1 week clean from 98% THC carts!

Okay I know it is only one week but I feel pretty proud of myself! This week was SO hard with the withdrawal symptoms. I didn’t even sleep at all the first three days and had a complete mental breakdown on the fourth day. Going through 98% THC carts every week since I was 19 (sometimes I wouldn’t even last the week) and i’m 23 now. Stopping had a way bigger impact on my body than I thought, the withdrawal symptoms hit me like a fucking freight train (nausea and insomnia being the worst)

But I made it! I stopped before because of surgery (you can see a post about this on my profile too !) for about 4 months but relapsed at a party around last February. This time I feel different because I stopped on my own accord, I wasn’t “forced” to.
Still sweating a lot here and there and having the vivid dreams but last night, I actually felt tired NATURALLY and I woke up…not feeling tired!

I’m feeling things again, starting to (slowly but surely) get back into hobbies I liked before. The depression is still there but I don’t feel like a zombie and I’m gonna take it lol

Could not have done it without this subreddit. The first few days I would read through every 15 minutes and was astounded that people said they felt better being sober. I just couldn’t believe it but now I am starting to understand. I’m in therapy to work through the depression and my severe PTSD that I have been using the weed to medicate. It’s not easy but any means but it’s sure better than before.

Anyway I just wanted to share that. Im sorry if it was a little rambly. I’m rooting for everyone out there so hard because this shit is not easy, it’s hell actually but you got this and you are stronger than you think (cliche but true) ❤️‍🩹

41 days today

I am beyond proud of myself. I truly was struggling so much and trying to quit everyday for a month before I really did. I just want everyone to know that you are capable of quitting, you have it in you. I really could not imagine me being where I am right now 41 days ago.

Here's some of the standouts:

In the first 100 days, I processed through a lot of suppressed emotions. Situations or conflicts with friends that didn't sit right with me, but I never talked about them because I would just get high instead. Once I stopped, I had to sit with those things and actually process them. Turns out, pretty much all of them were minor. They just needed dealing with.

I found myself again. I realized how insecure I actually was, and the ways in which that manifested. That was a lot to handle, and I'm really glad I had my wife's support.

I started smoking around 15 and quit at 29. Especially during those early years, life was moving fast and there was so much to experience and learn from. I never quite got to the learning bit. I'm still catching up on that.

The biggest change, and the one I'm most thankful for, is mental clarity. I can focus again. I can actually learn things, like playing guitar, or read books. I always tried doing those things before, but I'd rarely make it past 10 minutes before getting distracted or giving up.

Weed fucked me, it really did. It took away my lust for life. It stopped me from having friends. It stopped me from being myself and exploring life.

If you're still in doubt, please, try it for a year. It could be the best year of your life, and it can start today.

Happy to answer any questions :)

My coworker commented that I seem more energetic at work which is due to me not ripping the cart 24/7. I’m really proud of myself fr. Hope this gives someone some motivation✌🏻

Yesterday I quit cold turkey after smoking every day for 12 years

I woke up yesterday morning and decided that I was done. I was going to stop watching my money literally go up in smoke. I was tired of having to smoke real quick before leaving the house. I was tired of always bringing a joint with me everywhere I went. I was tired of not being able to focus in any kind of meaningful way. I was tired of feeling like a loser.

I realized recently that I used to be into a lot of really interesting hobbies that I just don't do anymore. At first I thought I just outgrew certain things or got older, but I've come to realize that I was actively numbing myself to the point that I just didn't care. It was all a guise. I've been masking this entire time and I didn't even know it. I had no idea that I wasn't allowing myself to fully feel my feelings, if that makes sense. I have a background in music and can play a lot of instruments: guitar, bass, trumpet, piano, French horn, mellophone, drums/percussion. But I haven't touched the guitar in years and whenever I do, I just dink around until I get frustrated and put it away in my closet for another year or so.

Today is Day 2. I have officially made it past the 24 hour mark. All day yesterday, I felt really good and happy with my decision. I had therapy and my therapist was very supportive and gave me some good things to think about. My wife, who would join me in my daily smoking but smokes far less than I do, told me that she's very proud of me. We've been having some issues since the start of the Summer that we're still working out. Weed is not the locus of the issues we've been having, but it definitely contributes to a lot of my own personal issues.

Sometimes in the late afternoon/early evening my wife will get tired and lay down for a quick nap. She did this yesterday and up until that point, I was fine. As soon as she closed the door to sleep, the cravings hit me like a truck and I started feeling withdrawal symptoms: irritability, impatience, intense sadness, anxiety, anger. The worst is the intense sadness. At random points in the night (and this morning) I would just cry for no reason. It's like I've opened the floodgates on my own emotions and now all of these things that I've numbed myself to that I haven't fully processed are all just coming out on their own. On top of all this, I can't seem to stop farting and my stomach hurts all the time so I'm gassy AND weepy! Yay!

