Omacom foundation is an Extremist organization
Omacom foundation is behind the project Omarchy which is not only from a technical perspective bad but even worse on the political side.
You can read these thing [here](https://stopomarchy.org/) and this [reddit comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/s/paUNJl2mgg)
Omacom has publicly said that its against the FOSS ideology and want to induce Proprietary/commercial software as a norm.
DHH, the Creator of Omarchy is an Far-right extremist and racist which you can read [here](https://stopomarchy.org/)
They are trying to destroy the linux community Culture and norms, ethical values, and the free software movement.
You might think that omarchy is open-source but there a difference between free software and Open source software which you can read [here] (https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.en.html)
Many Big corporation who already hate and want to end the FOSS ideas are donating to Omacom foundation and they have raised a total of 21 million dollar for there trash dotfile.
This is an Culture war againt the whole linux/FOSS communty not just another bad distro.
Come forward and save the FOSS ideology, not all but many proprietary software are an social problem and mixxed with these extremist right-wing ideology, there are terrorist!
Come together to save the FOSS culture
Long live the Free software movement!

absolutely. they hate FOSS because it prevents them from completely locking the users in

Aww.. this is where I find out about Ladybird. I was looking forward to a new browser base too. Maybe I should start bulding my own javascript engine. Also, I didn't know the Brave guy donated to kiwi farms (I knew about the crypto and the secret telemetry), that's pretty fucked up.
8
u/TanukiThing 14h ago
Brave was founded because they got fired from Mozilla for being homophobic
3
u/lessthanthreebleeps 8h ago
Wow, that's pretty awful. I definitely am on the habit of vetting my software choices, lately.
3
u/Waya_ 14h ago
What's about Ladybird? Can you explain to me?
2
u/praenoto 4h ago
the website linked says “Ladybird, whose founder Andreas Kling rejected gender-neutral docs as "personal politics," barred "societal politics" from contributing guidelines, and posted support for Charlie Kirk”
1
u/lessthanthreebleeps 8h ago
There's some links in the op. Ladybird is mentioned in the same context as a few other projects. I find this context problematic, and for that reason I feel like I shouldn't engage with it.

u/Random_-account 16h ago
It's so unfair that they get $10M in funding from tech bros. It's just an opinionated flavor of Arch & Hyperland

Yeah it's called good software and good marketing which ironically you dolts have given to Omarchy. Rent free, every day - in your heads.
6
u/troy0h 12h ago
"good software" doesn't have hundreds of security flaws
-5
u/AmbivalentCvckfvcker 11h ago
Name one package in Linux that did not have security flaws 🥱
6
u/troy0h 11h ago
you mean those same packages that have been fixed since?
omarchy gives the main user docker access, you can run anything as root through docker, just as a single example
that is a deliberate choice that exposes a giant security vulnerability, now i wonder how many more there might be
2
u/BeginningEcho4983 11h ago
Do you need explicit "flaws" when AI has sufficient access? It can wreck through quite a few things, which vibecoder would disagree giving the sudo password for once?

u/troy0h 11h ago
"whoopise my agentic ai assistant accidentally ran rm -rf / with full root privileges! there go all my files"

u/proto-cool 16h ago
Here's my thoughts on Omarchy, no circlejerk:
I used Claude Code to make my own version of Omarchy based on Silverblue. 24 different themes for GNOME, "agentic" in similar ways (included MCP server, system prompt, AI-agent crash handling, etc.)
It took me about a week to get feature parity with omarchy. Actually, my distro is ahead in reliability and agentic features because there's automatic updating and automatic rollbacks thanks to the Atomic base, and I don't think Omarchy ships an MCP server in their OS, and I have advanced agent sandboxing features that limit them only to their assigned project folder.
So basically I don't think they're doing anything special if some random dipshit from Reddit with a Claude Max plan can make the same shit. Also someone give me $23 million, thanks.
3
u/Raptural 14h ago
I did the same with Bazzite. I literally took their theme manager idea and made on made it work on KDE also lol. Plus I get immutability so I know an agent wont fuck up my system too hard. So many of their ideas are not unique and easy to implement of any distro, I don’t get what all the hype is about
1
u/proto-cool 13h ago
Yeah, like you put the person aside and all it really has is a nice theming engine and some extra bolt-ons. It's not exactly shit, I guess, but I agree, I just don't see what's exciting about it. Nothing they advertise is too difficult to achieve with an afternoon of playing with Claude Code on stock Arch, honestly. Which is kinda ironic given the agentic angle. Honestly, the same criticisms apply to my own OS, part of why I haven't publicly released it yet.

u/clduab11 14h ago
Also someone give me $23 million, thanks.
This is what most people are mad about. No one will ever convince me Reddit didn't add more value to Omarchy by the rampant teeth-gnashing that's been here for weeks, ESPECIALLY this sub.
Also, people need to get out in the world instead of armchair slacktivism. DHH is HARDLY alone in his viewpoints, and instead of voting locally and doing the hard grunt work of change... you now have the AfD party resurgent in Germany. Go to the eastern European bloc and start talking to some of those Germans about the Romani populace. There are people who literally spit on you and cause violence toward you if you're empathetic in any way.
But noooooo let's target the guy making lots of money from riced-out dotfiles and because he hurt people's feels at work because he said "Keep work about work" to a bunch of soft pearl-clutchers.
Anyway, there's ways to make change, and what you're doing is exactly it. Keep ahead of the distro, offer new ideas...make your own rice, market it as you see fit. That's what FOSS is all about. Good on you for digging in and making it your own and taking the control into YOUR hands.

Citation needed.

What is the actual license, and is it incompatible with the four essential freedoms of Free Software?

