There’s a port of Minecraft pocket edition (an older version of it) that works on old 3DS with minor issues, it’s completely playable and I’d recommend it (by efimandreev0 on github)

Homebrew i am porting celeste to nintendo 3ds

just to show you how it's going, i started few weeks ago making an hardware abstraction layer for porting the monocle engine (the game engine made for celeste) for the 3ds in order to port celeste itself later, i nearly fully ported it using the decompiled source code.
my goal is to make it the most accurate (some effects will be hard to achieve because of limited shader support)
since i wanted first to use a transpiler like il2cpp but i think it will cause performances issue, so i decided to port myself from scratch using the existing code.
it's a very early stage as you can see but i did the hardest already, the levels are not very accurate but i am focusing on effects for now.
if you have any question don't hesitate to ask, btw i have a poor english sryy.

edit: i finish implemeting and debugging level loader and i show to you, the build shown in the video is very old and thanks for all your comments you're all incredible

EDIT 2: PART 2
EDIT 3: SHOWCASE

Just got off the Zelda 40th anniversary direct and I'm honestly really impressed with the amount of Zelda games available on the 3ds. 7 installments is nothing to sneeze at

I'm thinking about modding my old 2ds, which is not hacked, and I'm searching for a reliable guide. I want to know if I can follow this to get started.

Homebrew Whittle: Low poly 3D modelling app for the 3DS

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

This is "whittle", a low-poly 3D modelling app specifically made for the 3DS. I've been working on it for a little while now and I've just created a Github repo for it.

The modelling workflow is very similar to picoCAD, I've basically taken it's "simple vertex editing on orthogonal views" idea and optimized it for the 3DS. The top screen is for the 3D model preview exclusively, while the bottom screen houses all editing functionality & view options. It's very intuitive to use with the stylus. It currently features primitives, basic object manipulations, painting object faces solid colors and texturing, along with a simple 2D texture editor and UV mapping tool. ıt's still experimental, the UI/UX isn't fully there yet and there are a few bugs but it is usable. It can save and load a single model currently, there's no export options.

Github: https://github.com/qewer33/whittle

I want to continue developing this with feedback from actual 3D artists (or people willing to learn and use this thing) so if you are one and like this little project, feel free to contact me on Discord (@qewer33) and give feedback.

Homebrew Announcing Cloudpoint - cloud save (and extdata) sync for 3DS

Thumbnail

Hello friends

I really do love 3DS. It's certainly my favourite console right now. But the difficulty one has in trying to play a game across more than one console (which I consider very important) led me to a fairly complex setup of FTP transfers and pain.

I wanted to solve it, so since last November I've been making Cloudpoint, and it is finally ready to release (but let's call it a beta, yeah?).

The idea is pretty simple. It scans your saves (and extdata, which you can generally just consider to be part of your save) and uploads them to the cloud. Every time you run it, it figures out if it needs to upload your current save (i.e. you played it on that console), download the one on the server (i.e. you played it on a different console), or ask you what to do (i.e. this is the first time you've played the game on this console, OR you've played it on two consoles at the same time).

It's on Universal Updater, I hope some of you find it useful.

Oh, and please keep backups of your saves. I use Cloudpoint, have done for months, and I've not had any issues - but you might. Fire up Checkpoint and make a backup from time to time.

Edit: If you find Cloudpoint useful please consider starring the GitHub repository, it helps with discovery. Thanks!

Edit 2: I think Cloudflare is messing with things. If you have experienced problems I’m sorry about that. I’m trying to figure out what baffling combination of changes will stop Cloudflare from blocking legit traffic just because it doesn’t look like a NextJS website :/

Edit 3: Should be resolved now. If you got network errors before I’d politely request you try again.

Homebrew Added a USB C port to my N3DS without removing the original one. My console is now Directive EU 2022/2380 compliant!

I hand-cut a hole next to the ZR button and installed a USB C breakout board in the empty space inside, which is then wired to the original charging port's pads. This allows the console to be charged with most USB C chargers (it has 5.1k resistors on CC1 and CC2, so it supports both USB A and USB C to C sources) while retaining the original charging port.

Homebrew Should I mod my NEW Nintendo 2DS XL, Pokeball Edition

Thumbnail

I know that was a long title but I’m very conflicted, with the recent news of pokemon bank’s shutdown and the bit rot (or whatever it’s called) happening to 3ds games, I’ve really been considering modding my system, but I’ve never really done anything like this, I have a friend willing to mod it out for me it’s just my own emotions holding me back. this was my (later) childhood ds system and it almost feels wrong doing this. Is there anything I couldn’t do after modding it irl or on the system? Any comments or opinions would greatLt help!

Homebrew Fell in the lake with my 3ds, all is good for the most part??

So recently I went out with my brother around the lake for a day just walking around and having a good time. I remembered that I happened to keep it in my back pocket while I was out because I just forgot to take it out of my pockets when we started walking. Point of the story, I ended up slipping in the lake and getting dunked all the way up to my chest lol. After a 15 min drive back to the house I ended up taking the backplate off and setting it on top of my pc case thinking the warmer air would help it get aired out quickly. Lo and behold, 2 days later I mustered up the courage to put it all back together and power it up and….it worked!!! I was pretty suprised since the lake I fell in was super muddy and dirty (it had been raining the last couple days, to be expected) It ended up getting water damage on the screens, the circle pad being super scratchy (I tried to use compressed air to get the dirt out and rubbing alcohol but I didn’t get any luck with it, plus I find myself not using it that much)and the game cartridge reader doesn’t work anymore from what I could tell. Other than that it’s perfectly fine and I haven’t ran into any other issues. To say I got lucky I believe is an understatement in my book

I have a second copy of alpha sapphire that has actually never worked as long as I have had it. I’m trying to clean up my home, and was hoping to get this copy running again to post for sale.

Like the title says, I’m 9 hours in on godmode9 trying to fix the corruption.

I’m going to try reaching 100% because this is my secondary console so I’m fine with it being tied up for a day or two. Wish me luck 🍀

Homebrew Porting Need for Speed Underground 2 to the 3DS (decompilation project, x86 to ARM)

Thumbnail

I'm only showing this off because of how much progress I've made. I feel proud to share it. I've still got a long way to go but thanks to the Gamecube version bundling the debug symbols, it makes decompiling the PC version a lot faster and easier. 3D renderer works, 2D renderer works, but still a ways to go! Yes its based off the PC version and no there was no pre-existing fully completed decomp project for NFSU2 unlike Sonic Mania and other related decomp projects we've seen brought to 3DS. Making changes such as what you see in the photo to make it nicer for a 3DS, as the game was a one-screen game famously, so I'm going to be taking some things and putting them on the bottom screen instead for a nicer experience.

Homebrew 3ds custom Nerv x Misato édition

Thumbnail
gallery
1.2k Upvotes

Hello ! I bought a vanilla 3ds 3 week ago and after i was ready to make my first custom. The idea here is inspired by Misato Katsuragi in Evangelion. I decided to make a reference to her purple hair and red jacket on the front, including Nerv logo (the company she worked in). Here i changed all the button including cross, joystick(metal one) L+R, switchs buttons, top screen rubber and also stylus. I've put stickers in a cyberpunk way, and layered some on the back with Holographics Nerv logo, more cyber stuff etc and off course, charms.

I hope you guys enjoy this custom, i've put lot of effort in ✨ Check the carrousel for more photo !