I'm going to use this weekend to explore old hobbies and interests. I'm going to pick the guitar back up and rediscover my love for playing Modest Mouse songs. I'm going to play old video games from childhood that I have fond memories of but never completed (looking at you, Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door). I'm going to write more, try to draw, and bake/cook stuff just for the sake of doing it and giving my hands and mind something to do. I know for a fact that I'm going to be drinking more coffee during this time (the only vice I will never give up). I just want to be the best version of myself. I wanted to share all of this with people that would understand where I'm coming from. Any advice or anything like that is appreciated.

To quote Harrier DuBois from Disco Elysium: "I don't want to be this kind of animal anymore!"

Day 1

Posting here for accountability.

45/F. Mostly edibles at night after work as a way to unwind. The cons outweigh the pros due to weight gain from munchies, not being as social as I should be, and I really want to be more present.

It's hard as there is a dispensary down the street. Here's hoping this time sticks.

I’ve made it 5 days and the depression is kicking my ass. I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore, sorry for putting the burden on whoever is reading this. I’ve made my plan to just leave and never come back, I have nothing left and no more will to continue on. Peace.

2 and a half months without weed, feeling very depressed. What happens next?

I'm 36 old, heavy user, smoking daily for 14 years. I'm clean since July 25th, had a euphoric first month without weed, but since then I am feeling really depressed, sad, without perspectives. I meet with a psychologist every week for 12 years, and just increased my sertralin pills to 100mg. I have good moments sometimes but even then it just seems not right to feel good, and I feel sad again. I'm also having some suicidal ideas, which are not commom for me, and I know I won't kill myself but it scares me how it just pops in my mind.

I'm trying to do new stuff, go out with other people, but my motivation is very low to do that. I'm working the minimum so I won't stop, but it's hard.

And I don't have cravings anymore, smoking seems like a step back, and would really make me even sadder.

Can anyone tell me how long it's gonna be like this? I really need something that makes me better, and I feel like I have no energy to try more stuff than I am already doing...

Edit: I'm working out and doing more cardio without the laziness from weed and my sleeping is much better!

The familiarity is the worst. Day 1 is always maddening. By the end of the day my head is so noisy all I want to do is smoke and scream.

Day 2.

Smoking was 100% ruining my life. It gave me health problems. The anxiety, constant rumination, i now have SEVERE health anxiety (maybe OCD) that is ruining my life.

Every little symptom I’m having from detoxing is more proof I’m dying. Honestly I’m really scared all the time. I’m convinced the detox is going to kill me. 😂. (I know thats my anxious brain)

Its so hard because all my friends smoke and anyone i talk to doesn’t understand the addiction, or the struggle or why i would ever want to quit.

I dont really know what im looking for. Support? A friend? Someone who understands how im feeling and can reassure me im not dying. 😂.

Thanks for reading my rambles.

3 weeks!

Just need to celebrate with someone. I smoked daily from the ages of 21 to almost 39. A few days before my 39th birthday I decided I was done and stopped cold turkey. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for so long but thought it would be too hard or it wasn’t the right time…just excuses. I don’t miss it at all. Sleep is a little hit or miss but I still feel more rested than I did while smoking and my dreams are way more fun! I’m just keeping myself busy and also went head first into exercise. Three weeks down, the rest of my life to go!

Qp a month to cold turkey

Been a daily smoker for about 12 years. Started at 12yrs old. Always told myself it’s been nothing but a help.
-always had trouble sleeping
-heavy anxiety
-it was always there when nobody else was
I’ve never thought about quitting seriously until a week ago.
I play pool/snooker and experience severe anxiety when playing in tournament settings. So much so I’ve not been able to find an answer. After an especially nerve racking night I had enough. I cut back for a few days and quit completely for 2 days before the next tournament.
I ended up winning, which I’ve only done once before so this was huge to me. The nerves this time were much less amplified.
I smoked again that night, (had told myself I would previously and was celebrating the win. Probably shouldn’t have didn’t get much out of it.)
and now am on day 2 again.
I cannot focus on anything for more than a few minutes at a time, have been up to about 7am most nights and eating maybe half a meal a day. I know these are normal symptoms. I want to be able to be anxiety free in high pressure environments. Not need something to get through my day.
I miss it bad. Have pretty much stayed stoned for the last 12 years. Kept a buzz all day everyday, from awake to sleep. A Tolerance break was about 2 hours for me until now.
These have been the first complete days I’ve went without it in 8 years, I don’t feel like myself but that’s probably because I haven’t been sober in so long.
I’m really just wondering if it’s worth it.
I’ve dealt with some hard things in my life the last 10-15 years and I’ve never been sad or not enjoyed life, and right now it feels like weed helped me get through things and generally just made my life easier.
Not wanting to be nervous in a pool tournament is never what I thought would give me the idea to quit.
Advice? Is it actually worth it?
I really don’t want to stop forever, I’ve tossed around the idea of just a few times a month? It’s the main thing I’ve used as motivation for myself for so long I can’t imagine never smoking again.

