Having watched the OoT remake trailer, I couldn’t help but give the original a go. Crazy that this is an N64 game that did work that nothing of today could ever think about doing.

Though I’d like to know what about the original almost made you end your run for good? I’ll go first: Water Temple. Everything else was lwk easy.

P.S. this is actually my first time completing the game. I started and restarted enough times, that I felt overwhelmed about getting stuck and just braved through (with a guide or two).

Officially hit 219 with this four pack. On the home stretch! I have a few decently priced games to get but also a lot of sports games still pending so it’s within reach!

I got DKR back in 1997, and even back then, I was able to finish everything except I never unlocked TT. Then, a couple years ago, I replayed it for the first time and once again, got everything except for unlocking TT. I tried but after grinding for quite a while and still not beating the time for the first track, I gave up.

Well, two days ago, I decided to try again. I learned something very interesting. It's really not that hard. You're fooled into thinking it will be a long and hard grind because two of the first four tracks are very challenging. A lot of the tracks, however, are extremely easy. In fact, pretty much every hovercraft and airplane course are very easy. I never knew this because I never let myself get past those first couple tracks. I certainly wouldn't say it's trivial but it's not as hard as I thought it would be. The car races are, by far, the most difficult. Overall, roughly four of them are very hard but a lot of them are extremely easy and for the last 29 years, I did not know that.

Anyway, goal achieved.

I want to re-shell a N64 controller but I can't find a place online where they sell shells for them for a shell-swap.

does anyone have recommendations?

Always dreamed of getting a n64 when it first came out but couldn't ever afford it. Finally got a good paying job where I can afford one now, and I wanna get some games like Majoras mask (always wanted to play it because of the ben drowned creepy pasta) and mario 64.

What are some other games I should try out?

edit : im kind of surprised no one has mentioned pokemon stadium, is that game not worth checking out? Someone mentioned pokemon snap and I thought that game was always considered one of the worst pokemon games ever made.

i bought this module like 10 years ago on ebay.
i never questioned the stickers, but now i wonder if they are official or what they mean.

the stickers show a globe and say "original" and "security" from what i could see.

what are these 2 stickers?

anyone know? did the ebay seller just slab them on too make it look more official?

While all I did was switch out the cartridge trays to make my console region-free, this was the first mod I’ve ever done to a console! I am pretty stoked!

Finally got the production boards in for my N64 power brick USB-C project. I’m getting the install documentation finished up and doing some final testing now.

The idea is USB-C for people who don’t want to modify the console itself, while still keeping the original N64 look with the tumor on the back

I also got some of my replacement cartridge PCBs in at the same time, so I threw a picture of those in too.

Had an N64 as a kid, but sadly had to give it away for a reason I don't remember. But I've finally gotten one back!

I got the JQ6500 mp3 module like the video said, but it doesn't play when powered on. The tutorial says to connect K1 to SGND but hardwiring it doesn't seem to work. It only works when K1 is connected to SGND after booting.

I needed something small as a birthday present for my kids to get me, and frankly it’s pretty awesome.

For context, I love collecting N64 and I’m going to a convention where Chris Sutherland and Grant Kirkhope (worked for Rare and on games like Donkey Kong 64, banjo kazooie, golden eye) will be. I want them to sign one of my copies of donkey Kong 64. But I feel embarrassed cause I haven’t had the chance to play the game yet. I just don’t want to miss out on this chance though.

I recently bought an N64 with an expansion pack that had a BUNCH of problems. It runs wonderful now though, i just wished i had a single place to find a lot of the information i needed.

Video freezing with sound still going - for me swapping the thermal pads in the n64 did it

Graphic glitches, crash afterwards/ strong sound distortion, crash afterwards/ flickering, crash afterwards - for a lot of people cleaning the contacts on the expansion pack helped, for me swapping the thermal pad on the expansion pack completely fixed it

Random crashes with the led still on (no video or sound just instant black) - putting something small under the powerbrick so its slightly pushed up and cant move at all

Honorable mention: if the color red is really smeared/ ghosting you are probably playing a game on the wrong region console (for example NTSC game on PAL console)

Edit: i forgot to mention: playing conkers bad fur day on a flashvard with the expansion pack also caused freezing with aufio still playing, switching to a regular jumper pack fixed it
