Hi!
I really love this pattern from Alice starmore, really love the details at the shoulders and chest I would really love to learn more about this knitting style (?) are there any disgners that designed something similar? What is this type of sweater called? Is it something regional?
Thank you already! (It can be cardigans/sweaters/tees.. whatever you wear on the upper body!)this one

I don't think anyone did a Tudor collection except Alice Starmore. But if you like other designs by Alice Starmore, Marie Wallin has a somewhat similar style and beautiful colorwork designs.

Hello! I found this pattern on Ravelry and I fell in love with it! It would be perfect for this yarn I have. Unfortunately the creator is no longer selling it and I cant find it anywhere. Does anyone know of another pattern that is similar? The yarn I have is variegated and I'm looking for something that would be simple with the different colors! Thank you!

I think these are similar:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/squash-blossom-shawl
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/berkeley-ca-shawl
the stitch pattern might be razor shell.

I would make a swatch first, to see how the colors interact. You could go from there, maybe using a neutral color yarn as a base for stripes or other colorwork.

Looking for a pattern for chunky sweater with a big stripe of heart cabling down the middle… I feel like because this cable pattern is so cute and has been around for ages someone must have put it on a sweater but everything I am finding has kind of ai vibes :/ I might try to figure out my own pattern but would also much prefer to use one done by a more experienced person!!

It's not a "neck construction" per se; it is built by knitting the sleeves sideways, separately, with no neck shaping, and then partially sewing the edge together, leaving the hole for the head. The unshaped edges have nowhere to go, but up the neck.
You can test it on a scarf, if you have a wide and soft one.
The whole garment looks like it consists of two rectangles, judiciously sewn together.

Does anyone know where I can get a pattern for a sweater like this?
I know it seems like its only a cable knit but I've checked and there seems to be a square pattern underneath? Unless its just caused by the yarn type. I bought cashmere yarn in pink.
But I actually can't find a pattern that's smiliar to that sweater. (Also, I like veing very accurate to the inspiration hence why Im asking 😊)

u/ghastlycupcake 19h ago
Ok, here's what I could find. I don't know which aspects are the ones that inspire you, and which don't really matter, so I'm just guessing. Sorry this is so long!
I'd start off with a drop-shoulder, v-neck, cabled pullover. For the type of fit shown in your reference, you'd want a good amount of positive ease, and a fabric that drapes well. Take your time swatching and block your swatches - different cable patterns can vary wildly in how much they pull the fabric inward, and blocking might make a huge difference as well. It's hard to guess gauge from such a small photo, but you may have the best results in achieving this type of fabric with a finer gauge yarn, I'm guessing fingering or sport weight, knit on needles that are at the larger end of the recommended sizes. (You don't want loose and lacey, but relaxed enough that your cables will drape instead of being more solid.) I also really can't see the texture, but it looks like it miiiight have a bit of a fuzzy halo, so perhaps you'll want some amount of mohair or something.
A couple of patterns that could be good starting points:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lauder (DK, 500+ projects)
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sandro-pullover-v-neck (DK, 40+ projects)
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sterling-5 (sport, only 2 projects)
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/herringbone-classic-sweater (this one's fingering with a lot of drape, but it's only been knit a couple of times)
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pansy-32 (also fingering, but also very few projects)
A free option: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/our-guys-sailing-sweaters (sport, 5 projects)
Overlapping v-neck detail: I didn't know how to effectively search for v-necks where the neckband crosses over like in your photo, so I only found a few. There are a lot more options if you are ok with the bottom of the v being flat/the two ends of the neckband being joined parallel, but if you want the V to have a point like in your photo, where the ends of the neckband overlap perpendicularly, it's slim pickings.
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/compton-3 (Aran, 4 projects)
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fionn (Worsted, 6 projects)
Reddit thread discussing this overlapping v-neck style: https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/comments/1veztan/help_modifying_a_normal_folded_v_neck_to_this/ (Someone is looking for info, but there's not a ton of actual information here. There's a link to a similar thread, but it's just about how to sew the ends down for this pattern:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/declare-pullover (Sport, 9 projects, no cables, mostly plain stockinette with some lace details)
Hope some part of this helps!