Today I reached day 3

29m. 3 days since I’ve smoked. I haven’t been sober since the 5th grade. The first day I was feeing really confident, the second I wasn’t feeing that cool, and now on the third I just feel…bored? Depressed? Anxious? Idk, I have my paraphernalia to my wife so she could dispose of it for me because I literally couldn’t. I’ve been trying to keep my mind busy by reading books, making a game on RPGMaker, and spending more time with my wife and our dog. The thing is I’m scared that I’m not going to enjoy the things that I did when I was high like playing video games and enjoying other forms of media, I used to get high before I did almost anything. The reason I want to quit now is because I’m just tired of not being able to apply for jobs because they drug test, not being able to drive somewhere nice because I’m too high, and just not feeling totally present with my wife. I really wanted to smoke today but I won’t because I’m trying to have the mindset that if I do, I won’t get a good job and that I basically made myself feel like shit for no reason. I’m using Steven King as inspiration. He was worried that not doing drugs would ruin his creativity but he’s been sober 40 years now and still pumping out books and that gives me hope. Reading people’s post who smoked longer the me and have been sober for a while now give me hope. If someone else is able to live a happy life without weed then I should be able to as well. I will be strong for my wife. If there is anyone that is struggling through their journey, you can message me so we can struggle together and if anyone who has conquered their struggles want to give me some advice, I am more than willing to listen. The last -15+ years have been a daze and it’s time for me to start a new chapter in my life.

the cravings are crazy. I've been too deep into this for too long. it's been years without feeling anything. I've fallen into depression & lost many important stuff. I wish I had the courage to dissapear, if you know what I mean, but I'm too coward for that also. i'm a terrible person for throwing my life away like this.

2 weeks sober tonight

I've been a relatively light but daily user for the past 3 years. Had a psychotic episode brought on by weed prior to that, and quit it for a few months before falling back in. I had to temporarily quit for a surgery, and figured if I could get through a few days without it it'd be the easiest opportunity I'd have to quit for good.

So far, not noticing a lot of difference, for good or ill. I am noticing a lot of cravings though - when I'm tired, bored, anxious, etc. And it feels good to not just give in to them.

I want to not lie to my family when I say I've quit. I want to tell my doctor that I'm sober. I want to not always worry about running out, or going somewhere I can't use.

I think the desire will always be there on some level, but I also think if I can make it this far I can make it last. Hoping for the best.

18 trying to quit and scared.

title explains itself, Monday night I smoked a bowl of some dispensary bud and It made me freak out and gave me a bad panic attack which I thought was a heart attack. It happened a few nights before also but it wasn’t as bad and i didn’t wanna make a big deal out of it and kinda just layed in my bed and waited for it to pass. But Monday night I don’t know what set it off so bad but, here we are. a few hits of my bowl and like 10 mins later my chest got tight hands clammy and sweaty and my anxiety was through the roof and everything felt muffled and my head was cloudy and I was tingling. I usually never tell mom or anything’s cuz I’ve been smoking for a good while and I usually deal with it myself but this time it was bad I thought I was dying and I eventually went to the urgent care around like 9:30pm. they took me in right away pretty much and gave me a EKG and chest xray, I told them I was feeling like this after cannabis and they told me I should lay off of it and my heart rate was getting a little high (up to 150 bpm and between 120 and 130 usually) as we waited and I tried to calm down it went to the high 90’s. The doctor came in and told me there’s no evidence of cardiovascular complaints or anything and my xray looked good. They sent me home around 11:30 I was feeling a little better when I got home but still had heart palpitations but i eventually watched some YouTube and fell asleep around midnight. I woke up the next morning at like noon and it’s around 9:30pm when I’m writing this and I’m feeling better definitely better then last night but I’m still getting some heart palpitations and I threw up some stomach bile when I woke up. This was one of the scariest moments in my life I’m very conscious about my health and I know I’m young and it’s extremely rare for me to just have a heart attack and die but I really hate this. The next day I went to the hospital emergency room to get checked even more, and they did take quite a few viles of blood and one of the tests I think did include troponin and after being monitored for a few hours the doctor came back in and told me they didn’t think it was anything cardiovascular, and I tired to tell him about the constant heart palpitations but he just told me it’s most likely anxiety related gave me a prescription medication and sent me home . It does help but my heart is constantly beating out of my chest all day and I’m still a little shaken up. Any reassurance or advice would be appreciated sorry for the long post.

