Hacking Discussion Lets say the switch 2 magically got hacked to the point where the switch 1 is now? What could it do? Would it be a vastly superior device to the steam deck?

I guess recently the switch 1 has gotten ALOT of homebrew advancement in the past year with new homebrew ports and stuff. I was kinda inspired to ask because I watched a video where an android tablet from just brute force could run cyberpunk 2077 at 52-55FPS (was the latest legion tablet though). Like can the steam deck even do that with its current hardware? Does the switch 2 have that sorta horsepower where if android was introduced it could run something like cyberpunk with game native at 60+ fps? Like imo at 500 bucks a hacked switch 2 would be an insane device right?

Overclocked switch 2 would be an absolute beast, however, it will get quite warm + the battery will drain fairly quickly as tradeoffs.

As if it currently dosent drain super quickly

As a switch lite enthusiast this and the size are the two reasons I dont have one yet.

Yeh, when I was watching reviews for it I thought “it can’t be that bad” but now I own one and yeh, the battery life is shit

Which is nuts cuz I'm still blown away by the battery on the lite. I can get a solid 6 hrs in Skyrim, I saw a dude say he played for 45 mins on like 80% of his battery or something crazy like that. No thanks.

Those are drawback of more powerful device and super small battery, but he, it's not a 900g handheld and this is good..

I never go without my power bank

Agreed on the weight thing. Even just my kids regular size switch I found too big for me to play comfortably in any other position than sitting upright in a chair or couch and even the couch was iffy due to lack of both armrests

Actually I wanna add that some guy near launch installed a bigger battery so we maybe won't have to worry about battery consumption

Also apparently the Dock doesn't use the full 60 Watts from the charger so we could probably just pull more power in docked mode and not worry as much about the Battery

If the overclock can match the current from yh charger , thus reducing the battery wear and tear yeah beby

The switch 2 is impressively performant. It's currently not possible to directly benchmark the SoC in the console, (the Nvidia t239), but it's a derivate of a much more public and accessible chip, the t234, which is a chip designed for high performance AI/ML applications, (among other things). It's likely significantly faster, as can be seen by benchmarks here: https://gadgetversus.com/processor/nvidia-tegra-orin-t234-vs-amd-aerith-(steam-deck)//)

Do note: Processors from Nintendo are usually underclocked to preserve battery life, console longevity, and other reasons, so it won't measure this well in HOS on console.

I wanna add more things

Nintendo's Devkits always run at a higher clockspeed, since like the Wii U pretty much, though with modding, that clockspeed is apparently accessible on Wii U though depending on the revision it may just get too hot. the Dev clockspeed for the Switch is actually not near the max speed AND during the Factory AGING Test it apparently runs the CPU and RAM at full speed for like 30 minutes so even then the chip IS designed to run at those speeds and also do a benchmark before being packaged to make sure the unit can actually sustain long gaming sessions. (Which clearly Sony did NOT do with the PS3… fucking assholes)

And apparently for both Wii U and the Tegra X1 there were apparently revisions during the console's life that were able to achieve higher clockspeeds thus when downclocked to their stock speeds they actually ran cooler, this is most evident with Switch Lite and OLED (Mariko vs Erista) and I would not be surprised if the same happens with the t239 where we get more efficient revisions, ESPECIALLY because 8nm is literally why the battery drains so fast and Nintendo really needs to do a 4nm or 6nm revision.

Yeah that. I'll add my modded Switch 2 Fanfic to this

So firstly you could go absolutely nuts with emulation, think like the Macbook Pro with idk the M2 Max. You could get 4K Wii/PS2 emulation and anything below also 4K. You could also do PS3, Wii U and even some Switch 1 emulation at 1080p or 1440p up from 720p (though Switch 1 emulation is irrelevant when Switch 2 runs that natively) who knows maybe even PS4 emulation as some madlads have ran PS3 and Wii U emulation on the Switch 1 with extreme overclocks... and it's not stable but point is that it still works

Secondly, GO ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NUTS WITH SWITCH 1 STUFF. 1440p OR MAYBE EVEN 4K FOR THOSE OLD SWITCH 1 TITLES, STABLE 60FPS AND EVEN CRAZIER MODS. SERIOUSLY THE POSSIBILITIES ARE FUCKING ENDLESS. I personally wanna run Persona 5 Royal's switch 1 version on Switch 2, seeing how even the PS4 Pro can run it at native 4K I'd say with mods, Switch 2 could reasonably run Persona 5 at either 1080p60 or 1440p30, oh and of course we could have Persona 4 Golden at either 1440p120 or 4K60, seriously the Switch 1 apparently can run Persona 4 Golden at like 75FPS with the stock clocks and it's a Vita game so no problem for Switch 2. oh and Paper Mario TTYD could finally receive that sweet 60FPS patch without having to run at Portable Mode resolutions.

Thirdly, we could get rid of that stupid ass title blacklist and finally run YouTube. it won't be 4K YouTube like on PS4 but it'll still look damn good on the portable screen. Assuming it literally was today it would also be the ONLY time period to use Crunchyroll on Switch 2 (assuming you get the patch to use it on modded consoles working)

Fourthly... themes. this speaks for its own.

