I’ve been thinking about how to reblock a kinda felted hat omg you’ve saved me. Beautiful yarn choice too omg combined with your tension and pattern it’s so pretty

aww thank you so much you’re too kind! and yea, blocking over a bowl is odd but it lowkey works too well (the yarn is ellie k’s mohair if you’re interested, they have so many gorgeous colours)

"Reblocking" does not reverse felting unfortunately. You can try stretching it out a bit but it will always be felted.

Sorry to be the Party pooper but you twist your stitches every other row. Twistfaq

u/somechickenboy 1d ago
i purposefully did that here thanks 😛 but i appreciate the attention to detail

Why would you purposefully twist stitches every other row? That usually happens when someone wraps either knits or purls the other way and doesn't untwist when working flat.

i liked the way it looked with the texture, colour, and pattern. i’m sure it’s not for everyone, but i enjoy the way it looks that way! thanks for the feedback, though.

i like the texture it made as well! it’s fun to see how twisted stitches can affect the look of a knit fabric

Just to be sure you don't misunderstand what I mean: you did it on purpose on the white part at the bottom as well?

u/somechickenboy 1d ago
yea it had to match, it’s technically supposed to be the same colour all over but i wanted to use cotton for those parts, so. but yes! it doesn’t look exactly the same but i tried lol

So to be clear - you made something lovely, altered the technique to suit your taste and you don’t think you’re talented? Chickenboy, here is your knitting trophy 🏆

You mentioned that word!: lots of people want to know about twisted stitches and here is a great post for reference https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/comments/188kxwk/new_knitters_your_stitches_are_probably_twisted/

Were not talented, weve just practiced for a lot longer.
Some have the perk of seeing pictures in their minds to aid with imagining eg color choices or modifications. Some are good at understanding the 3d space and how to manipulate the yarn for different techniques.
Some dont. Its not a talent thing. And its not a pre-recuisite. Just a bonus.

ARE BONNETS HAVING A COMEBACK?!?! FINALLY!
This is beautiful and your blocking method worked with the things you had. I do it the exact same way.

I hope so. I think people putting bows on themselves is them showing that they are a gift to this world.

I made the Balabonnet last spring and I’ve been patiently waiting for it to get cold enough to wear it!

They were never gone just more popular in the black community now...

I know about silk bonnets for sleeping popular in the black community, I did not know it was also knitted woolen bonnets.

We do not compare talent over here ❤️ we all started somewhere! And I think your bonnet looks very good! Don't doubt yourself ❤️

Downplaying obviously good work makes actual beginners feel worse about theirs.

i’m so sorry that was not my intention 🥲 as a fellow beginner that was evil of me

No one is as talented as everybody else, friend! We all have our strengths and weaknesses, our skills which have been finely honed, and skills that still need work (or not, if they're not a priority)
You did beautiful work and we celebrate with you, just like you celebrate our work with us!

Shut up, this is beautiful. There's always someone better than you in a world where everyone is connected, but that does not mean in any way that you're untalented. I've been more proud of worse work, so give yourself a bit more credit

You’re just as talented as you need to be! Finishing a project is a mystery to me, so you managing to do that at least is impressive in my eyes! stares at two half-finished abandoned sweaters

It looks awesome!
Not that you asked, but I've used a blown up balloon to block a hat, it would probably work for a bonnet also.

When I tried making a bonnet I couldn't make sense of the instructions and they were bought from a reputable seller/designer.
You're miles ahead of me me and probably a lot of other people.