How do yall deal with the depression the first few days?

• Upvotes

I always see people talk about the insomnia, cold sweats, lack of appetite, nausea, etc etc. I can deal with all those things, but I always relapse because whenever I try to quit, for at least the first week, I’m INCREDIBLY depressed. I don’t mind any other part of being sober, I enjoy the clarity, have more fun, and feel better about myself. But underneath that is this void of emptiness that I know only a hit could get rid of. Going somewhere I can’t bring it soon and I genuinely don’t know how I’m going to deal with it. I know my dopamine receptors are just completely fried, but it’s so unbearable I never successfully quit. Did/does anyone else get like this and what do you do to help?

Hanging in there.

I’m somewhere around 5–6 weeks without weed now.

The first couple of weeks were pretty rough. Sleep was all over the place, my dreams came back with a vengeance, my appetite was weird, and I was more irritable and anxious than I expected. There were also stretches where I just felt flat. Nothing sounded particularly fun, and I kept thinking, “Is this what being sober is supposed to feel like?”

At 5–6 weeks, things are definitely better, but I wouldn’t say everything suddenly disappeared.

Sleep is improving. My head feels clearer. I’m getting more normal moments where I’m not thinking about weed at all. But I still get random waves of anxiety, low motivation, brain fog, and occasionally a strong urge to smoke especially when I’m bored, stressed, or doing something where weed used to automatically be part of the routine.

One thing I didn’t fully appreciate before quitting was how much of this seems to be about relearning how to just exist without immediately changing how I feel.

Bad mood? Smoke.

Bored? Smoke.

Can’t sleep? Smoke.

Good day? Smoke to make it “better.”

Now I actually have to sit with those feelings for a while.

For anyone farther along: did you still have withdrawal symptoms coming and going around the 5–6 week mark? And when did you start feeling like your baseline mood, sleep, and motivation were more consistently normal again?

I’m not expecting some magical day where everything is perfect. Mostly curious what other people experienced around this point.

46 days cart free - update and vent

I quit heavy daily cart use on August 16, due to a significant illness. Something switched this week, and I’m finally not waking up at 4am, anxiously tossing and turning. I’m sleeping until nearly 7am and when I do wake up, my heart isn’t pounding and I’m not starting my day feeling anxious. This is an awesome improvement and one of the things I was worried was going to last longer than it did.

When it comes to evenings, I no longer feel like something is “missing” from my night. Sometimes I get little blips of craving the habit itself, but not the actual high, if that makes sense. I love deciding at 6pm that I want to head to target, or getting bored enough that I start thinking about a new gallery wall project. I love that I’ve signed myself up for classes and volunteering that I would have never tried before.

Some other perks— I don’t need to scrub my tongue so much/worry about bad breath, I don’t stumble over my words when speaking with people, I don’t feel anxious about making eye contact with people. I talk to my mom way more and don’t get anxious about phone calls from her, or other family members. I’ve reconnected with a lot of friends. I’m eating better and more consistently than ever, weed made me so complacent, I would skip meals.

What I am struggling with, is the clarity quitting has brought me when it comes to my relationship. My husband’s drinking has bothered me for quite some time, but I was always in too much of a fog to determine how much of a problem it really was. He smokes too. Now that I’m thinking clearly, I’m almost getting an aversion to being in my own home with him while he drinks and smokes. It’s his default way to spend really any free time at home, and it’s really starting to make me sad. I can see how much getting sober has benefited me, and I just want the same for him. He used to just randomly tackle little projects, get inspired to do something, etc., and that light is gone. I’ve brought up quitting just weed specifically to him multiple times since I quit myself, and each time his response is “eventually.” The last time we talked about it was two weeks ago, and during that conversation with him it was clear that he’s done having “big conversations” for a while. He told me to “throw out my timeline.” I understand quitting needs to be his choice, but I also am really struggling with the fact that I don’t really want to be in my own house. It’s not because he seems stoned, or because his use makes me crave it, it’s truly just that I don’t want that routine to be the default anymore.

Daily heavy user for 16 years. I was mentally ready to give it up, smoking was starting to give me anxiety and bad thoughts after each use. It wasn't the same anymore.

I don't think about it anymore and don't have any desire to pick it back up. If you're ready this and you're on the fence, you can do it.
