Discussion It's Here, And It's Beautiful.

Post image

Finally got my physical cartridge of Super Metroid: Subversion in the mail from OCDreproductions yesterday, and it plays like a charm (SNES circled for ease of finding on my where's-waldo-ass shelf below the TV).

Edit: As a clarification for those thinking I'm playing on the floor or standing, I just didn't get my couch in the bottom of the frame, since I didn't have socks or shoes on, and I don't necessarily want to foot reveal to a SNES subreddit.

Edit 2: Why am I genuinely getting so much hate for having a SNES hooked up to a flat-screen TV 3 ft off the ground, vro? Lemme enjoy Super Metroid: Subversion in peace, please. 🙏

I know, right? I also have my Switch 2 dock down there, it just isn't docked atm, as well as two Wiis, neither hooked up, a Wii U, and a NES, also not hooked up. Also have a red GBA SP (idr the official color name), a NSMB2 Gold Edition 3DS XL, and a Switch and Switch OLED (the OLED is my dad's). We've only got one Microsoft console (Xbox One X), and one Sony console (PS2), so we're quite the Nintendo family lmao.

As an arachnophobe, nah man, unfinished ceilings freak me out.

We've lowk had the basement finished minus the drop ceiling for like, over a year now, but so many other family-related issues and expenses have come up, that we haven't had time to finish it.

Also, putting electronics in a room that's below ground and known to be moist seems like an odd choice! Even for a finished basement, it's only a matter of time before it eventually has water in it.

Came here to say the same thing

Not really. Especially if you have a couch or chair that reclines.

Putting it on the ceiling also isn't too high if you just lie on the floor.

Well now you're just being ridiculous.

Dude, the TV is like a foot from the ceiling. It is way too high. It would still be too high if it was just sitting on top of that stand.

Dude, it looks like it’s a 7-8 foot ceiling its fine I know Redditors love to look down on their phones all Day but sometimes it’s nice to just recline and look slightly up

I’m guessing that’s a 55 inch tv and those cabinets are about 6 ft

Okay ghetto math shows the tv is about 6 Nintendo switch 2 docking stations wide which is 7.9 inches per Nintendo switch 2 docking station so that is 47.4 inches wide for the tv which is extremely close to a 55 inch tv width of 47.9

Considering the funko pop box is about 6 inches and op could stack two of them and probably squeeze a third that means the top od the self is 18 inches from the ceiling

The cabinet (assuming it’s a double stack) is one 55”tv plus .8 Nintendo docking station high so that’s roughly 66 inches so that’s a ceiling of roughly 7 ft… which seems a bit low but not impossible lol

Op verified tv is only 3 feet off the ground suck it

If you want to recline and look up you'd need to put the TV on a tilt so it's not distorted.

I mean no not really it doesn’t make that big of a difference lol especially if you are far enough back

Yeah, this site has been getting way worse with the hivemind opinions as fact on stupid stuff like this. Let the redditor enjoy their Super Nintendo, ya know? Not like they can lower the TV that much anyway with all the consoles stacked underneath. Might be all the room they have.

Legitimately been becoming a problem with the hating, that and a now-deleted comment of someone hating on the composite on a flat-screen, like brochacho, this is the only TV in my house with a composite channel. 🙏

Really glad you are enjoying and playing the game OP.

I have not really hooked up my older consoles in forever since we got rid of our CRT.

Those things are the best way to play these games but they also take a ton of space.

I am not used to playing games on the floor anymore either.

They take up as much space as the tv in the picture

Absolutely true. Played Super Metroid for the first time a while ago, and my first ROM hack was Super Metroid: Phazon. Then I moved onto Ascent, and then Subversion. I almost beat Subversion on an HTML website port, but decided to get it on actual hardware lol.

Just measured, it's a short-ass basement, and the TV's only like 3-ish feet off the ground, so really not that bad.

2

u/Penguinkeith 1d ago

Yeah you are good in my book OP ignore the haters.

Thanks, gang. Made another edit to the post just to clarify I'm not trying to get hated on for playing a SNES on a flat-screen 3 ft off the ground. 🙏
