Announcement Official /r/beer FAQ - Please Check Here Before Posting
THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A BEER FAQ. IT IS ADDRESSING A FEW FREQUENTLY BROUGHT UP TOPICS ON /R/BEER.
Hi there,
There has been some need for announcements on a few different commonly posted topics. Since we are limited to two stickied posts, I'm going to use this one as a hub for these issues. I will be adding to this post as needed, but here's a /r/Beer FAQ to cover these post types.
If you notice people posting these topics, please be polite. Feel free to link to this post or use the provided links in a response.
This is not an invitation to harass anyone for posting a repeated topic. Reddit does not do a good job with presenting subreddit announcements, rules, sidebar info, etc. If posts annoy you and you don't think they belong, please consider downvoting, using a report, sending us a modmail message, hiding the post or simply moving on with your day. I highly suggest using the "don't show me submissions after I've downvoted them" option in old.reddit preferences (this may be broken in the app/resdesign website, but it should be fixed eventually and appear in those preferences as well).
- How do I ask /r/beer for a beer suggestion?
- Where are you? What's your general location? In order to suggest a beer that you should buy, we have to know what beers are available for you to buy.
- What do you already drink and like or dislike? What kinds of flavors are you looking for?
- What's your budget?
- Where are you? What's your general location? In order to suggest a beer that you should buy, we have to know what beers are available for you to buy.
- Is this beer safe to drink? Has it gone bad from age or storage conditions?
- Generally speaking, beer does not go bad in a way that will make it dangerous to drink. This assumes that the beer is stored in a sealed container. It may taste bad, though
- Am I drinking too much? Am I having an allergic reaction to beer or is it otherwise making me sick in some way?
- This is covered by the /r/Beer rules (some exceptions may be allowed for more casual or general questions):
Medical questions will be limited. /r/Beer is the wrong forum for serious medical questions, particularly where there's potential for harm to come as a result of the discussion. Please consult a medical professional for any questions about your own health, not an online beer discussion board.
- Is Sam Adams Utopias worth the price?
- That's ultimately up to you, but please look through the many past posts on the topic.
I'm trying to hit the more pressing topics first, but I'll look for some good links for other topics ("how do I figure out what kind of beers I like?", "what are the best budget beers?", etc.).
Everyone is welcome to join the official /r/Beer Discord server if you'd like to discuss anything here or just hang out and chat.
Cheers.
Edit: I'm locking this to comments because I don't want to have the post turn into a place where people ask these questions. However, feel free to post about any topics or send us suggestions for topics to be added via modmail or Discord chat.
Also, I may use the second announcement slot for a specific post on something like old beer questions, but I'd prefer to keep it open for the weekly No Stupid Questions posts (and possibly others; still working on redoing the scheduled posts and making some better topics).

blue moon mango wheat
I'm not HUGE into beer but I quite enjoy blue moons mango wheat. Any other beers I should try based on that? doesn't have to be the EXACT same flavor profile or anything just looking for any suggestions from people who also enjoy it.

Discussion Proclamation Brewing in RI - seeking quotes
Hi all - I'm a journalist working on a story about the opening of Proclamation Brewing (formerly Proclamation Ale in Warwick, Rhode Island.) If you're from the state, you likely know about the current mess going on with the brewery versus the beer community, which is a very rare occurrence. If you're an industry professional, and you are open to talking on the record about this situation, send me a message. 🍻 Happy to take anonymous statements, but I will need your name and brewery association to verify your identity.

Where to go?
I made a post a while ago (month or so) about a beer trip I plan on doing to Belgium next year for 10 days or so. I've been second guessing this since, is this the best move for my first large solo beer trip? For me, it's between Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium. I decided Belgium as it seemed easier to navigate given the distance between the cities than Germany. But what do you guys think? The places I would like to tick off in Belgium,I would require to rent a car and drive. I'm starting to think about focusing on a specific area of Belgium or Germany, or spending the 10 days or so going all over Czech Republic? Sorry, a bit of a ramble just for advice if any of you had similar thoughts and what you decided upon. Thank you for reading.

West Coast IPAs
I get burned out from citrusy, fruity, hazy IPAs and love a piney west coast IPA. I’ve had it before, but I just had a Pliny the Elder from Russian River. It’s the perfect example of a well balanced, piney, smooth IPA. Any other examples y’all can think of throughout the United States?
¿Question? On The Hunt For Sweet Beer!
Hello everyone, I'm new to the community! I have a big sweet tooth and I've recently gotten into exploring the world of beer! I went to my local Oktoberfest this past weekend and had a mug of the Golden Road Mango Cart ale and really enjoyed it! I tried a handful of other beers, Left Hand Milk Stout, Breckenridge Brewery Palisade Peach, Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout, they all kind of disappointed me or were more bitter on the back end than I was hoping 😭
But I'm not quitting yet! I'm on the quest to find a variety of lighter, sweeter beers I might enjoy. It seems like fruitier is the way to go for me but I'm open to all options and suggestions ☺️ I'm curious and open to trying! Thanks y'all 🍻

¿Question? What's the best tasting beer for people who don't like beer?
As title, I actually work in beer distribution! ...But I just can't get over the taste! Too earthy or too bitter for me.
A fruit beer like Lindemanns Framboise is great, but that's because it tastes like fruit punch. I've had a duchesse de bourgogne before and that was nice for my palette.
Any ideas?
Edit: thanks for all the suggestions! I'll start my list!

30 packs in Florida
I find 30 packs all the time around Jacksonville when traveling to visit family. No 30 packs around Tampa. Prices are cheaper for the 30 packs than the 24 packs also. I stock up and bring them back south, but always has been a mystery to me.

Skunked Spaten
I love Spaten Optimator but most of the time I get a slight skunk taste. I understand with the green bottles coming from germany this is common. I wish I could try it on the spot fresh

anybody tried n.o.w.t brewing co alcohol free pilsner? and how does it compare to athletic brewing?
im doing sober october this year, for my sins, and to raise money for a dementia charity, but i know its going to be difficult without a cold friday substitute.
i know that athletic brewing (https://athleticbrewing.com/products/athletic-brewing-noble-pils) or days (https://daysbrewing.com/) are always considered the best, but i was searching on google and across a post that said n.o.w.t is better (https://you-well.co.uk/the-best-non-alcoholic-alcohol-free-beer-you-can-buy-in-the-uk/).
it looks like a new ish brand, not cheap but not expensive, so i wondered if anybody has tried it,is it worth a shot?
thanks

Augustiner skunky?
Is this beer typically skunky? Seemed like a very expensive beer for it to just taste like Heineken.
I’m huge beer fan and have about nine different beers stockpiled right now for our own Oktoberfest.

Why do 8% twisted teas and 10% caymanjacks not get me nearly as buzzed or drunk as a 9.5% IPA?
I can drink two of the twisted teas or cayman jacks and still not get nearly as buzzed as I do off one 9% ipa(voodoo ranger to be exact)

Discussion Best beer under 4%abv?
I drink too much beer so lately I've been experimenting with very low alcohol beers to keep myself from going off the deep end. I start with one tall real beer then switch to the weak stuff. It's been great in terms of avoiding hangovers, only problem is there are very few options when it comes to low alcohol beers. Right now I'm drinking miller extra lite (2.8%... tastes like water and isnt sold everywhere). I've heard bud light platinum is low but I haven't tried it. Heineken light is probably the best tasting option I've tried (around 3%). Not sure if I'm overlooking something better.
