26.04 and rolling/LTS kernels
Hey all,
With the 26.04 release, is there any chance of going back to (or making available) an LTS-style kernel? The rolling kernel has been nice, particularly through 22.04 and 24.04's long lifespans, but i wonder if it would be less necessary going forwards.
For context, over the past year I have had break due to kernel upgrades:
- my mouse, because it's a logitech and there's a heap of churn in this area
- the whole desktop env refused to come up for a couple of days due to some upstream bug (that was hotfixed quickly)
- WiFi broke in June for about a month
- For around a month at the start of the year, my lappy was hanging on s3 resume due to some WiFi firmware thing i believe
None of the above is System76's direct fault, it's just the nature of life with fresh upstream kernels. The end result is not great though: my systems sometimes go kaput and all i can do is whinge and wait. Frankly if I wanted to live on the bleeding edge like this I'd be on Arch.
So - is there any appetite for a more stable kernel release model now we are getting back up to speed with Ubuntu bases? Particularly with S76's focus on workstations and productivity work - on my gaming box at home then I can shrug and go do something else, but particularly for my work machines I really would value a more stable kernel.