Fifthly, the Switch 2 would be a BEAST for Media Playback. Rumours say it apparently has the Media Block from the RTX 40 Series Card and this fucker allows you to playback H264, MPEG2, and VC-1 at 4K60 at 10-bit colour depth, while H265, VP8, VP9, and even fucking AV1… at up to 8K60 or 4K120… WITH HDR TOO. (oh and 12-bit colour space) so you could go absolutely crazy and play pretty much ANY Video file on the Switch 2 and it'll look absolutely stunning on a 4K OLED, and even allow you to play 120fps Video files. And like actually the Switch 2 has better Media Capabilities than the RDNA1 Media Block found on PS5 and Series X since those cannot do AV1 though they do achieve 8K60 and 4K120 from what I know but even then the Switch 2's processor is a monster. It does help that the WiFi Card is pretty damn good so you could also use it as a Home Media Server or a Game Streaming Device.

Lastly, fuck GameChat. We could maybe somehow disable GameChat entirely and take 1GB or 2GB from GameChat's 3GB memory pool and either use that for better game performance OR we could use it for a lot of System Plugins, especially since 19.0.0's update reduced the available RAM for Custom System Plugins... disabling GameChat could net us a lot of that space for plugins and Mods would also crash less often if you're a maniac with 20GB of Smash Mods like me

Wait does YouTube not work on switch 2?? lol

1

u/iLiikePlayingWii 11d ago

Yea it doesn't

1

u/KoopsterShell 11d ago

I want switch 2 emulation on PC

2

u/iLiikePlayingWii 11d ago

Ohh that too…
technically speaking though the question was what could it do as in if the Switch 2 Hardware was jailbroken… and not what it would give us…

But yea that too

1

u/KoopsterShell 11d ago

That can give you more control. PC is the ultimate beast on configuration so we can have faster fps depending on your specs I have a Ryzen 7 7700x which in terms of switch 2 hell even modern PC is a beast CPU Rx 6700 xt and all that 32 gb ram. These are specs that are suited to excel switch 2 emulation on PC

Also the games will be free now instead of 80$ a pop

2

u/Business_Squash8847 10d ago

Most Nintendo games are usually $60 digital and $70 physical, with some even being $50 digital and $60 physical. To my knowledge, only Mario Kart World and the new Fire Emblem are $80 as well as Switch 2 Editions that have extra content

2

u/Redditisreal1 2d ago

Fire emblem is 70 digital, its only 80 physical

It’s not hard to be superior to the steam deck babe. That thing released outdated

-3

u/Cultural_Neat3124 11d ago

already falling behind but instead of price drop, it price sky rocket ! LOL pro move from steam

4

u/OkVirus8545 11d ago

Did you misread what I said or are you a result of the no child left behind initiative?

6

u/Aritmetechnology 12d ago

well most games run at 60fps tops, it would make possibility of patches for a lot of games for them to be able to run up to 120hz, similar how in the switch 1 you're able to do that.

5

u/Redd_is_compromised 12d ago

This ain't happening dawg

4

u/iLiikePlayingWii 12d ago

Actually not most, there's quite a lot of 40FPS games and going from 60 to 120 is quite a bigger ask than 60 to 30 which is more like going from 720p to 1080p

1

u/Individual_Holiday_9 11d ago

Capped stable 40fps isn’t a bad option tbh I used to keep my steam deck capped to 40

3

u/Holidoik 12d ago

It's already vastly superior

2

u/moonstrong 10d ago

Steam Deck has a better CPU, Switch 2 has a better GPU is my understanding?

3

u/PhilipJayFry1077 10d ago

I just want moonlight on it. The form factor and screen is so nice. Would love to stream
Games to it at 144hz

5

u/Odonnellspup 9d ago

free games

2

u/Consistent-Leave7320 12d ago

idk switch 2 is already kinda at its limits cuz of battery life and heat, would it be able to be overclocked much?

4

u/chris9889 9d ago

Powerbanks exist. Docked Mode exists.

The sw 2 has a 65 w charger included and barely useses it.

120 Hz barely uses it 4k 60 barely uses it.

Homebrew could Change that

2

u/Ragnatheblooddude 12d ago

I mean a modded switch can do alot more than just be overclocked...

1

u/animuz11 12d ago

On a dock with extra ventilation it could

1

u/iLiikePlayingWii 11d ago

It would but you would need to do stuff like better cooling solutions but it is theoretically possible and also the fact that it has been proven the battery can be swapped

2

u/kayproII 7d ago

NGL Linux on the switch 2 would go very hard in terms of homebrew

1

u/Fcm_English 12d ago

It would be the best console to ever hit the market, once it's hacked, limitless

5

u/JHolmesSlut 7d ago

Sadly by the time it’s hacked much better would have likely released

1

u/ArkBeetleGaming 11d ago

I am curious as to what creative thing would mod dev replace gamechat button functionality with.

1

u/spydrthrowaway 9d ago

I want overclocking, custom themes, menu music, and local save data backups. Maybe some crazy stuff like Linux gaming to play shit like ffxi.

I already got 90+ physical switch games in my current collection, idgaf about running backups.

1

u/Nick_The_Artist2 8d ago

Netflix at 120fps

1

u/Dry_Structure_2287 7d ago

If by right now, you mean the linux+android support, then its insane. If you just mean something like Atmosphere on the og Switch or the Homebrew Channel, then its still really good, but would still rather get a steam deck.

1

u/xKeNniii 12d ago

I would definitely play it more than my Steam Deck
