Finished Object Slowly growing my husband’s knitted vest collection

I knitted PetiteKnit’s Novice Slipover for my husband and he loved it so much that I’ve made him two more! He wears them so often that our friends jokingly ask if he owns any other clothes.

Pics 1-2: knitted in KFO merino held double in Dusty Sea Green. Followed the pattern but made some small modifications to widen the neck and make the arm holes deeper.

Pics 3-4: knitted in Ginger Twist Studio Sweet Flax in Hocus Pocus, held double. Picked up this hand-dyed yarn when I was in Scotland and it’s soooo luxurious. Baby alpaca, silk, and linen - the drape on this is beautiful, I wish I’d picked up some yarn for myself! Followed the same modifications as above but deepened the arm holes even more to compensate for less elasticity in the fiber.

Pics 5-7: knitted in KFO merino held double in Dark Ochre. No modifications. Finished this while on holiday in Czechia…if I had a dollar for every time I’ve blocked a project in a hotel sink….

I mean, with those arms should he even ever wear anything else 😋🥵😱 (being overt here but c’mon you can’t post pics like this and expect propriety).

You did an AMAZING job-they fit him so perfectly!!!!! How does he feel about a woolen sleeveless knits in terms of heat? I mean he wears them so it must be not big deal but nice been toying with the idea of knitting a vest lately but wondering how that works, as I, too, want to wear it like he is-nothing under. Although I may need to tune my arms up 😗

Gorgeous work! Now I want to make this pattern.

😂 He really likes them! He says the dark blue one knit in the linen/silk blend is noticeably lighter and breathes better, but doesn’t have any complaints about the merino ones - they still breathe nicely and don’t show sweat on the super hot days! You should totally make one (or three)!

I'm in healthcare and I was like, "man those are some great veins" so I completely understand the divided attention on this post 😅

Thank you! That yarn is SO beautiful, especially when it catches the light, and was so fun to knit with! Plus holding it double helped hide the variation between skeins so I didn’t need to alternate rows. I’m going to have to fly back for more!

I reallllly want my husband to wear sweater vests. Was yours already willing? Mine says he feels like Mr. Rogers in them.

8

u/aybrah 9h ago

Hahaha unfortunately mine was already excited to wear them. He saw someone online styling it and wanted to give it a try—and I said wait, I can make it! Just hang tight for a few months! Maybe find some folks online who have made it look good, spark some inspo??

FWIW my husband says that he thinks the key to avoiding Mr. Rogers is in the styling. Cool pants, shoes, accessories. I think it’s all in the drape and design of the vest: thinner lighter yarns that give a nice fabric, a good fit on it, looser armholes/neckline. If it were a thick rustic woolen vest with a tight neck, it would read more Mr. Rogers-y!
