Thanks! You should come play with us sometime! You can find links to our Discord in this thread, or www.galaxygrudge.com
Galaxy Grudge is free on Steam - you should be able to find it on there pretty easily

Looks decent. Are you fast enough to be able to dodge hitscan shots? Looks like everyone is going to be hitting very high %

Right now the bots are pretty simple - this is a v1 implementation.
The intention is to iron out all of the major kinks, then focus on the finer nuance so the bots have a more human-like feel. Dodging, skating, sliding, avoiding being shot, etc

Yeh, I just meant for PvP. But yeah, looks better than most things on this sub. A little much like split gate I think though with the projectile, movement speed and gravity though

Ah - well yeah in playtests I can zig-zag to avoid getting hit, feels similar to UT99, but adjusting the movement friction / braking factors is easily done depending on match feedback.
Speaking of which, if you come and join us on Discord, you could always partake in a playtest with us - we hold them all the time.

Yeah it looks super floaty. That LG is gonna be stupid

You might be feeling the zero-G mechanic we have in the game - players have a zero-gravity module they can activate for a short time whilst in the air, to cross large gaps, get airtime etc?

The zero g for sure, but also the speed of projectiles. The not flak cannon looks good, but the rockets and plasma seem super slow. Though, if they hit like a truck then that balances out. I dig it though so don't take this as a negative criticism.

OP moves in this video like they've never played an arena shooter before

I'll never understand the default desire so many people have to be negative of other people's work / videos. It's a shame. But it is what it is, I suppose.

Omg its DM-Cheops! 😍

u/jackfrench9 5d ago
Indeed! We based the layout on the original Cheops. This one is called DM-Kufu in our game. Put together by MoxNix - an OG UT mapper.

Love seeing the bots in action! Even more excited to give them a try and use them to check map size/recommended player count.

Looks cool. Does it have strafe jumping or is more like UT2004?

If you're referring to the Quake mechanic used to bypass normal speed restrictions, no, it doesn't have that. One of the things we're trying to do with GG is make the movement mechanics easier for all players to use. One of the most common complaints I've heard over the years with regards to AFPS games like Quake / UT4 is "The movement mechanics are so hard to master, I just get ganked by pros in every single game" etc.
So we have a bunch of new mechanics and different options, but they're single-button activations that are easier for beginners to use.

Interesting. I'm not going to lie the movement is one of my favorite things about Quake tbh. The speed of the combat and skill ceiling is the main selling point and there really isn't anything(popular) like it.
I respect your vision though it might get more people into AFPS games. I signed up for the playtest and I'll give the game a whirl tonight.

Cool! Yeah I'm not gonna lie - we're not trying to compete with the high skill-ceiling AFPS games like Quake that most beginners hate due to getting smacked.
We're more trying to bring back the classic chaotic / stupid fun of early AFPS games. Over-the-top violence, ridiculous weapons, a game that puts fun in front of taking itself too seriously etc.
Come join our Discord and next time we spin up a server, you'll get a ping.

You didn't really showcase the movement in this video. Is there any air strafing? Ground hops to keep momentum?

It's UT not Quake, so tap dodging. You can dodge into a crouch slide which is pretty much the ut2004 dodge jump, or into the jet pack thing, which has air control and lets you slide up curved surfaces. You can also Q2 double jump.
That's what I found jumping around an empty map at least, I still need to get into a playtest.

Why would someone play this instead of Quake?
6
u/jackfrench9 5d ago
I can't speak for all players everywhere. It's not for me to say who should play what game and why.

u/Interesting-Yellow-4 5d ago
People like to try something new, that feels familiar. I do at least.

Of course this will feel familiar, its the same game.

Far more akin to UT. It would have taken maybe 3 minutes of your time to figure that out.

u/Kind_Nefariousness27 5d ago
Maybe because people need a break from playing unreal tournament- the best arena shooter ever made.
