Calling the Lion King a banger though? I mean, the soundtrack was pretty great but some of that gameplay... rough.

It was really fun.. until it wasn't. But we all rented it at Blockbuster for a weekend

Yeah, Lion King is definitely the outlier there. It’s mostly famous for having an insanely difficult second stage that most people never passed.

I love that many of these games are still speedrun and played at events. Super Metroid alone is an undebatable masterpiece and that was only one game that year

I haven't checked but given the number of top-notch games, a list like that should be possible for every year during the SNES era

Get Lion King outta there!! So many better choices in 94: Illusion of Gaia, Earthworm Jim, Mortal Kombat 2, Demon’s Crest, X-men mutant apocalypse, that Ken Griffey Jr baseball game, Breath of Fire!

Still have tons of game magazines lying around from 94. A truly exciting time to be a gamer with the transition to 32 bit all over and the best SNES year since 1994. Since Nintendo made themselves look uncool after the Mortal Kombat de-blooding thing in 1993 it was a wonderful comeback to behold

1994 was a crazy year across the board. On top of a great year for SNES, in film we got: Pulp Fiction, Forest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, True Lies, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, and more. In music we got: Superunknown, Dookie, Live Through This, Vitalogy, The Blue Album, Jar of Flies, Illmatic, Ready to Die, Nirvana Unplugged, The Division Bell, I’ll Communication, Purple, Mellow Gold, and more. 1994 was truly a masterpiece.