Here is a ravelry search with all the correct attributes, though I doubt one has the exact cable pattern this one does.
Something with all-over cables already, like this one would be the easiest to adapt to this specific cable pattern if you want that specifically. It looks to be 2x2 or 3x3 left crossing cables with 2 stitch sections of reverse Stockinette between. The stitch dictionary post you sent looks like a 2x2 right crossing cable with 4 stitch sections of reverse Stockinette between.
The square type effect you’re seeing is likely an artifact of that sweater being machine knit with thinner cotton yarn, which makes everything lay much flatter than hand knit cables with something like wool.

Is knitting something like this possible? I'm getting into knitting soon and saw this on Pinterest. Would I have to use intarsia?

Hi, I'm currenly making winter suits for our kids and want to knit the cuffs in a pattern that stays flexible. Last years suits I knit k2/p2 cuffs and k2tbl/p2 on the other suit, but they didn't really bounce back after a few times of wearing - any suggestions to keep them bouncy? Wool used is a 80/20 alpaca/wool mix

Hi! Does anyone know what this stitch is, or how to recreate it? I’ve searched online but haven’t found anything similar yet ☺️
This is the closest I’ve managed so far: YO, slip 1 , K1, cross the slipped stitch over the K1 and place it back on the left needle, knit it, then pass the YO over. It gives a similar crossed/looped effect, but I don’t think I’ve quite cracked the original stitch yet 😅

My parents brought me 10 skeins of Sandnes Garn Sunday yarn from Sweden. I want to knit a cable cardigan but I can’t find any that are the right gauge on Ravelry. Does anyone have any patterns to recommend?

There are quite a few to choose from, even if some are not really high neck. People mistag things all the time in hope of greater visibility.

Any suggestions for a geometric stranded colourwork motif for a low contrast pairing (a magenta yarn and a variegated purple-blue-magenta yarn)?
I'm making a Musselburgh hat and one side will be a 2x2 checkerboard pattern, so looking for something similar for the other side. I think something small and geometric will work better than anything graphic or large.
1
u/bluehexx 3d ago
Maybe diagonal stripes? They would create a sort of a swirl around the head and go well with the checkered brim.

Hi! I'm not sure if there is a name for this technique, where you do decorative i cords on top of a garmet. Is this wip-stitched on or sewn on, what are the techniques? are there any tutorials? I'm an intermediate knitter trying to make garmets with a little more interesting detail or technique. I've done i cord tube/strings and edges, but not sure what this is called. I've attached a picture of a sweater I liked for reference, of something I would like to emulate.
what is the best technique for getting a knit pattern on top of my garmet, that is 3 dimensional rather than colorwork?
Thanks for your help :)

u/trillion4242 4d ago
I think it's just sewn on, sort of like the edgings here - https://knittingmachinepatterns.com/caydo-electric-i-cord-machine/
you could use embroidery - https://kelbournewoolens.com/blogs/blog/tips-and-tricks-embroidering-on-knitting
or surface crochet - https://verypink.com/2017/01/11/crocheted-surface-stitch/

Does anyone know where I can find the pattern Cerulean by Kim Hargreaves? Was it only published in that one issue of a magazine? It's out of print and I haven't been able to find a pdf.
2
u/bluehexx 4d ago
Is there a reason you set your heart on this particular pattern? And are you sure the reason is not pretty photowork and styling?
I'm saying that because photo styling can often trick our eyes away from basic facts. What I mean is that construction of that jumper is very generic and even a quick search yields half a dozen good (and easily available) substitutes, some of them free - maybe you'd like to consider one of these?
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/davis-2
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/boxy-jumper
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/paysage
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/isham-road
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/160-5-perly-may (the actual pattern is here: https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=6940&cid=19)
All those are essentially the same sweater.