"The FOSS ideology" is nothing but the aforementioned four freedoms.

u/MouseJiggler 20h ago
First of all, the FOSS community is indeed full of crazy clowns that are hell bent on bringing their neo-identitarian politics into a space that is first and foremost about code.
Second - what is this "traditional linux institution"? What does it say and where on the website does it say that? The only "Linux institution" I can think of is the Linux Foundation, and wait until you hear about who its members are...

Can you please link to where you see Omacom as being against FOSS? You haven't sourced it and I read Stop Omarchy website and you haven't sourced it there either
You mentioned that they have public statements. I can't find these either
-5
u/sebastian_crimson 17h ago
Yeah, it's funny isn't it? The Omarchy website says the exact opposite to what they're claiming, yet still they persist with the imaginary scenario they've invented.
1
u/Much-Soup 16h ago
Here's my issue, I installed Omarchy on my lil 99 buck asus laptop I throw into my bag and use for all sorts of stuff. I like it (sorry).
But jeeeeeesus I don't support any of the ideologies or companies that are getting involved. I know its a circlejerk subreddit, but if I wanted a similar experience, without the bloat or fascism, what would you recommend?
I attempted a CachyOS install with hyprlnd, but it failed multiple attempts, I even tried a diff Cachy iso without any luck. I'm newish to linux, but not incapable. The multiple issues getting CachyOS up and going got me to just reinstall Oma for another week to have a working comp.
5
u/Faye_pearl 16h ago
It depends what you're looking for, EndeavourOS is the obvious if you're looking for an easy Arch based distro as it's mainly just a GUI installer version of arch, with basic things pre-installed that you would probably want.
Besides that of course just normal Arch is there, using "archinstall" makes it a pretty painless install, and of course comes with the benefit/negative of having almost no bloat.
I've used EndeavourOS before and then moved on to daily base Arch so can vouch for both. From what I've heard CachyOS can cause some problems because of the changes they do in the name of optimisation, so yeah, maybe give another a shot :)
2
u/Much-Soup 16h ago
Heck yeah, appreciate the info, I've got a project or two this weekend it seems
2
u/Faye_pearl 16h ago
No worries :) have fun :) if you just want a working computer I'd start with EndeavourOS and just mess around with it, that way you're still working with Arch and learning it, without having to install literally everything yourself.
And lastly just because some people can be a bit elitist, you don't have to end up on base Arch, find what you like and what works for you :)
2
u/Ok_Grapefruit6661 F.S.F agent 13h ago
There is danky linux. Since you are new, you can install arch with archinstall so its easy and then use any dotfile you like, see them on r/unixporn and if you get stuck, you can ask on sub or maybe ai cuz AI for knowledge is good and there many wiki too.
1
u/Much-Soup 13h ago
Oh this from the jump is similar to what I want visually, very cool, appreciate the suggestion!
2
u/Mr_Flippers 7h ago
This was exactly my thoughts, people are going to omarchy because it looks cool and they dont know how to "make their own distro in a week"; they want to install something and it be cool and ready to go then and there, with customisation being a bit of fiddling around in a gui settings app for half an hour/a quick trip to wallhaven. Arch has an intimidating reputation for a hobby that's already intimidating to people who've lived a life of windows/mac making things easy and automatic

From the Omarchy website:
'The Perfect Computer may start as omakase, but it's ultimately yours. Fully and completely. No tollbooths, no gatekeepers, no platforms that can change the terms on you. Just free and open code that you can turn into whatever you desire.'
The code is all on Github under the MIT licence. The whole philosophy of the project is to have the code available so you can use agents to change it in any way you want.
But somehow a lot of you seem convinced that imaginary AI Nazi's are coming for your safe space.

In the video he says he doesn't care about politics, he just wants to build great computers. He's not going to do unrelated "land acknowledgements" before doing anything technical - just the tech. No matter what your politics are (can be woke as heck), you're welcome in his organisation and only judged based on the quality of your work. His language is offensive, but what he says is reasonable. Linux and FOSS is indeed ideologically poisoned and not about the best solutions for humanity and greatest tech, but too much about politics, code is conduct, etc.

The irony. The audacity. Claiming FOSS ideals, but then trying to stop people just being free and doing their own thing.
No matter what you think about Omarchy technologically or politically. This is just pathetic.
Suck it up. Linux is for everyone, including for people with views you personally don't agree with. The stop Omarchy website is ridiculous. Constructing a nerdy Omarchy doctrine that says stuff like "great tools are beautiful, get those corner radii right, make it art" or "it's your machine, free and open code that you can turn into whatever you desire" to be a fascist creed is mentally disturbed.

It costs nothing to spew from an AI prompt, esp. with all that funding.
Others are facing burnout issues
-3
u/damanamathos 18h ago
I'm talking about everything he contributed to open source before AI became a thing. Ruby on Rails, Hotwire and Stimulus, Fizzy, Kamal, and even Omarchy launched before he became an AI believer. Just giving and giving and giving.
1
u/BeginningEcho4983 15h ago
Ruby on rails before AI? Omarchy before AI?
By the same person who claimed something along the lines of "manual coding is for losers"?
1
u/damanamathos 15h ago
I know it's shocking but some people update their views as the world changed. The real turning point in AI coding was November 2025 with the launch of Opus 4.5, but there have been significant advancements since then, including in the past few weeks. Some people are just too asleep to notice.
Ruby on Rails launched in 2004.

u/Nice-Rest-8267 12h ago
The actual software remains open source no doubt, but when has omacom claimed to be against FOSS? Mind sharing? Or, are we seeing "Commercial organizations funding and supporting you" as "You're against FOSS"?

I'm not an omacom fan or something, but I think we're spreading too much hate over something entirely unrelated at this point.
