I am talking about games that had mixed reviewed, obviously flawed games, had janky aspects and overall the game would be mid or barely pass as mid, yet you actually enjoyed playing them.
Mine would be:
No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise:
The game had awful FPS, over the top bike and protaginist, all enemies being the same, same scream when they die and the same damn music each level... Yet I enjoyed playing it and finishing tons of enemies by slashing one enemy only felt satisfying, the bosses were interesting and none felt repetitive either...
The world felt so lifeless, it would have been better if it was just navigating a menu to choose main mission or side missions.
Second and most recent, Captain America:
Another game with awful FPS, stiff movement, enemies feel like spaghetti with their ragdoll, they tried to copy Arkham Asylum but failed so bad, the combat isn't even close, it lacks satisfaction factor when punching enemies and pulling combos...
I enjoyed reflecting bullets mechanic, playing this game reminded me of how games were like back on PS2 days, upgrade systen was sooo barebone, you get like 3 actual upgrades by unlocking new moves which you will never use and stick with R1+square for crippling strike... And you get the "yea maybe your shield will now bounce just a bit more, lmao"
It screams PS2 movie tie game, just a shameless promo for the movie, it is like when very old people try so hard to be cool and appeal to the younger generation, hence the blatant copying of Arkham..
it really seems like it would have been a great game if it was released in that time. Wasn't too enjoyable but it had its ehhh, okayish experience with nothing special, crippling strikes was fun, reflecting bullets right in time was also fun mechanic despite how simple it was. Thankfully the game was short and doable for how average it is.
