Question Does anyone use their modded switch 1 even with switch 2
Hello, I don't know where to ask this, since switch pirates doesn't allow talking about switch 2. Anyway, I'am new Nintendo player, I could never justify Switch 1 while having PC so up until now I never had it, I'am also a student so tight budget.
Since Switch 1 is now older console a lot of people sell them online for cheaper and I managed to get unpatched switch 1 for realy low price (80euros) . I modded it and I'am enjoying it, and now I managed to find switch 2 used for a 300 euros normally it costs 500 and climbing in my country (not in America). Also found Pokopia for 40euros and new is 70-80 euros. Switch 2 works amazing and I also love it...but I am wondering does it maks sense having both?
I love modding consoles but prefer softmod, and since joining this sub I saw thats probably not an option, I also love physical media but yea game key cards...so I'am debating starting to collect all switch games and continuing with switch 2 exclusives..but it feels dumb since I have modded switch 1, is anyone same?

Switch 1 I use primarily. It has all my games and game saves (including emulators), as well as my main way of watching tv (Stremio) and I surprisingly do a lot of game streaming to my xbox.

If it wasn’t for the “day 1 might be more hackable”, I wouldn’t even own a switch 2
When you have a switch 1, steam deck and ps5, there’s no reason to upgrade yet
I would just keep playing switch 1 until you exhaust it’s library

So Switch 2 only for exclusives? I mean I can sell it but I will probably not find that price again for a while

Yeah
I prob wouldn’t sell it though, no real point. It’ll be the same price in like 6 years and prob Nintendo will have moved onto switch 3 then. And maybe luckily we could see cheaper used games since they are so old? Maybe
But yeah, I have no intention of getting anything on mine but Nintendo games and uhh, just dance lol

I mainly use my Switch 2 but I play modded games on my 1.

What games do you play most?

u/An1nterestingName 11d ago
On my 2? All sorts. Modded? Splatoon 3, Odyssey, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Mario Wonder, etc.

Pikmin 3 vs pikmin 4? Which is better?

I've had more fun with Pikmin 4, but Pikmin 3 is generally considered the better game.

I keep both because switch 1 is king of retro games, psp games and also a lot of pokemon romhack, and sometimes streaming from my pc and ps5

how do you stream your ps5? can you do it outside or just at home
3
u/ohhneinn 10d ago
I use this one to stream from ps5 https://github.com/xlanor/akira
Not sure about outside because I only stream within my home network, my ps5 is in my living room and I stream games from there only when I need to stay with my kids in bedroom, or before going to sleep.

I still play my switch 1, but I've been getting switch 2 games from the library when I can. I just can't justify buying games. I actually hadn't planned on buying a switch 2, but I won one in a raffle at work

Yupppp I do exactly that. NSW2 is left only for exclusives and hope for a hack one day, but NSW1 still my main, plenty of games I haven’t played yet

Yes. I have a switch1 and modded it since 2018. Subsequently bought a switch lite during covid to play animal crossing online with friends. And then bought a switch OLED last year to play fantasy life online as the minimap is too small on the lite screen and it's hurting my eyesight haha. I have since gotten a switch2 this march for pokopia. I have successfully sell off my switch lite and am hoping to sell away my OLED too. I feel keeping my gen1 modded consoles + switch2 is the way to go. Hope this helps! :)

Yes after completing all tracks on mkw and completing donkey kong bananza i now use my switch 1 because there is so much you can do with it.

Same. Switch 1 for expensive Nintendo exclusives (which are on switch one) and expensive games in general. Switch 2 for good and cheap games, and for new Switch 2 only games. Aside from this, I feel purchasing games makes them more enjoyable for some reason, and also the auto update.

Not modded but I have a switch lite and tbh I been playing more on that than my switch 2. Unless it's a S2 game, I'll just play on lite.
My dream console is a switch 2 with its apu inside reduced in size due to newer tech, similar battery to current switch 2, an edge to edge screen, & all while being the same or very close to the original size of the switch 1 lite.

We still get bangers like Trails 2nd chapter and no real banger on the Switch 2, so all good

I just got my Switch 2. I might take a break from my Switch 1 once I finish playing the game I was in the middle of, but I still plan to use it. I'm still using my modded Wii U lol.

