put the Pokemon Game Cartridge into the 3DS.

Dump Card to .3ds with GM9
Home -> Scripts -> GM9Megascript -> Miscellaneous-> Cartridge Options -> Dump Cart to .3DS & Decrypt.

(DECRYPTING ON GM9 WILL SAVE A LOT OF TIME, REQUIRED. IF YOU SKIP, YOU MUST DECRYPT IT ON PC)

3 - Take out your microsd and put it into your pc, access your gm9 folder -> out folder -> .3DS Decrypted Pokemon Game , copy that to your desktop for easy access.

4 - Create 2 folders, name one for Pokemon Universal Randomizer & one for PK3DS.

5 - Open the Universal Randomizer, randomize the .3DS Pokemon Game and choose all of your options on here as you want. Export it as LayeredFS and put it into the previous folder you made for the Universal Randomizer.

It will create another folder inside with the game title id, opening that will also show your romfs folder and code.bin .

6 - Open PK3DS , now extract the .3DS Pokemon Game and put it into the PK3DS folder (from step 4). In the folder, the only thing you need to pay attention to is, the exefs folder.

7 - Here’s where things might get confusing so be sure to read carefully. Close all the programs, as to not confuse you.

Open the Pokemon Universal Randomizer Folder, find and rename the code.bin to .code.bin , yes add the extra . , now copy that and go into the PK3DS folder -> exefs folder and paste it there.

8 - Open the PK3DS program, you’ll click File -> Open -> and it should automatically go to where you previously extracted, -> Select Folder

This is important, ONLY revise the shiny rate, which is in the ExeFS Category, under Shiny Rate, put it to your desired rate, and save. DO NOT REVISE ANYTHING ELSE as this part is only for shiny rate revising, not randomizing.

9 - As again, read carefully, you will now go into the PK3DS folder -> exefs folder -> rename .code.bin to code.bin , yes remove the first . , and now copy & paste that into the Pokemon Universal Randomizer folder, directly inside the game title id folder, fully overwriting the old one.

10 - You’re almost done, go to the Pokemon Universal Randomizer folder now copy the game title id folder into your microsd card, Luma Folder -> Titles , make sure It’s in the Titles folder.

example title folder named 0004000000055D00 , yours might be similar.

11 - Put your microsd back into your 3DS, boot it and make sure to delete update data, DO NOT UPDATE the game, causes it to crash/fail.

You can delete update data in settings -> data management -> Nintendo3DS -> Downloadable Content -> Pokemon Game you randomized and delete data.

12 - DONE , If you have save data, you should probably restart the game, I don’t think it will work / may cause bugs. Eveything should work, now you have custom shiny rates, with full randomization.

This is for people who want to play on actual physical hardware, an actual 3DS not for emulators.

Hopefully this worked for you, as I had so many problems with trying different methods. Especially just only using PK3DS would cause freezing, won’t save, or I wouldn’t be able to access home button / crash completely, or trainer randomization wouldn’t work at all but shiny rate would, very annoying stuff.

This would definitely be easier if PK3DS was optimized correctly, or if they added shiny rate revision to Universal Randomizer.
