I modded my Wii U back in 2017/2018, I tried launching some games (Pikmin 3, Captain Toad, Super Metroid) and they show the 106-0103 system memory error, while others (Pushmo World, Metroid Fusion, Earthbound) work. These games were all from my old account which I removed before modding, I’m using a different account now. All my disc based games work except for Super Smash Bros which shows the system memory error when booting.

I’m on 5.5.6 and I have to use the browser exploit to launch Mocha CFW when I want to use homebrew apps. There’s also a NAND Dumper app on the page after launching the browser exploit.

What can I do before my Wii U is completely fried?

After troubleshooting two separate nights , I still can’t get into the minute menu. I have updated all my files trying to get into it, and this is still the current result. When pressing power a few times to get into it on boot, I get no signal. Also attempting to boot it from the recovery menu sends me to the main menu. Here’s a video of it kicking me back to the main menu, showing my issue, can anyone help me figure this out?

I'm volunteer at an non profit arcade with a huge console space.

So we have this wiiu kiosk wich was kinda weird to use because it had these yellow "wings" for wiimotes (picture 3 and 4). These made it kinda awkward to offer some pro controllers to play since you had no real spot to place them.

So I designed some flat "wings" without wiimote intends and glued some controller holders on top.

No worries. No original parts got damaged and won't get thrown out.

I want to mod my Wii U. Aside from getting games from retro consoles on it, I want to get a bunch of Wii U games on it, considering I only have 2 and there's like way more I never got the chance to get back in the day. I found out that the Wii U has 25 GB system memory so that's probably not going to be enough. I've heard that people use external hard drives or USB drives for more games but I'm not sure where to look or what's best for the console. However, I would need options that are as cheap as possible, as I'm not very financially stable.

Any advice or shopping options, preferably Amazon but I'm open minded, would be very helpful right now.

Looking for help. I’ve tried two different external drives. A Maxone and Seagate both 1tb. I tried just the Y cable first. No love. I tried a powered usb hub. No love. I bought it already modded with a 500 gb Maxine external, I wanted a second drive for more options.

Not trying to connect them both at the same time. They show up fine on a PC.

Wii U does not auto recognize them, I tried format in settings, just spins. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My Wii U refuses to read my Just Dance 4 (image one) and Just Dance 2018 (image 2) CDs. Neither of these disks are scratched, and the Wii U can read other games like Zumba and splatoon just fine.

Just Dance 2018 does have minor scuff marks (image 3) around the edges that I cant remove my wiping, even with water and soap. I'm worried that might be the explanation for 2018 not working, but Just Dance 4 is majorly unscathed and has the same issue.

A few days ago, I posted about the rough shape this refurbished Wii U arrived in. Here is a full update on the restoration process:

-The rust & USB situation

Cracked it open and yeah, pure moisture damage. The rear shield and the back USB ports looked like they'd spent months in a flooded basement—straight-up crusty, yellowed corrosion everywhere.

I spent a good while scrubbing down the board with high-proof IPA and a soft brush, praying I wouldn't snap any tiny SMD components off. After testing the traces, the verdict came in: rear data lines are completely dead. But the 5V power rail somehow survived! So I went with a slightly janky but effective workaround: drawing power from the rear port with a USB Y-cable, while plugging the main data end into the front USB for my external hard drive. Works like a charm.

-Thermal paste

The factory paste on the Espresso/Latte chip was basically bone-dry cement. Scraped and cleaned it down to bare silicon with IPA, laid down fresh paste, and completely cleared out the fan assembly and heatsink fins, which were packed with gross, damp dust bunnies.

-The real boss fight: That damn smell

Honestly, the rust wasn't even the hardest part—it's the smell. The second this thing warms up, it kicks out this foul, musty old-basement funk that fills the entire room.

I’ve thrown literally everything at it:

Scrubbed the bare shell with heavy-duty degreaser and disinfectant.

Multiple IPA wipe-downs on every square inch of the board and metal plates.