Yes and no. I love console modding and owning an exploitable switch has been pretty great and absolutely worth having, as of now the switch 2 is not exploited and I enjoy Nintendo exclusives so using both makes sense to me. It really depends on what I'm playing at the time but if it runs on my modded switch, I'm likely going to play it there. I also remote play on my PC a lot so I use the modded switch as a "steam deck". Not to mention native Android & Ubuntu is just fun to tinker on and I use it as a "regular tablet" a lot so I don't really see a reason not to keep the switch 1. I can pretty easily fit my switch 1 in my switch 2 case so it isn't much hassle to bring both.
I mainly use my switch 2 for legit games with my Nintendo online subscription. I really enjoy DK Bananza and Splatoon Raiders, with Pokopia being on the backlog... So yeah, I guess it's worth picking up a switch 2 if you play legit games online and want those switch 2 exclusives or really dead-set on playing the handful of switch 1 games that have a performance boost, if that appeals to you and it's within your budget, there's your answer.

I'm in the same boat as you except with no PC whatsoever. I have a HUGE backlog of switch 1 games to play still and I use my Switch 2 regularly as well. Since I don't have a PC I tell myself life is too short to hold out for a hack and play it as normal. The image quality of the Switch2 is quite nice and I find myself wanting to play it more and more. Since you have a PC you can just stick with the exclusives and have fun.

Honestly too, updating isn't as bad as people make it out usually.
Now, I can't make any promises, I'm not a fortune-teller lol. But...
I somehow got super lucky with the PS Vita (bear with me here, lol). Walmart didn't realize what they had, and while eBay was hocking PSTVs for $300, they were at Walmart for $20. I bought ALL 4 of them.
See, the PSTV was specifically on the oldest Vita firmware. The PERFECT one for hacking (3.60)! Aaaand, this was during a time where updating to 3.65 was also good, because certain games didn't work on 3.60... But in-doing so certain 3.60 homebrew didn't work on 3.65.
SOOOO, I had a 3.60 PSTV, a 3.65 PSTV, and a fully updated PS Vita and PSTV.
I could keep going, as Sony kept trying to add encryption keys through updates here and there... But to cut a long story short ALL of that BS just gave me jailbreak sooner... See, while Sony (or in the Switch's case Nintendo) can always send out patches... The public knowing how the OS works inside and out makes it significantly harder to lock-down. Nowadays ALL that crap I just said? Doesn't matter. You can be on whatever version you want, and like any retro console that's exhausted it's updates, it's recommended to be on the latest, lol.
I.e. Once the fortress has been cracked, even just once, it being completely broken is just a matter of time. At best holding out on updates gets you jailbreak sooner, but once someone gets jailbreak at all... That means the right people are starting to get to the right places. Lol
(Also NOT saying those that are holding a non-updated Switch shouldn't, hell yeah to you guys!! Just don't feel like you'll never get jailbreak because you "made the mistake of updating" just have fun, it'll come with time)!

My pc is older, but I manly wanted to play on orginal hardware, I didn't even plan on buying switch 2, but since I am into second hand and trifting i checked out consoles and simply got lucky

u/Remarkable-Llama616 11d ago
Fair play and nice work on the thrifting! I would do the same but I don't feel safe buying second hand in my country after hearing a story of someone getting attack.

Yep I still play primarily my switch 1 modded even though i have switch 2. If there's a game I wanna play which is on both I usually just play on switch 1, and switch 2 for exclusives. Mainly play on switch 1 to save money, but already pre ordered OoT for switch 2 so yeah just whatever you're in the mood for tbh.

Yes I use NS Oled for Switch 1 games that run great on switch 1 like Hades etc and the ones that have no Switch 2 patch.
I only buy selective Switch 2 games.

I still use both extensively. Been playing a lot of F-Zero 99 and StarFox on my S2, plus demos. Anxiously awaiting OOT. S1 is used for classics, like Mario Galaxy, modded NSO, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc.

I got the switch 2 in hopes of hacking it but since nothing has happened it kinda sits there while I primarily use my switch 1. You just can’t beat having every game, 60 fps mods, emulators, themes and you can play online through sysnand it’s kinda perfect
