This is the current status of a project I've been working on for almost a year now.

It’s a self-contained, Quickshell-based desktop environment. Essentially, it’s just a framework that can be styled in completely different ways using various themes (the video shows a preview of the Colossus and Zen themes). At their core, all themes share the same elements—for example, Zen aims for absolute minimalism, while Colossus displays everything as its own “notch.” Depending on the theme, the elements are displayed differently, but each theme follows the same basic logic. Currently, five other themes are in the works, but they still have too many gaps to be ready for presentation.

In addition, a desktop widget system is already in development, though so far it’s just the framework, and the widgets don’t yet adapt to the style of the respective themes.

There are still minor and major adjustments that need to be made throughout, but overall, this is pretty much what Velumeron is meant to become.

It’s already possible to fully customize the bar in every theme:

There are 3 bar styles (the same in every theme)—frame, float, and dock—and a bar can be placed on either side of the screen. Each bar, in turn, has three zones where various modules can be placed. For each theme, 10 bar presets can be saved and switched using a shortcut.

But I don't think I'll go into any more detail for now.

Actually, I just wanted to give an update on the current status and ask for feedback.

Yeah, as the title says. I just wanted a lightweight alternative to those heavy web panels. You can use it to install server engines, mods, manage mods, make backups, configure properties etc.

This is the repository, check it out for details and pictures. Maybe start your 2-week Minecraft phase; idk, I just want you guys to try it out. Have fun!

I was too lazy to move my data off my old laptop, so I just ripped out the GNOME stuff and riced what was left. there's basically nothing Ubuntu left to look at anymore. custom boot splash, Ly login, dwm all the way down.

Everything is themed from the wallpaper with Wallust. Change the wallpaper and the bar, terminal, notifications and the zsh prompt all recolor together.

Decided to build my own desktop environment instead of theming GNOME/KDE.

The compositor is written in Rust using Smithay, and the settings app is made with Slint. Memory usage is pretty low right now (around ~80MB for the compositor and ~57MB for settings, as seen on the screenshot).

A few quick notes:
The project is in a very early stage right now, so there are still plenty of missing features and bugs.
I'll record a video showcase once basic features and animations are stabilized.
No idea when the release is, but I'll probably push it to GitHub once it's actually usable for daily driving

After a swift transition to rofi and swaync (coming from walker and mako), I made the decission to switch to hyprland, taking advantage of its now native scrolling layout). Matugen is heavily used to theme the different elements in the video.

I couldn't find any tags for it, so I made it based on the name of a Linux distro I'm making, sorry if I make a mistake..

Something I made. I don't know if this can be considered as a rice, but yeah.

Decided to switch to more stable distro (I use arch btw) and find out about FVWM3 and fell in love immediately.

Still learning how to customize but the recent mention of custodesk (found it in this subreddit) helped a lot.

Anyway, pretty satisfied with my workflow

My main laptop broke and is currently being fixed, so I was forced to this kinda old laptop. I used to have Arch + Hyprland but I wanted to try Fedora + Sway, and it's been the best thing I've tried lately. The minimalism and "no eye-candy" in Sway is tbh just more pleasing than other WM's like Hyprland, and it keeps me focused on the actual work. I also managed to -with the help of AI- customize waybar and rofi to my liking, as well as some other stuff like the clipboard and power menu. My daily workflow is generally Zen, Kitty and VsCode only but yeah.
