General Discussion Warcraft 3: Birth of the Legion

In another sub, I commented something and felt like fleshing it out. If I were to see another expansion to WC3, I'd like to introduce three entirely new armies. I'd even accept it as Warcraft 4, but imagine starting the game as the Burning Legion. You see the beginning, when Sergeras became corrupted and started the Legion. We slowly overtake new species until we get to the Eredar. We close the camapgin after we've seen the Dreanei break off from the Eredar and join the legion. We might even be able to see his introduction to the night elves. We then go to the Dreanei campaign, seeing them struggle against the Eredar and break away, eventually landing on Dreanor and meeting the Orcs. We THE go to the Orc campaign, but it's from their beginning to their end. A full history of each race. We see the breaking of the Gronn, the formation of the clans, and the corruption of Mannoroth. Sprinkle the Burning Legion characters throughout the other two campaigns to keep the story looped together.

As a super special bonus, we could even end the Orc Campaign with them coming through the Dark Portal and start the ORIGINAL GAME, WARCRAFT ORCS AND HUMANS, BABY, WOOOO

Edit: Give Chris Metzen the reigns and let him go wild. He wrote most of that old lore, if I'm not mistaken, and could really dedicate himself to it in a way that allows it to blossom with that classic Warcraft grit.

Anyway, that's a thought I just had and wanted to share it with folks to see what they thought.

Sounds like a good lore story, but not much plot? I don't see how you would weave a narrative through such events in a cohesive manner, with protagonists trying to influence history with ups and downs and emotional stakes and big high stakes finale showdown. If Sargeras (or an ensemble of BC characters) was a main character it's just a story of him coming to power and then whittling the opposition down one by one. If the plot is about someone else it's a story of them consistently losing.

All of these stories have already been told throughout the history of Warcraft. They already have main characters, plot lines that weave together, and more. Plus, that'll be Metzen's job lol. I get where you're coming from, but having played and read much of the existing lore, especially in that historical context, I think there's quite a lot that can help loop everything together.

I love this idea. I think about that book Rise of the Horde all the time. It’s so heartbreaking to watch the Orcs get tricked and then become lustful for blood. It really makes you hate Guldan.
