That's usually how straight 240p composite video looks when it's connected directly to a modern TV.
Modern TVs were never really designed to properly process low-res analog AV signals like that.
This is how it should look with a proper external scaler and appropriate cables:
That's my 2-chip SNES on a 2010 Visio M220VA using a Retrotink 5X-Pro with an Insurrection Industries RGB SCART cable. Between that and the 5X with an HD Retrovision component video cable or an Insurrection Industries S-Video cable, it honestly couldn't look any better.
Or just emulate a CRT and pass-thru your system’s video out.
Works especially great for Pixel Perfect Integer Scaling. The above game is close to 4:3 but not quite. Traditionally it would be stretched and scaled with fractions, but when you control the screen area, the bezel, overscan, you can make your own rules so the aspect ratio stays pixel perfect to the game, not the system or screen.
Just get a proper upscaler and it will be fine. I do have a 1chip with HD retro vision component cables and an ossc upscaler, but it looks amazing on modern displays.