Left pieces out in the sun for UV exposure and fresh airflow.

Stored it in a bin packed with activated charcoal and silica gel packs.

It’s definitely better than day one, but the moment that exhaust fan pushes warm air, you still catch a faint whiff of that mildew funk. If anyone has a magic trick to permanently pull that stink out of old console plastics and components, please save my nose and let me know.

Software side: Aroma up and running

Wiped the SD card to start clean. Got Aroma set up as the default autoboot environment, dropped on the essentials, and loaded up a few titles. Temps are great, it runs super quiet, and zero freezing so far.

Considering how beat up this board looked, I’m hyped it’s fully playable again.

Any pro-tips on totally killing off that lingering exhaust smell? Also, drop your favorite local co-op Wii U recommendations so I can finally break this thing in!

Hi! I’m going to be employed soon (sigh) so it’s time to finally finish all my old Wii U games! However I have two problems:

1. My game pad won’t charge, I replaced the old battery and still nothing.

2. Quite a few disks won’t read despite being in great condition such as splatoon 1 and smash bros ultimate

I’m from the uk and not a lot of local tech stores have a clue. if anyone has any ideas or tips?

I had a thought the other day of "what if GTA 5 had released on the Wii U alongside the 7th Generation consoles? So I decided to create some mockups for a GTA 5 Wii U cover and a deluxe set box.

I'm talking about games that are only on the Wii U, never ported to Switch 1 or 2.
So stuff like Mario Kart 8 obviously doesn't count since it has a Switch rerelease. Mainly just asking as I'm building out my Wii U and Switch collection and wanna know what ones are only on the Wii U (i don't trust Google AI overview for a good answer)

I recently bought a used Wii U without CFW. System Settings and Parental Controls both crash with error 160-2215 or 160-0103, while games on disks, Internet Browser and Mii Maker work normally.

Rebooting the console lets me continue using it again, but System Settings still crashes with the same error every time I try to open it. And the console has never been connected to my Wi-Fi, so I can't currently use browser-based diagnostic tools.

If low-level access such as ISFShax is needed, I’m willing to consider it. But again: no internet connection is possible. But I’m pretty new to Wii U topic and honestly don't know where to start with.

I’ve been working on a project to stream (in)directly to the Wii U Gamepad.

The idea is inspired by Chocolate: instead of making Windows, macOS, and Linux deal directly with the GamePad’s weird Wi-Fi setup, a separate cheap USB dongle handles all of the Wii U-specific networking.

The host computer captures the desktop, encodes it, and sends it over a normal network connection.

The basic setup looks like this:

The best part? The dongle is a repurposed CarPlay Dongle that can be bought from Amazon, eBay or AliExpress for less than $10 Dlls

These dongle have all the hardware required: WiFi, High Speed USB and Linux.

The long-term goal is basically:

- Flash a cheap CarPlay Dongle
- Connect it to your PC.
- Launch the host application.
- Use the Wii U GamePad as a wireless display and controller.

It’s still very alpha, but the core streaming path is already working: desktop video can be captured, transmitted, and displayed on the gamepad.

The biggest issue right now is video encoding.
Software H.264 encoding limits the image quality and latency, and it also requires a recent CPU to encode in realtime.

The project builds heavily on libdrc and its reverse engineering of the Wii U GamePad protocol. That work provides a lot of the foundation for communicating with the GamePad and dealing with its networking requirements.

I’m finishing documentation and building instructions. Hopefully a public release of the source code will be available in early October.

And as a disclosure to the community: I’ve also used AI to help with some parts of the x264 encoding pipeline and minor UI work.

Should i get the 8gb version? (No risk with the hynix chip fail)

Or the 32gb version? (Does have the risk of having a hynix chip)

I will use a 128gb sd card and a 256gb usb so i am leaning towards the 8gb version.

It’s already released on other consoles and pc.

Is this still possible to do? I’m now older and can afford the additional maps but ik Nintendo it shut down.
